  1. I guess no one wants to talk to the mad wife because your going to get the 4th degree!
  2. Hello, You have two choices one is via the Admin Console: Configuration -> System -> System -> Reboot. This is a soft boot initiated by you from the console. Should you ever see odd behavior where a soft reboot does not cure what ails you a hard reboot can normally solve that. A hard reboot is simply you unplugging the ISY Series Controller from the main power outlet. Wait about ten seconds than reapply main power and let the controller go through its POST and settle down. Then, all should be good . . .
  3. You need only select the one node to complete this task. ========================= The highest calling in life is to serve ones country faithfully - Teach others what can be. Do what is right and not what is popular.
  4. Ha pending writes would definitely impact the system. As good practice reboot the controller to ensure its complete. ========================= The highest calling in life is to serve ones country faithfully - Teach others what can be. Do what is right and not what is popular.
  5. If you select any of the two options there is a pop up indicating 5.09 must be in place. Good times ahead thanks UDI! ========================= The highest calling in life is to serve ones country faithfully - Teach others what can be. Do what is right and not what is popular.
  6. No, but this process is extremely labor intensive and require battery operated devices to be updated later also. Disabling programs takes mere seconds and the cause and effect is seen immediately. You could go through many hours of a restore only to find the same end result.
  7. Hello Joe, First thing to do is disable all programs to see if updating performance increases. If so you need to determine which programs are impacting the system a simple add one at a time will offer this insight. If disabling all programs doesn't increase the read / write to hardware you could perform a restore PLM. Doing so will delete any errant links in the system. ========================= The highest calling in life is to serve ones country faithfully - Teach others what can be. 8. Does the tag not have a method to insert wires like the Insteon open close sensor? I gather not otherwise you would have left the unit affixed outside and simply wired a simple contact magnet. I also understood this device can adjust the power output have you increased the levels to see? ========================= The highest calling in life is to serve ones country faithfully - Teach others what can be. 9. Michael, Is this the Pro version or the standard version of the tag? I understood one or two members were seeing much longer distances and had no issues with placing the same into metal enclosed appliances like fridge / freezers? What is the distance of the mail box from the tag manager?
  10. Kevin, As always, I thank you for continuing to push the envelope in this fantastic project. I hope to do the very same once I find the time to do so - Along with a deployment that is a little more stream lined.
  11. Some of the sites may be obfuscating some information but it doesn't make it *Fake News*. There are insurance companies who state in writing that for a claim to be considered a *break in / burglary* it must happen via the front door. @Elvis: You can only lead the horse to water - you can't make it drink! When presented with empirical facts like remote control of ones GDO people will do what they like regardless of the consequences. Those with sound and reasonable minds can only offer the information for those to read, consume, and follow through. When people take the time like you to offer reference material or a counter to the opinion of others - You will just be labeled. I go into each forum thread that interest me - If I have views and personal information which I feel can benefit the collective I try to do so. You then have people who truly believe ganging up on another person is going to really silence the facts. LOL . . . It's comical to watch some of this unfold along with comments which offer no helpful information, facts, besides wasting bandwidth. Reading inbound PM's about how I have provided factual information along with how to do better while also offering examples to hit the point across is encouraging. As some of the long time members have stated to me *You can only help those who want to help themselves*. This is why I am here and this is why I take the time to relay the same. While there are others who bring absolutely nothing to the conversation besides trying to incite animosity and suppress common sense. I wish some of these PM's could be shared here because it would relay the total disgust for the childish behavior and antics of a few select few LOL. On a completely different tangent someone noted I have some kind of number with regards to *Likes*. I've never paid much attention to this number but they say its driven by good information being shared whether it be solutions, helpful advice, to offering counter views that help expand a topic. I guess 423 likes must indicate in a random way I, You, and others are offering positive contributions regardless of what others may say. I would encourage you to stand fast and offer information when and where and ignore the TROLLS, and those banding together that truly offer nothing. LOL - Let the games begin . . .
