  1. Mike, I just sucessfully pinged all of the other devices on the network from my laptop. I did notice something that seems a bit strange. When I log into my router, the dhcp client list shows the isy at a local address of 192.168.2.6 even though I assigned it a static address of 192.168.2.101. When I ping the 101 address, the request times out 90% of the time. However I tried to ping the listed dhcp address 192.168.2.6 and the destination host is unreachable. On my desktop, the local address I use is the static assigned address of 192.168.2.101 I am not really sure whats going on here, is it something I could have messed up or this this one of those weird network quirks? Thanks again for your time and efforts, Matt
  2. Network connection is at full strength running @ 54 Mbts. Now and at most times the laptop is within 15 ft of the router. I can ping -t the router itself with no failed attempts. it averages about 5 pings with 1ms then one ping between 3ms and 100ms. The ISY is plugged directly in the router and has been assigned a static address. The router firmware is up to date The laptops wireless card has the current drivers and I can not find a firmware update availible. The routers channel was set to automatic but I now have changed it to 11 with no luck. I 'think' that the settings on the laptop and desktop are 100% identical after doing a side by side comparison I AM STUMPED! I am by no means a network expert, however I can normally hack through it an solve my network problems. This problem has me completely baffled.
  3. This question is directed at the 'network expert' Mike B, but anyones input would be appreciated. I have the following problem. In my house I have 2 computers (laptop and desktop), both connected wirelessly and running Vista (32) with similar, if not identical network settings. The desktop connects wirelessly through a Belking wireless N+ router to the isy both locally and remotely with no known problems. The laptop however, does not. It will connect remotely, but not locally. When I ping the isy, it either fails 100% or fails 3 of the 4 tries (sucessful try is at random). If I go to 'My Network' and look of the 'My Lighting' icon it is not there, however all of the other icons seen on my desktop computer are visible. If I try to log on from an IE window, the page can not be located. If I connect the laptop with a network cable, it will then works locally. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Matt
  4. The problem that I am now having is that I can't turn my lights off. The EVENING RTN folder worked great until I changed my PRGM - EVENING folder programs to check to see if the light was already above the 25% level. Doing this is what now keeps me from turning the lights off. The PRGM - EVENING folder is active from sunset until it is turned of by the PRGM - EVENING OFF program. For that reason when for example the 'Breezeway LT" is at 25% and then it is switched OFF, the BREEZEWAY program notices the light become < 25% and then turns it ON to the EVENING level of 25%. What I really needed was more of a one shot check of the lights while activating the evening lights so that we did not dim any lights, we only raised the the associated evening lights that were not on. If anyone has some suggestions of how to do this while maitaining my RETURN feature, I would greatly appreciate it, for it seems like a simple task that I am severly struggling to figure out. Thanks in advance, Matt PS... How do I copy and past my code into this forum from the isy console, so I don't have to retype all of my programs into each message
  5. Then at midnight I have a program shut of the lights as follows PRGM - EVENING OFF (program) If time is 12:11:00AM Then set scene 'My Lighting; Off To further complicate this I have set up a program that brings all lights in my evening scene (actually a program) back to the scene brightness of 25% rather than OFF when the OFF button of a controller is pressed. To better clarify, the evening scene has the kitchen lights at 25%. I go in for a late night snack and tap the button which will turn the light to 100% in 4.5 seconds. When I am finished in the kitchen I tap the light OFF. Instead of turning off it returns to the scenes 25%. A second tap will turn it the rest of the way OFF. Here is an example of this programing: EVENING LT RETURN (folder) From sunset To 12:10am (next day) Then Allow programs in this folder to run BREEZWAY RTN (program) If control 'BREEZWAY LT' is switched ON and status of BREEZEWAY LT' is > 26% Then set 'BREEZWAY LT' 25% LIVING RM RTN (program) If control 'LIVING RM LT' is switched ON and status of 'LIVING RM LT' is > 26% Then set 'LIVING RM LT' 25%
  6. I have the following problem. I set up a scene the turns the lights to 25% at sunset. We soon found out that if we had the lights at 100% before sunset that they would dim to 25% when the scene initiated. Our goal was really only to have any light below 25% raise to 25% and the lights above 25% to remain where they were. Below is a shortened (not all devices are included) version of the programs I wrote to accomidate this. PRGM - EVENING (folder) If time is sunset Then allow programs in this folder to run BREEZWAY (program) If status of 'BREEZWAY LT' is < 25% Then set 'BREEZWAY LT' 25% LIVING RM (program) If status of 'LIVING RM LT' is < 25% Then set 'LIVING RM LT' 25%
  7. Sorry, the first post got messed up. I deleted it and had to post it in 3 seperate pieces for some odd reason. PLEASE read on.
