  1. Clarified that, yes, the system has 2 PLMs. The one closest to the 994 is located on the other side of the wall where the backup battery is located. I have a serial PLM that I ordered some ago but I don't have the serial PLM kit. I've have to order.
  2. Thanks Brian. I didn't know this. I'll check.
  3. Many thanks for the info. I'll double check the PLM. Also, I bought a new PLM some time ago but have not installed it. Currently, I don't have that many scenes. I tried to delete the unused ones (I replaced many of the Insteon light switches when our home remodel was done) but the system bogged down when it attempted to update. I think this was due to a lack of communication with the battery powered sensors in the crawl space (I need to check/replace the batteries). I was informed that I could bypass the battery-powered sensors but I don't know how. I want to automate the pool pump & light and landscape lighting. Afterward I want to add the security system (ELK) then the surveillance system. Beyond that, I will wait to see what we need. Thanks Brian. I didn't know this. I'll check.
  4. Additional point re the planned eisy upgrade: the previous homeowner (who installed the 994) installed an Insteon EZ108SA I/O controller in the outside switchbox for the pool pump & light and landscape lighting. He also installed a PLM in the box as well. Since this is the core function that I want to maintain, does this not complicate the eisy upgrade? The PLM location is less than optimal since the unit is subjected to the vagaries of ambient temperature which necessitates rebooting the PLM fairly frequently (especially in the summer). If I move the PLM indoors (close to the eisy) then the CAT5 cable to the EZ108SA would be ~50 ft. I note in the PLM kit guide that the cable should be no longer than 10 ft. What should I do here?
  5. I'm a rookie at this so please be patient. Issue: I want to activate UD Mobile but my 994 has 4.9 firmware. How do I upgrade the latest? Bigger issue: I have an eisy that I want to upgrade to as soon as I figure out how to do it. Is my rationale correct re upgrading the 994 firmware first or is it unnecessary?
  6. Thx. I'll try again
  7. Good question. I noted this while reading the WIKI info. I have several battery operated devices (i.e., water sensors in the crawl space). I planned to address these after I installed the new PLM. I will look at the admin console for battery icon. Do you believe that this was the cause of the failure to update?

  9. The other day I attempted to replace a buggy PLM with a new device. Per the WIKI manual, I unplugged the 994, then connected the new PLM, then repowered the 994, then selected "restore PLM" in the admin console. The "system busy" box then displayed but progress stopped at ~25% (4 tries). l then tried "restore devices" but got nowhere. I ended up reinstalling a backup ISY file to restore the system back to where it was (I had deleted a number of unused nodes in an attempt to streamline the PLM search process). Any suggestions/comments on what the problem is? As you can tell, I'm a rookie at this.
  10. Many thanks for the additional comments/suggestions! I will follow up re PLM data and yes, Bob, I may be interested in your solution.
  11. Spoke with a rep at Compacta and she stated that they stopped selling the EZ108SA several years ago as part of a pivot away from residential home automation. She also said that the problem is probably the PLM since its shelf life is not that long especially with the additional stress of high temperatures.

  13. Many thanks to both for your informative responses. Actually, the company behind the product appears to be Compacta International, Ltd. based in San Juan Capistrano, CA. I left a message with tech support re the issue. Hopefully they can assist. 8 Output / 7 Input Insteon/X10 Controller (product description under "Quick Start Guide"). Kinda confusing who actually sells and supports the product. Good advice re the PLM. I will follow up on this. I actually replaced the power supply a few days ago as the first troubleshooting step. No issues found.
  14. I recently purchased a home in which the previous owner installed a smart home network managed with a 994i hub. I have an eisy that I plan to install but before I do, I need to troubleshoot an issue with an Insteon EZ108SA V2 #3011A I/O Controller that is installed in an outdoor box that houses the switches for the pool pump, pool light (underwater), front landscape lighting and back landscape lighting (around the pool). Currently, I have to reboot the circuit each morning in order for the pool pump and back lighting to turn on/off per the program in the 994i while the front lighting remains on 24/7 (should turn off each am). I have noted that the system alerts a "communication error" with the EZ108SA (I have rebooted the device multiple times). I would prefer upgrading to another device since I perceive that the Insteon is fried due to prolonged exposure to high summer heat. Can anyone advise me on how to resolve this? I want to ensure that the circuit is working well before I upgrade to the eisy.
