  1. I replaced a dead keypad link with the newer dual band 2334 6 button kpl. I am running the ISY-99i, Java 4.0.5 and Firmware v 3.3.10, ui 4.0.11. I have cleared the Java cache and having trouble seeing the kpl buttons when running the isy console. It sounds like this is a common problem. The isy installs the 2334 kpl but only displays it as a single button.
  2. Lee, All things considered, I will take your suggestion to just replace the switch. I did not have any luck with the "power cycle" tip. I pulled the set button out for 20 seconds, pushed it back in and saw no change. There may be more to the procedure to get it to work. I gave it one more try by deleting the swl from the console, factory resetting the swl and then manually adjusting the on-level at the switch (reducing the brightness to about 50%). One tap on the switch now goes to 50% bright. Double tap goes full bright. I then added the swl to the console with the "start linking" mode and chose the option to "add devices found in links and keep existing links" Now the admin console shows 50% level and the switch works correctly. Thanks for your help. I am glad for once that I can blame the device for the problem and not find it is something I screwed up. Bob
  3. Lee, Thanks, using WordPad makes it readable. To answer your questions: It is a SwitchLinc with the admin console showing 2476D V.27. The ISY is brand new and I got this info from the Admin console UD99 V.2.8.16. This Switchlinc is one of the first I bought about 2 years back. Just for fun, I ran the event log on another SwitchLinc (this switch works as I expected maintaining the brightness level set from the Admin console). I see something that looks like your example. The problem switchlinc has the line (about 5-6 down from the top with the "using engine version---" which I don't see at all in your example or my good switchlinc. 4. Lee, I am able to run the event log as you suggest and see the option to "save log to" which ends up as a .txt file. When I open the file with Notepad it is scrambled and hard to read. I have seen other posts where the actual event log screen is captured and pasted into the reply. I just don't know how to do this. Let me know what I am missing here and I will be glad to post the log. For what it is worth as I don't understand it at all, I do see this comment near the top of the event log. 5. Hello, I have one SWL (2476D-v3.2) controlling one light. From the Admin Console, the Light load follows the On Level slider (brightens and dims as expected). The Ramp rate slider does not, regardless of the slider position, the load goes on and off immediately (no time delay) when the ON or OFF button on the Admin console is selected (not the Fast On/Off) When I manually adjust the swl by slowly ramping up or down the light level, the Admin console follows and shows the Current State changing. When I tap the On paddle once, the light load in the room goes full bright, while the Admin console shows the Current State changing from OFF to what ever the slide "ON level" happens to be--example--the console is set to ON Level of 50%, the Current State goes to 50% but the actual light is full bright. When I double tap the SWL, the console correctly shows Current state to ON and the light is on at full bright. I have done the factory reset several times and removed and added the swl to the Admin console several times. To make sure I wasn't too confused. I tried the same tests on a different SWL and found the SWL to follow the console both in brightness and ramp rate controls. I am assuming I have a bad SWL but don't want to rule out a communication problem with the swl and the admin console. Suggestions?