  8. Michel, Under the 'My Lighting' I have my lighting switches, however appliancelincs that controll other items also reside in this folder. The particular case I am looking to solve is in a security situation. I would like to be able to turn the lights on and off instantly while in the bedroom. In the bedroom we have a very large waterfall controlled by an appliancelinc. In a security situation, I do not want the waterfall to turn on due to its noise. Is it possible to put my appliancelincs in a seperate folder other than the 'My Lighting' that will keep them from responding to ALL on/off commands? I seem to remember the All On/Off bottons on the controllincs only turned on lighting but I am not sure of this. Thanks for all of your help, Matt
  9. Is there any negatives to creating a scene using links from each of your controllers to the responders (fast way) and then also having a program that launches the scene when it sees the controller button has been pressed? I have some scenes that have been less reliable than I would like. I thought this may be a viable solution. Any Suggestions?? PS..Is there any ISY command for All ON/OFF. I currently have a scene which does this, however this is the scene that gives me the most problems due to the overwhelming network traffic it requires (or at least that is my guess to the reason)
  10. Rand, Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are two problems with just using the faston command. 1) The faston from 40% to 100% would elimate the ambiance of the ramp rates that I enjoy oh so much. And 2) Pressing the On button (top button) to get the lights to dim (go down) to 40%, is not intuative to all users. I would ultimately like to have a system capable of being used by someone who never used it before. I think what I am ultimately trying to do is to put a pause point in the ON/ OFF cycle of the light. For my purposes there are 3 steps to each light. OFF, 40%, & ON. I am going to try to program it so pressing the top button of the SL advances up the sequence, while a press of the bottom button steps down one level. They should all occur at the same ramp rate. Also if a button is double pressed, the FastON or FastOFF will occur. Using this approach will allow me to set a different number of steps at different times throughout the day. In my case I need 3 steps from dusk till 1am and 2 steps the other times. Another way that I thought of doing this was by creating a program that remembered the previous state of each device. That way if a scene has the light set at a certain level, call it 70%, and a SL top button (ON) is pressed, the program notes the 70% and then continues to advance the light to 100% on. Later when the off button is pressed, the program is checked for previous state and then lowered to that level. As of now I feel that this may be very complicated to program, as remembering the previous state of all devices may be overhelming to keep track of. Any further comments, concerns, or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. NOTE: For those of you wondering exactly what I am trying to accomplish, At night I prefer that a majoritly of the house be lit around 25%. We normally keep the house at a glowing level. A simple scene does this at dusk. The problem is when I go to the kitchen for a snack and briefly turn the lights on. When I leave the kitchen and tap the off, my kitchen is now totally dark. The old lady uses the bathroom and when she done its now dark. And so on. Eventually the whole house is dark and my covented glow is gone. Someone suggested that I use motion sensors, but I would rather that lights don't contiously change as I move around the house. I perfer using a switch in most cases. Sorry for writing a novel, Matt
  11. Good morning to all. This will be my first post to the forum. I have just made the switch from the boring HouseLinc2, to an ISY-26. I have done my fourm searches with no avail, so before I just jump into the programing I figured I would check to see if others have already done what I need. I decided to upgrade my system to operate with an ISY for one main reason. I would like my Insteon devices to return to a certain status at different times of the day. An example is a lamplinc I have. During the hours of 1am and 6pm, when I use my Switchlinc to turn it off, I want it to turn off. But at 6pm I have a scene called Evening activate, which turns the Lamplinc to 40%. I want this to be the default power setting for the lamplinc between the hours of 6:01pm until 12:59am. In other words, the Evening scene turns the lamp on to 40%. I then need full brightness to read a book at 7pm. When I am finished with the book an hour later, I no longer need the full brightness so I push the off buttom on the Switchlinc. I want the Lamplinc to dim to its 'default evening level' of 40% rather than turning all the way off. I also want this to operate in the reverse. I decide to watch a movie and I would rather that the room be dark. The Lamplinc is at currently at 40%. I press the SL and the LL turns off. The movie ends. I press the SL on and during the hours of 6:01pm and 12:59am it turns on to 40%. At all other times of the day it would turn on to full brightness. I basically am looking to create default states, based on time of day, for each of my devices. I figure it to be fairly straight foreward, but I would rather get some ideas / examples from the forum before I dive in. With that said please respond with your ideas on what you have already done, any ideas, and also some possible pitfalls I should be looking out for. Please also let me know if I am barking up the wrong tree. If there is a better way to do this, or if it will be impossible to progam, a heads up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks is advance, Matt
