Though X10 related some can be applied to Insteon also. Jeff has a great set of troubleshooting tutorials. A few of them show noise from things like a cheap cell phone charger and some CFL bulbs. You may find some information that is helpful.

I tried an o scope and as pointed out not much could be seen.  I have tried the circuit ELA posted. Using an ACT CP000 Isolating Phase Coupler. I used an X10 XPCP as ACT is out of business. The Insteon power line signal frequency is not that far away from X10. Both are tuned for. It worked fairly well with my low end scope. Have not tried the new one I now have.

Waoo!! Brian nice, are u a EE or is this strictly an avocation. I can tell you from experience trouble shooting communication issues like this can be a trying time. I do have professional horror stories. I see you are from east CT. I still have family in Shelton. I also as I write this have I hope that I found my problem. Its the switch. I set up some counters on the program execution and the sensor was communicating motion but the light switch is not turning on. So what i thought was a faulty sensor can be a faulty Switch.

  2. After much hacking at this thing to impractically determine its behavior I came up with a configuration and program so this thing works the way it should out of the box. I have to say this experience has soured me on Insteon.

I've had it in the garage now for almost 24hrs and it seems to be working. Once I went out there and i almost had to hope in front of the sensor before it turned on but it is cool in the garage. Its about 40 deg and the low limit of operation is 32 deg. I bought this new sensor because I felt the previous 2420 sensor Ive had for several years lost performance as it got colder and the off commands didn't always make it to the light switch. Does anyone have similar experience whit the 2844 or older 2420? The new one seems to be turning off the lights more reliably and the lights are staying on while i move about.

And its not just about he sensor. Previously I had the sensor control the lights, now the ISY is doing it. From an engineering stand point I've added another point of failure Just to do what the sensor should do and that is reset the countdown timer internally when new motion is sensed. TO improve reliability of turning off the lights I added a 2nd off command in the program to insure that they go off. I'm also going to power the unit from USB currently on battery and I like the performance. The one detail that was nice to see is that they acknowledge the sensor temp reading performs differently on battery and USB.  This along with improved communication  leads me to think sensor performance and OFF command transmittal's will be more reliable on USB power.

I'm also contemplating a second program to insure that the lights are off late at night. It used to be that the previous sensor did not always turn off the lights and they'd be on all night. just a simple thing to run at night. If the lights are on and the motion off for lets say 5 to 10 min the turn off the lights.

  3. Hay guy's my first post on this thread but I've been on a couple of others regarding the 2844. Seems there are quite a few of us that have struggled with the 2844 and lack of goo documentation.  I was wondering if anyone would like to collaborate on a real manual for this thing? topics would be configuring it in the ISY. Information about each of the parameters. And the quarks of the unit. like the difference between battery operation and USB. maybe a few program examples to help the uninitiated more easily use this thing in an ISY.

  4. Hi guy's Want to thank everyone who tried to and and posted here. I have solved my problem. Can't say exactly what was wrong but essentially something had become corrupted or maybe more appropriately miss configured at a level that was not directly user accessible. Could almost have thought it was a virus or malware but it was not. So here a a briefer synopsis.

I was able to run the the dash board but not the Admin console.

I could launch the ISY Finder (yes the newest version obtained form the support site) But it could not see the ISY.

The ISY was functioning and seemed to have nothing wrong with itself I had also performed a rest of the unit.

I had other software that was giving me issues. I.e. Scanner would scan the first Doc but bomb on the second. the only way to get it work again was to reboot the computer. But then again only scan the first Doc before stopping halfway through the first page of the second doc.

During the trouble shooting process of uninstalling and reinstalling software Windows or the installation software would sometimes respond with the access was denied to a folder because I did not have sufficient privileges even though I was logged in as administrator.

I had purchased a Ubiquity Access point to upgrade my house to a commercial level wireless network. Software installed OK but like the  controller software could not see the access point to configure it. My Router saw it and had assigned it an IP address, but my configuration software could not find it. This had a hint of the issue that i was experiencing with the Admin Console

THE SOLUTION TO ALL OF MY PROBLEMS: Repair windows using Microsoft Media Creation tool.