  12. I suspect given the general nature of the inquiry the reply you obtained would be the case. If however, you told her you linked a un-certified voice activated device to the alarm system to unlock the door and disarm the system. There is a higher likely hood her reply would have been *Let me get back to you* then followed up with *No*. The insurance company provided you a reduced rate because you showed them you have taken some common sense approaches with respect to securing your home from *Risks*. Why would you expect the insurance company to pay out anything when someone has increased their risk?!? Does that not counter the whole point of them offering you a reduced insurance rate as stated above? The market is filled with good and bad insurance companies and hope very much the one you have is fair, professional, and stand at the ready should anything ever happen. No one including the insurance company should have to take a financial loss due to someones direct negligence. As you noted early on life is about risks and people must decide how much of that risk they are willing to take. I on the other hand know first hand all the risks that surround me each and every day. Thus, I don't allow *Fad Like Things* to have direct command and control of my systems, ever. Conversations like these are easy to point out why there are minimum standards and at the same time why X isn't done over Y. There have been no less than twenty people messaging me about this topic and wanted clarification as to my views and other aspects of security. One member asked what is wrong with an alarm system from Walmart? Another asked how come using a wireless systems derates the entire unit? What's wrong in connecting some random guys software connected to a RPi? All three of these questions are not only valid but high lights the disparity of knowledge, standards, and offering true security when speaking about the electronic aspects. It's easy for me any everyone else to thumb their noses at some random person buying a noise maker from Walmart. Why?? It's easy to do the very same with a person who had some *Stick & Run* alarm company install an entire wireless system. Why? It's also profoundly and easy to make fun of anyone connecting a RPi to the very same. Why? People often struggle to understand when I say *Anyone Serious* and what I mean. In general terms anyone who is serious would have taken the time to ask questions, done some research, engaged professionals in that field, etc. That is the first part of being serious in this industry. Next, if someone was serious they would hard wire every sensor, contact, in the system. That same *Serious Person* would have also installed EOL resistors to ensure any line fault was detected. My confidence is you have asked, researched, and engaged many professionals in your install. You have more than likely hardwired all the sensors and contacts in your system and installed the correct value EOL resistor to appropriate zones etc. Why?? Because you are more serious than the next guy who said a Walmart alarm is just as good? Better yet how about we step it up a notch and go buy the latest fad product called the Canary?!? What about any of those stupid cone shaped turds that sit on your counter and call it good? They are all so called burglary UL / cUL certified and must meet the same high standards as the rest, right?? Not in a million years would I ever think you would suggest, buy, or install a Walmart alarm system. Why?? Because at some point you had bare minimum to higher expectations than the rest. It didn't make you better than the next guy just that you were more serious about protecting your life, family, and property. The problem lies in the fact people are losing sight of the basics just like the Walmart guy, Amazon Guy, RPi Guy, Canary Guy. As you and many others know I am not hear to sell, shill, or promote any product when it comes to security. It's safe to say not one single person will find a thread in this forum where I say go buy X. That really is a personal choice like underwear - but people should really sit back and ask themselves. Why?? At the end of the day I and many others will have to agree to disagree . . . All I know is the five guys reading over my shoulders right now are just shaking their head in disbelief people believe its OK to let Alexa lock, unlock, arm, disarm, their systems.
  13. Maybe I just use my security alarm system as it's intended. My system is always in a armed state which requires me to do things differently than what is common to most. This same methodology / ideology is used in all level 4 and above facilities. Think military, government, biohazard containment. Scenarios: When I am about to go to bed or know I'm staying in I can press one single button to (affirm) and arm the home in stay mode. I don't use the above method but it's an option - what I do use and each member of the family badges in, enters their unique user, and password to do so. This is done so the logs reflect accurately who did so. Because this is a compliance and policy requirement for my system and cUL listing. If by chance I or anyone else forgets the system will check all zones, faults, or active bypass in progress. If all is well the system will (affirm) and auto arm itself, notify, and ring back the same the system always knows who is physically home and will react as stated below. A auto arm, stay, force, instant arm / bypass log is appended and generated to the system which I at a future date must explain in a paper log & electronic log. If and when I or anyone else leaves the home we merely badge out and place 1 of 10 fingers to a finger print scanner to disarm and unsecure the home. You will note I said disarm - not arm the home this is counter to what 99.99999% of what consumer grade alarms do. You will also note there is a minimum of two form authentication of what you know, carry, and have. This only pertains to leaving not entering the home. Again, assuming each of us forget to disarm the home the system will auto arm, secure the home, log the event, ring back to ensure the TOC / CS has received the same. As noted up above another log will be auto generated which again needs to be explained and documented for review and submission. Besides the self auditing listed up top there is nothing complex, hard, or laborious to do. As stated early on people can do what ever they like it really matters not to me. The reality is none of the people who speak about using software / hardware that isn't certified for security use are indeed serious about true security. Because if they were, they would already know their security rating is 1 or below! When people say they intend to use something like Alexa to do the very same it's plainly obvious security is not the main driver convenience is. These are the same people who truly believe and use IFTTT to connect and manage their security alarm system the same way. [emoji849] Yet we also have people gluing a RPi to alarm panels thinking this is real bitchen! [emoji53] Yeah, security was really top of mind when they decided to do that! Why isn't the banks, police, hospital, business, military, government, fire department, insert name here doing the very same? Clearly all of the above industries must be missing the obvious?!? [emoji848][emoji38] Let's all speak plainly and call a spade a spade. This is all about doing as little as possible not about true security. Who knew the pet rock, cabbage patch kids had so much power over the General public! [emoji848] ========================= The highest calling in life is to serve ones country faithfully - Teach others what can be. Do what is right and not what is popular.
