  1. BTW, does the XTB help the signal used by the ISY?
  2. As it turns out, the main panel is located in my equipment closet so installing a non-GFI compliant receptacle is not a problem. I may use your exact setup, it seems to offer the best chance of having a stable signal path. I wonder if Smarthome would ever consider making a 220v PLM as that would be a better product.
  3. I really didn't want to get into any heated discussions. I'm sure the PLM was designed to be as easy to retrofit as possible but the more I understand about how these things work, I wonder why there isn't a 220v version of the PLM which would (as I can tell) solve many issues. But getting back on track, I have plenty of panel space but my house has 4 panels (there is a main panel which feeds the other three) which is why I asked the question. I need as much free flow as possible. Does it make any difference if I run the PLM into the 220 bridge or just run it into the main panel?

    On timer?

So I don't need to program the actual switch? How does the ISY know that the switch was turned on? Or does the ISY get notified every time a switch's status is changed?

    On timer?

Is there a way to write a program that would detect when a switch is activated (the light turned on) and automatically turn it off in a designated amount of time? Like: If: Light A is On Then: Wait 15 minutes Set Light A Off
  6. I just ordered that. I assume I would only need one.
  7. Sorry if I'm asking really stupid questions but wouldn't manually changing the status of a device (by turning the light switch off for example) override the program?
  8. I read the wiki but that program is much more complicated than what I need. I just want the light to come on either at sunset OR if the sky gets dark. If I run two seperate programs to turn the light on, I would need to be sure to prevent any loops from forming and that can get tedious when dealing with more than 30 units (as mine will be when complete). I would rather keep the programming as simple as possible. What is the advantage to running a seperate Light Data program?
  9. Here is a program I wrote. What I want to have happen is for my Carriage Lights turn on when either it is sunset OR the Climate module has light=0 and then turn off at 9pm daily. Here is my script: If: -( l Time is Sunset l Or Climate Module Light is 0 -) And From 4:00:00PM To 9:00:00PM (same day) Then: Set 'Garage (Carriage Lights) Lights' On Else: Set 'Garage (Carriage Lights) Lights' Off Does that look right? Also, is there an easier way to show what I've programmed other than re-typing it? Thanks!
  10. I have a complicated home electrical setup. From the meter, my power runs into three seperate breaker boxes. The main house runs off of two of those boxes. I'm having an electrician give me a dedicated outlet that I will use to plug in my PLM. I figure to have the best chance of stability, I should run a 240 outlet first so I can plug in a coupler and then a 120 outlet to plug in the PLM. The 240 line can come from the common feed to the house. So the line will go: Main line>240 outlet>120 outlet Is this the best way to wire?
  11. I'm going to get a reputation here fast!!!! So this is what I've figured out. I caused a loop because of my "light=0" program that crashed the system. Once I removed that statement (and saved my changes!) and rebooted the system, it all came back! Except for one controller and I can figure that out later when I have more time. For now, I need to learn the programming syntax! My migration should be complete by the end of this weekend and I'm having an electrician clean up some wiring issues. Thanks for putting up with me while I'm a newbe!!!! Mitch
  12. Hi all! I am just starting my migration from x-10 to Insteon using the ISY 99i. Everything was going well until this morning. For no reason and suddenly, I cannot communicate with any of my devices. Last night, everything was fine. This morning, I keep getting error messages from the Admin console that it cannot communicate with any of my devices. I am running firmware 2.7.10 (which was working fine). The only changes I've made that I can think of was that I added the weather module and then I added a program that would turn on one of my outdoor lights when lighting was 0. I deleted the program this morning since I figured it wasn't written correctly (I had it programmed to turn on if light was 0 but a seperate program had the light turn off at 9:00 PM so I thought I created a loop which was crashing the system). I tried powering down the PLM and ISY. I also rebooted my router. Can anyone think of an issue that would be causing this? I'm in the testing phase so still am running x-10 but none of the modules cross platforms. I only have 8 devices in my Insteon system. This morning, I lost communication with EVERY device in the system! Thanks, Mitch
  13. You never explicitly confirm that your ISY is connected to a router (wired or wireless), which is what is actually connected to your DSL modem. Assuming this is the case, the ISY doesn't care about what the external dynamic address is from your ISP. So there's nothing the ISY needs to do when that IP address changes. Or is there some other situation you're describing? The ISY is connected to my DSL modem/router. I somehow assumed that the ISY needed to have the correct outside ip address updated but now I understand how it works. There's no problem, everything is working perfectly! Thanks!!!
  14. Thanks guys, I thought about it last night and realized that as long as the ISY automatically updates the ip address from my DSL provider, I'll be fine. I'm assuming the ISY regularly updates this info? Thanks!!!
  15. Hi!! First post! I searched the Wiki but couldn't find an answer. I need to change the ip address for internet access. I have DSL with dynamic ip so I signed up for a forwarding service to have a "fake" static ip. Is there a way to change the ip address the Universal Devices Administrative console uses? Right now, it just uses the ip address my DSL provider gives me. I want to use the ip address I set up with my forwarding service. Thanks!!!!