I used MMCT to create a bootable Windows10 USB stick. I did not boot form it but merely started the Setup.exe program right from windows explorer. Followed the prompts, when asked I chose to have the setup grab the latest updates and then let it do its thing. When the process informed me it would be awhile and probably would reboot several times I then went to bed. When I woke up this morning I logged in, was informed that some additional updates need to be installed and then WALHA ISY Finder worked and I'm able to launch the Admin Console, The ubiquity software and see the access point to configure it. My Epson Scanner software however is still having problems.

    Hope this helps someone

Well not so much that it was updated by the OS but was the PC on an older version of Windows? I was on Win7 and then updated to Win10. Its been over a year or so though. I am running Win10Pro v1803 build 17134.285

my system originally started as win7 oem version and then updated to 10 during the free upgrade period. I have since had to reinstall win10 using my old win7 license but that was well over a year ago.

  6. still need to come up with a solution for the isy-finder on my win10 desktop PC but as a temp workaround I installed the launcher on a MS surface Pro4. the Admin Console does not scale to the hi res of the Surface pro. I was able to increase the font size to 20 in the Admin-console. increase display scaling and reduced display resolution, it makes admin console marginally usable. I have a another java app on the surface and it too has a hard time scaling to the surfaces hi res display. Browsers and Windows office programs have no problem looking good and usable on the surface. Going to search the forum to find a more appropriate  topic to post under. Any guidance to the appropriate forum section would be appreciated.

  7. Can you please be more specific in your question as to "entered in your Router". Its not entered specifically but the range in which it sits is blocked out from DHCP if that is what your getting at. Beside I noted in the post above that on a win7 laptop I can access the console, so if the router was a problem it would be a problem for any system to access the isy. Why the interest in the router config?

  8. I have 3 reasons I'm sure of the IP address any one of which alone would give me 100% confidence. I assigned a static IP to it long ago. The ISY is on the Device list of my router with its IP. Entering the IP into a browser brings up the dashboard.

  9. Want to take a moment and thank you for your help. The problem is defiantly with my win10 system. Took an old laptop with win7 connected to the network wirelessly. Installed Java and ran the isy launcher from the support page and wallah Admin Console is up and running. configured a new device and a couple of scenes. Almost to the point of doing a fresh install of windows 10 with an enterprise license i acquired on my problem pc. but I have a good deal of software that I would need to reinstall and configure that the task would be an all day affair.

  10. Following your comment on the firewall being a potential problem I searched the wiki found the section on firewall configuration. noticed that ms Defender verbiage is coming soon. read about using HTTPS.  notice that the guidance says to log onto the isy? Question if you can log onto the ISY why do you need to worry about configuring Finder? But since I'm dead in the water I went ahead and tried to add https://192.168.1.95:8226 as a URL in ISY Finder After hitting enter the result form ISY Finder is "Not Found". Tried the same in the Firefox browser and the response "Cannot establish connection to server". My router does show the ISY as a connected device

  11. yes i had to change my router. what configuration setting is required on it? On my prevoius one I don't recall a special setting for the isy.

the only firewall I have is MS Defender. Is there an app that I have to make sure is allowed or setting I need to be sure is on or off?

  12. its been some time since I updated the firmware. the last I remember it was 4. something for the longest time. The last time I checked which was a few months it was 4. something and no new updates were available. I can run the dashboard and control devices and secens through my browser, its the admin console that I need to get to and program some new lighting i've installed in the basement I just finished.

  13. Yes. I've had the Icon on my desktop for years and has now stopped working. well the icon starts the finder its the finder that can't find the isy-994i. I tired several way and suggestions from the forums and form the wiki. I've even started the finder from a browser.

  14. Need a little help. Went to start the admin console today after not running it in a few weeks. The ISY finder failed to find my ISY-994i. I can ping the device and can bring up the /Web/udajax.htm… page, see my scenes and devices. The admin Console however fails to come when I click on the button. When I launch the ISY Finder it fails to find my ISY-994i. I have tried the following

    Updated Java.

Cleared the cache and temp files.

The //ISY.universal-devices.com along with the device ip address has been part of the Java Exception list for quite some time now so that does not seem to be the problem.

I’ve tried the ne Launcher and that results in more java errors than older java  Not sure what to try next.