  14. Yes, its about risks . . . People are increasing their level of risk(s) by integrating said lock, alarm, to a voice activated device with out thinking. None of these people have stop to consider what is going to happen when they need to cash in that home owners insurance policy. Because people are hell bent in abusing something the Insurance industry as a whole are going to react to denying said claims. Because they created the opportunity and risk to circumvent what normally would be a secure device. Its not my place to yell from the top of the virtual mountain and say *Don't do it*. What I offer is real world feedback about the consequences of doing so . . . People are free to do what ever they like as they have done so for hundreds of years before me. I was just sit on the side lines eating my pop corn shaking my head and probably laugh and cry at the same time when I read about some poor schmuck who lost everything because he lacked the common sense to do the right thing. In this case, the lack there of . . . Back on topic: If Amazon offered a voice recognition pattern update similar to face, retina, finger print. This would change the whole game and ball of wax. At this juncture none of this is being offered or certified to do so. Ultimately lots of this is a moot point because 99.99999999999999999999% of the people having an alarm system don't ever change the password anyways. Never mind doing the other 99999999999999999999999 things that are standard industry best practices . . .
  15. You make lots of valid points - But, as you are more than aware by reading my past replies I am a strong believer in *Force Protection*. I don't rely on any electronics to offer me the physical barriers which directly translates to: Time . . . Time, is the only thing that will offer a person the means to react and do X vs Y. I also don't connect my primary security alarm system to allow remote access, ever. As stated many times here and other forums - unlike many others I do not allow un-certified UL / cUL appliances to connect to my infrastructure, ever. I can't directly speak to (IF) a person should use an ELK system because I don't use or own one. What I can tell you from personal experience and having hands on knowledge of many security related fields is. People are less concerned with real security than they are with personal convenience & integration. Generally speaking these are the very same people who believe its a good idea to tie a lock set to Alexa. You and everybody else agree its not a good idea to have Alexa have voice command and control of the disarm function, why? Why would it be a bad idea to connect Alexa the same to a lock set, to unlock? The answers are clear as to WHY. As you noted others have tried and failed to integrate *Things* with a high probability of failure. Why? Because these same people have not taken the time to think about the outcome. These same people will come up with a thousands reasons as to what they did to avoid some kind of failure or compromise, why? Because as delusional as some of them are they innately know its wrong to do so - but ignore common sense anyways. I shouldn't have to tell anyone that driving is a privilege and requires the driver to be a active participant in DRIVING! The very fact we are at a point where we must converse as to the WHY is not only comical but absurd in the Nth degree. The guy who died in that Tesla vehicle is just one perfect example of how out of touch humans are today. People believe its OK to install Google devices into their homes and ignoring basic privacy, security, and legal ramifications of such. Because humans these days are lazy, stupid, and inept - They only care about enriching themselves and damn anyone else. The fact we are having a civil discussion about the merits of integrating a unsecure device to vocally control something that is supposed to offer you protection is breath taking. The Echo not only knows your IP address, knows exactly what you said via the V-card. But stores that same data in the cloud which if people don't think will be hacked one day are drinking too much Kool Air. The reality is something that could be used to be a powerful tool is becoming and (IS) being used as a toy. I can tell you and everyone else reading this reply I have never helped anyone in the security industry install a toy. I have on the other hand helped people, companies, and industries access their risks, threats, and offer force protection elements to stave off or reduce those threats. A security alarm system was not even on the top five things that needed to be done when solutions were offered. Why?? Because no alarm system will save you from a 85 lbs dripping wet boy who kicked down your fragile door jamb. This same 85 lbs dripping wet boy is more than happy to sit around waiting and listening to people talk out loud to disarm their *Things* At some point people just need to back up, smell the coffee, and have a good head shake.
  16. I can only speak for myself but truly believe if you and others just step back and think about the consequences. Lots of this will become self evident as to the risks vs rewards in doing so. As an aside, my replies are not specifically targeted toward you or anyone in this forum. Its a global view and feedback offered to the public at large . . . I can tell you from personal first hand experience that seeing a child crushed by a automated garage door opener, limbs being cut off because a table saw was connected to a timed program, and homes burned down to the ground because of an errant table cloth touching a hot element. None of these examples are make belief - they are recorded in history of others not understanding their actions.
