Hello all,
I am in a pickle... It seems as I need to use a ver 4 version of the software so that my locks work properly. But I can only add my secondary controller successfully if I am on version 5. Allow me to explain.
Here is my equipment:
- isy994i with 500 series z-wave card (used at my primary controller)
- 2GIG GC3e Alarm Panel - (used as a secondary controller so that my zwave devices can be seen in Alarm.com)
- Yale B1L deadbolts (from my understanding, they are NOT zwave plus)
- Ecolink door/window sensors
So while the Yale locks have their own "auto relock" -- I wanted to take it a step further and make sure it only auto locks if the door is closed. So I added the door contact and created some programs in my ISY to check if the door is closed and then only then send the command to auto relock. I had this setup a few months ago and working PERFECTLY!
Since it was working, I had made some changes to my system. I replaced my alarm panel with a different GC3e (its the exact same model/version as the prior one). I also updated my ISY to 5.2.0 (it was on one of the version 4 firmware before). This forced me to relearn in all my devices. Once I had my locks learned in and all the relevant items back to the way they were - I ran in to this issue:
When I lock/unlock the door, the status would not update on the device in the ISY. Only after I pressed "query" did the correct status show. This was the case no matter how I changed the lock's state (unlock/lock command from the ISY or manually turning the thumb turn).
I have done all kinds of research (mostly on this forum) and have come to the conclusion (confirmed via testing/troubleshooting) that it's because my locks are NOT ZWave Plus... and on version 5 on the ISY, it relies on Z-Wave Plus' "Explorer Frames" to update statuses of devices.... and since my locks are not Plus, they are having difficulty with updating their statuses.
So I downgraded my ISY to version 4.9.0... I then learned in my locks, conducted a "Heal Network", and the status was updating VERY quickly... almost as quick as I turned the thumb turn.... So I thought "Problem Solved!!" I will just keep my ISY on 4.9.0 and everything will be fine.
So now here is the pickle I am in:
For whatever reason, on a version 4 firmware, I can't get my GC3e alarm panel to learn in as a secondary controller.
When I had version 5.2.0 on the ISY -- I was able to learn in the GC3e as a secondary controller without issue. On the GC3e zwave settings, I would select the option to change it from Primary Controller to Secondary.... I then select "Add device" on the ISY, and poof -- it works perfectly. The ISY adds the GC3e as a device, and on the GC3e it changes to a secondary controller.
HOWEVER - now on version 4 on my ISY - this process fails. It starts to add (event viewer says "retrieving info 2" then says "retrieving info 4" then says "Adding Z-Wave devices stopped" (which I didn't press a thing - so somehow it stops on its own)
On version 5 firmware, it says retrieving info 2, then 4, and I wanna say a couple others... then it finishes its adding process.
So here are my questions:
- Any tricks or tips on how I can get my GC3e panel to add on version 4.9.0 without it stopping the add process it's self?
- Is there a way I can install a version 5 firmware, add my GC3e, back it up somehow, then install version 4.9.0 and then restore my GC3e device?
(If so, how do I downgrade successfully from a version 5 to version 4.9.0? Each time I got a blinking red error LED and had to factory reset to get it to work)
- Is there a way (or program) or even another device that I can use on version 5 that will poll for the lock status all the time?
I have done tons of resets, power cycles, and the whole 9 yards with both my GC3e and ISY. My GC3e is on the latest firmware. If someone is very familiar with the GC3e/Alarm.com - I DO have access to the back end settings in Alarm.com as well as all the programming on the GC3e (so if there is something on there I can change, I have complete access).
Thanks in advance for your assistance and any tips you may have.
