  1. Thanks, that solved the "not found" error. Regarding noise, the PLM plugs into an outlet, and there is also a noise filter plugged into that same outlet. A power strip is plugged into that noise filter and the computer is plugged into that power strip. That is what I mean by the computer being closer. I have not had a chance to unplug it and see if things go back to normal.
  2. When I start the ISY interface in Windows from start.jnlp, I get a message "Error: Not Found" but it appears directly over the list showing my ISY. If I click OK, I get a waiting spinner and then the "Not Found" message appears again. If I don't wait for that, I can select my ISY and connect (LAN) as normal, and log in as normal, but then I get a huge pile of "Failed Communicating With" warnings for various devices. I'm still able to control some devices although it seems a bit erratic. My guess is that the Insteon communication issues are because of a computer that moved closer to the ISY (although it's behind a filter), but that doesn't explain the "Error: Not Found" issue. Any suggestions? I'm currently on 5.3.4 (firmware and UI).

    INSTEON Chime

I have a couple that I plugged into ApplianceLincs. When the ApplianceLinc turns on, the chime sounds. It doesn't sound again until the ApplianceLinc turns off and then on again. That keeps the functionality but gives the reliability of Insteon. You can ignore the X10 address entirely this way.
  4. If you're feeling brave, or are comfortable messing around with Insteon... The command that needs to be sent is pretty simple. command1 = 0x20, command2 = 0x08 (0x09 will turn the LEDs back on.) If you have any means to send custom commands to the FanLinc (e.g. a SmartLinc) you could do it yourself. Note that if the FanLinc is V.41 or higher it will need to be linked as a responder to the device sending the command if it isn't already. If you don't have any means to send custom commands, but you have a Windows computer with a serial port, you could in principle turn off the ISY, unplug the PLM from the ISY and plug it into the computer instead, and use free software that will let you send a command. E.g. even http://busyrat.com/plmtest/ will let you do it (not sure if it will work with Windows 7 though). If you use that, make sure it's got the right Com port to connect to the PLM, then enter 02 62 XX YY ZZ 0F 20 08 where XX YY ZZ should be replaced with the Insteon address of your FanLinc. That should do it. Then plug the PLM back into the ISY and turn it back on. Whistle innocently and pretend nothing happened.
  5. I have a lamp in my living room which is currently plugged into a LampLinc DB. It has a switch on the cord which we don't use. Instead it is controlled from a KPL (which also controls four other things) and a RemoteLinc (likewise). I can imagine using this instead of the LampLinc, since it would make the installation invisible (rather than having a module plugged into the wall). I could also imagine using one of these if I had a room where the main light wasn't bright enough and wanted to put in a secondary light (e.g. table or floor lamp) and have it controlled by the main light switch in the room. Or a basement fixture with a pull-cord (no switch) that I wanted to control with a wall switch (maybe even a RemoteLinc 2 in a wall mount) or triggerlinc or motion sensor. Or any light fixture where I was thinking of putting in an InLineLinc for whatever reason.
  6. In terms of links in the PLM database you need a link for each device to be controlled, and for each device to inform the PLM about its status. E.g. for a SwitchLinc you will typically need 2 links. Additionally, if a device appears in multiple scenes, it will need a link for each scene. So for a SwitchLinc that appears in 2 scenes, you actually need 3 links. One to tell the PLM if you press the paddle on the SwitchLinc, and two to control it. So these add up faster than you might expect.
  7. Please feel free. The hope is that it will be useful.
  8. Smarthome hasn't released the secret decoder ring but I've been making a reference list. http://www.madreporite.com/insteon/Inst ... e_list.htm You will notice it is not complete. It's all the information I've been able to cross-reference so far. More is always welcome. Also, you will notice that some devices (like KPL dimmers) come in multiple versions, and the correspondence between hardware revision (the label on the device) and the firmware (the number reported by ISY) is different for different versions. Still, if you are interested in knowing about the differences between the different versions, it may be helpful.