  6. Michel, To answer your last question---the missing scenes and devices were added using the isy. I made the effort to "restore isy" and was successful in getting a much earlier saved version of an isy backup to load. When trying to load the latest backup (which should include the missing scenes and devices) I get a "socket time out" error and a "failed, reported written size is invalid" Question: 1. how can I tell which backup file is loaded? and 2. why can't I get to the admin console using your suggested http://abc.def.x.y/admin---again as stated in the earlier forum reply---I am finding a login window clearly marked with the JAVA logo prompting for name and pw---when entering admin, admin--I get error---application failed to run 3.When doing an isy backup, I get an error unable to read conf/22 a file shows in my directory but I assume it is corrupt RBC
  7. Michel, Thanks in advance for your help. Please look at my earlier Forum question dated Aug 16, 2011 about "ISY user interface--" I followed the suggestion and when using the abc.xxx.0.3 url still was unable to get the admin console to start. Background--for many months I have been using my main PC (hardwired to the network router) and was always successful getting to the admin console by typing url isy/admin, this would bring up the screen where I would need to enter the user name "admin" and the pw "admin" to get the console running. I would briefly see a small Java window open in the lower left corner of the screen and then end up at the admin console. I really can't recall the time line on when my log on problems started but---just recently I started using a second computer (old laptop connected wireless to the router) to do the isy programming as I was able to move it around the house when setting up the devices. My log on problems are most likely related to adding this computer?? as this is when I started seeing these log on problems. Switching between two computers causing the glitch is in the back of my mind. URL choices---I read one of the wiki suggestions on several ways to launch the admin console. Here is what happens currently. (laptop pc running windows xp pro) 1. when trying the url //isy/admin (which always worked before) I see a screen open showing Universal-Devices logo, upper left corner of the screen against an off-color, pinkish background, the Java window (lower left corner) runs for a few seconds and then another window opens clearly showing the Java logo and prompts for authentication, I enter the username "admin" and pw "admin", the Java window in the lower left corner comes up with an "error" and I am stuck. 2. when trying the url abc.xxx.0.3, I immediately get a window showing My Lighting with the tabs of Devices, Scenes, Programs, Admin Console. I select Admin Console and then am prompted for name and pw. when entering admin, admin the screen changes to the same as in #1 above--pinkish color, etc., The Java window runs for a few seconds (the graphic circles about), disappears and then in the same location (lower left corner)I get a screen showing "error" I can select the error screen to get details which takes me into Java world. 3. when trying http://www.universal-devices/99i---everything works, I see a white background screen with the Universal-Devices logo shown in blue, the Java window opens (lower left corner) spins about for a few seconds and then the screen goes to the light blue background admin conosle where I am prompted to logon with admin, admin. All works and I am able to see the My Lighting screen with all my devices. Conclusion---all of this baffles me as I have a weak background in url workings and what is going on behind the scenes. Where I am now---I use choice #3 above and see My Lighting with three scenes and devices that have been working, and continue to work just fine. These have been in place for months---way before any of this logon problem. I don't really know where the admin console lives, I assume it is on board the isy? or somehow part of Java? The new devices and scenes I recently added do not show in My Lighting---they disappeared or were lost somehow, somewhere. The new devices, when operated at the keypads still work correctly. Is there an easy way to get the actual devices to update the ISY? which would then show correctly in the admin console. OR can you just get me on the right track when logging on to avoid this mystery happening again---I could have simply gone back and started over, had everything working again in less time that it took to write all of this. I just really want to know what I did that messed this up in the first place.
  8. I recently created a scene using two keypad links and several switchlinks. The keypads worked correctly. The admin panel also worked correctly. I backed up the isy and shut down the computer. I am using your isy 26. Today when restarting the computer and opening the admin panel, I found the control of the devices to be messed up. The ramp rates and on levels were all scrambled. I tried several attempts to query the various devices hoping that things would reset with no luck. The actual keypads still work correctly, correct ramp rates and levels. I restarted the computer several times, cleared the java cache with no change. Now, finally upon one more restart, I find the scene to be missing completely from the admin panel as well as several of the buttons on one of the keypad links. I tried to run the backup isy but get to about 60% and find an error indicating socket time out and something about file size incorrect. My actual keypads still work correctly---lights come on with correct ramp rate, buttons on keypad links light---everything works. Is there anyway to get the working hardware (switch and keypad links) to update the isy? or should I just delete the devices on the admin panel, reset the devices and start over? I have several saved backup files in my isy26 folder, how can I tell which isy program is loaded in the admin panel?
  9. After typing isy/admin in my browser window, I get the white background My Lighting page, the Java icon starts running and up until a couple of days ago, I would see the blue background screen with the login prompt---typing admin, admin would start the user interface. Well now what I get (after letting Java load) is a Java Authentication required screen asking for the name and password to access /on isy/192.168.0.3 Know idea what has changed on my system. I did have the isy 26 disconnected from the network for a few days and after putting it back am seeing this problem I find that typing universal-devices.com/99i in my browser gets me to the blue screen and the admin-admin logon and does open the user interface where all seems to work as before.
