  1. Thanks to you both for your preliminary thoughts. Mr. Bill - you helped me in the past so I really appreciate your support. I used the same laptop connected to the same network for the past year. Today I took a gamble and cleared my Java cache, including applications, I then loaded the Administrate Console using the following link: http://isy.universal-devices.com/994i/admin.jnlp I logged in and saw my devices, but still no programs or variables. I tried to restore my last saved recovery backup and it stopped after displaying the details in the attached file. It seems the backup could not remove / replace certain files. Thanks for any thoughts. Pete backup load error screens.docx
  2. I am an intermediate user of the UD ISY994i device and related programming, but I am a novice at how to mange the connection to the device. Recently I was using the UD Cloud access as normal with Insteon-UD994 v. 5.3.4 I made a minor modification to a program and it works as intended. I made a backup recovery file of the system when finished. I went to modify the program again and when logged in the system did not show any of my programs listed. I tried to recover the system by loading my recently saved backup, and things went south in a hurry. I received a message that the action will replace all settings in the ISY, reboot the ISY and so forth. Just what I wanted. BUT during that process I got an error message that certain files could not be removed and the reinstall failed. Now I cannot reach a log on prompt and can not reinstall the backup file. I CAN see my devices and programs on the internet portal, which of course has limited programming functionality. So I ask the expert community - is the path forward to remove all traces of the ISY on my PC running Windows 10 and then reinstall all system, clear the Java Cache, and load my backup files as originally planned? I searched this site, and various pdf documents including "User Guide For Universal Devices’ Administrative Console (ISY)" but I cannot find guidance on how to fully uninstall the Admin Console, refresh Java and start over. Recognizing my novice status, I may have missed this in the documents I studied! Thank you for your time and assistance
  3. This is a dated thread but I just received a Kidde relay/power supply module as recommended by MrBill https://www.amazon.com/Kidde-SM120X-Interconnect-Accessories-Module/dp/B00HQNPOHI/ This is straight forward electrical connection to provide contact closure and/or a 5 volt output when triggered by an active detector in my 120v inter-connected smoke alarms. So as I proceed to the next step, can anyone confirm that the Insteon remote control low voltage controller is the best interface to connect to the ISY 994i, whereby I could trigger an email to be sent if this controller senses contact closure? I don't plan to have this trigger an alarm or other powered device as in principle the home alarms should be sounding when this device is triggered by a contact closure. My goal is to be informed of a fire while traveling by receiving a text or email (or both). Once set up, my next project is to learn how to trigger an email being sent by the ISY 994i... Seems more reliable that a smoke bridge. https://www.smarthome.com/products/i-o-linc-insteon-2450-low-voltage-contact-closure-interface-1-in-1-out Thanks!!
  4. Yes!!! I am squared away. Thanks to the help of the community and the result of a support ticket. It was easy - in hindsight. I guess that is often the case. This forum is greatly appreciated as I start my journey into the system.
  5. State / Integer - YES! Event Based Programming - Will investigate. If this is using state variables to trigger events then I am familiar. THX - I appreciate any expert guidance as I learn this system on my own.
  6. GREAT to know this trick. My prior owner got pretty sophisticated with variables and some are making the lights do very strange things. Thank you!
  7. Hello Community! I am working to understand a complex (~60 program) system that came with my home as purchased. The original owner set variables to run programs based on sunrise and sunset using about 10 variables. I am trying to find where variables are set and called so I can understand the logic and intent of the programs. Is there a way to search programs for the existence of variables so I can trace when and why they are set without manual searches? I can of course see when variables are changed in the variables window. Many thanks to those more experienced than I!
  8. Hello Community! I have been reading about smoke bridges as a Band-Aid for a smoke monitoring option. Seems they are not available and not really great technology anyway. Is there anything on the market these days to provide for smoke and fire monitoring?
  9. Thanks so much! I did see my typo regarding the file extension. I searched my drive to confirm there are not older start.jnlp files and then I saved and ran the one from the link you sent. I'll submit the ticket. I really appreciate your time and effort!
  10. Please disregard my last post about alexa vs the admin console. I can turn on lights now per my console, so I am back to the original issue - my programs will not run, probably due to the fact that I cannot update my UI to the same version as my 944 firmware......
  11. Java is up to date. Rebooted the 944 yesterday. I noticed that I can turn my lights on using alexa, but not by using the Admin Console. However, when Alexa turns on/off the lights, I can see in the console that they are on/off (hmmmmm). I just unplugged my 944 and my PLM (serial modem) then reset them. Now I am going through the Restore Modem (PLM) option to see if that helps. So, as I can see the lights are reported to be on when I turn them on manually or via Alexa. If I try to turn them on via the Admin Console, they show as if they are on in the interface but the lights are not on. That is why I tried to restore the PLM - but it did not help!
  12. Sorry for my typo above. Per the screen shot, I searched my drive for *.JNLP files and found none. Could I need a different start file when using a serial modem? I saw somewhere in my searching that that was a possible issue. Thx
  13. Thank you for all your help. I think I have a problem here... I will walk you through my entire process: I cleared the cache as shown (several times!) I then searched my entire drive for *.pnlp files and confirmed there were none as shown below: I then used your link to get the new start.pnlp file and clicked on that. I clicked on the newly placed ISY Launcher icon on my home screen and logged into my system but the Version of the UI is unchanged and does not match my Firmware. ANY help remains greatly appreciated!!!
  14. I also have a PLM Serial Modem #2413S. Some threads suggest I need to download a version with that in mind