  10. Looking for suggestions on how to best set up lighting for my kitchen. My devices include 5 switch links (remotely located in a closet in the garage) each controlling a separate lighting load in the kitchen. The kitchen has 3 keypads (each is a 6 button), 2 of the keypads do NOT control any loads, the third keypad does control a load (an exterior porch light). I am using the ISY 26 and am willing to update if it would make my life easier. I would like to switch on all the lights at once from any keypad (possibly at two different levels--button A goes full bright, button B goes 50%). I would also like to control the 5 lighting loads independently from each keypad and keep the buttons (led button light) updated. I would also anticipate setting up a couple of scenes such as "after dinner" and "TV watching" These scenes could be controlled using a fourth 6-button keypad located in the adjacent living room and combined with an overall "entertainment mood lighting" condition that would include other switchlinks found in the living room. If you are still with me, I understand there are many options that could be used. I have read through the support pages and the forum and feel overwhelmed with all the possibilities. I am willing to try most anything but just don't want to put hours into something and then realize I missed the boat. The button grouping, toggles, etc. are just starting to sink in but I need some help/suggestions/examples on where to start. Thanks.
  11. I just tried to add a keypadlinc (6 button) to my existing My Lighting tree. The ON button on this kpl is not connected to a load. I end up with the red exclamation point on the tree and an error stating something like no communication established. To go further I also tried adding another 6 button (this one does have a load connected) and end up with the same red exclamation point problem. So now I am guessing the problem has nothing to do with the no load switch but something else. Questions 1: Prior to starting the "start linking" I have pulled out the reset switch on the kpl to clear the switch, then after "start linking" pushed in the switch for several seconds until the button light blinks, when returning to the admin screen, I see the switch listed, I accept the default of removing existing links, finish, and then see the linking taking place. I end up with either the green icon showing which eventually switches to the red exclamation icon showing next to the -1 button on the tree for the kpl. Am I going at this correctly? Question 2: I normally control the isy with my main pc that is hardwired to the network. Today since I was hoping to add several kpls that are upstairs, I thought it would be easier to use my old laptop and wirelessly connect to the isy. The connection works and I see the admin console just fine. When I first tried to link the switches and had trouble (as described above) I started blaming the wireless router connection---now since I tried the switch linking with the hardwired computer downstairs and get the same results (described above) what I would like to know is "can I use the wireless laptop with the isy and expect good results?" Question 3: I really see the need to organize the My Lighting layout tree naming conventions, etc. Using folders looks to be part of the plan. Am I correct that the old ISY 26 (which I am using) is unable to handle this and if so would you suggest upgrading? Thanks
  12. Michel, As I recall, the lights that normally come on around dusk, were off after dark. In other words, it wasn't just a few minutes late but possibly 30-60 minutes late. I manually switched on the lights at the keypad and later turned them off the same way. After reconnecting the cable to the network the admin panel showed all was working correctly. I will continue watching the ISY in the present (no cable connected to the network) condition. If there is a brief power outage to the PLM and/or the ISY---will the ISY and PLM reset and continue to operate the Insteon system without error? (no cable connected to the network). Thanks for your continued support, RBC
  13. I have an ISY-26 controlling an Insteon home system. I use the ISY to turn on and off landscape lights at specified times each evening. The system has been working perfectly for many months up until a couple of nights ago when I noticed the lights had not turned on. When checking on the system, I noticed the ISY was blinking two red lights (Mem and Error) and also realized that the CAT5 cable from the ISY was no longer connected to my router (no idea of how long it had been disconnected). I reconnected the CAT5 cable, opened the Admin panel, found everything to be operating as usual and noticed the two red lights were now off. All is well, the past two nights the lights work correctly again. So today, our Charter cable went down for a short while and when resetting the cable modem and router I decided to disconnect the CAT5 cable going to the ISY. I see the two red lights flashing again but find the landscape lighting to work just fine. Finally my question---is it proper to allow the ISY to work independently from the PC connection? Just let the two lights flash and expect the ISY to handle the Insteon system. If there is a power outage to the house, will the ISY be able to reset on its own once the power is restored or is this possibly why I had the problem of losing control over my landscape lights? Thanks,