  17. I'm sorry your missing the point - before any sort of voice integration was ever invented the system allowed a person to integrate their home automation with their ELK security panel. Tens of thousands of people see great value in this as it offers unique features not found in competing products. Now, fast forward to the 2000's voice control is available to the masses. How did Amazon Echo (Alexa) ever make the connection to your security alarm system?!? Magic? Did you not have to sit down and setup, configure, and allow said voice appliance to connect to your system?!? I am sure it wasn't magic was it?
  18. I'm not sure how you lay blame to something *YOU DECIDED* to do?!?! Its like blaming GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, because some fool got drunk and thought it was a good idea to get behind a wheel drunk. The fault lies with the automotive industry because they provided you the means to do so?!? A gun maker is responsible for every fool who ever picked up a gun and killed someone? Everything is a tool until its not . . .
  19. LOL . . . Elvis, what did Spideys *Uncle Ben* say to Peter Parker? As I have stated many times just because you can do a thing - doesn't mean you should. This is why the whole home automation industry is quickly going down the toilet because consumers in general have no clue. The rarest element in the multiverse is common sense . . . I know its all the rage to say *Look what I can do* but the sad reality is none of these people have taken one second to understand the consequences of doing so. The very fact people come on to these forums and others bragging they have actually linked their security alarm system to un-certified appliance should give you pause. The sad reality is until someone dies, injured, or what is more likely gets hit in the pocket book. These people in general will continue on this kind of silliness which truly defies logic! Then we have some random one time poster claiming an ELK system is being installed into a Fortune 500 company?!?! Your freaking dreaming I say . . . Voice control is turning into the same delusional toy as the self driving car. One only needs to Google the poor fool who ended up as a smear on the ground when he was run over by a huge semi trailer! Instead of *DRIVING* he was fooling around like an idiot and thus died! The reality is twenty something million fools bought the pet rock back in the day. So, that must directly mean it was the right thing to do?!?! I'm just going to close my eyes and count to ten and wait for the fall out - because its coming.
  20. From a technical stand point no . . . From a real world use and application stand point more than likely. You have to keep in mind from a true home automation perspective power line / RF communications is consumer solution. It is not in any way considered a prosumer / commercial solution for those serious about control and management. Serious is defined as 100% communications, reliability, and using low / high voltage hard line. Every home has some kind of noise maker / signal sucker in the home that's just the natural evils of electronics, motors, etc. Generally speaking almost everything in your home ages and when it does often times injected noise is the end result. If you haven't placed the most common appliances on a filter please consider doing so. The invested time, effort, and resources can not be over stated as it relates to a positive outcome. I've seen million dollar homes ignoring this basic fact because they just accepted the technology is *Supposed* work around these issues. They don't . . . This is why the basics are always important to follow: 1. Confirmation of bridging / coupling of the single split phase electrical system via the 4 tap beacon test. 2. Filtering all noise makers / signal suckers - removing, replacing anything that can't be filtered. 3. Distribution: Having at least one plugin dual band device on each corner of the home on all levels, floors, zones. 4. Hard resetting all devices to a OEM state prior to installing and enrolling to the Insteon network. 5. Always use linked scenes when possible and only use programs for conditional logic. 6. Avoid close loop programming, blinking, beeper, applications. 7. Adhere to the minimum / maximum rating of each hardware device and the supported loads. 8. Never use a dimmer on a outlet, motor, or anything not rated to do so. 9. Always employ a three layered approach in terms of surge protection throughout the home. 10. Insurance: Always update your home owners insurance to cover these out of band technologies.
  21. You Sir, have most definitely used and applied Insteon home automation as it was intended! Bravo . . .
  22. What exactly does this scene do that includes 90 devices?!?!
  23. Another member last month had the same issue where lights would flicker / pulse. It was found the problem was the Lutron dimmer and not the Insteon hardware given it impacts the incandescent load that would be the first area to review.
  24. Thanks for this - That little nugget wasn't made clear in anything I have read thus far. I am really looking forward to seeing 5.XX Beta released sometime this year! Besides node server support I am eager to have precision values to convert all the whole numbers in place now. As noted in my other thread about the Alexa Custom Announcements its really odd hearing Alexa call out numbers that should be a few decimals over. Having her say the hallway temperature is 210'C vs 21.0'C is very odd to hear! Larry showed me how to use some basic math to convert the whole values in the past. But at this juncture having hundreds of variables in place made no sense investing the time to convert them all. So, I shall await patiently for 5.XX Beta to be released into the wild and go from there.
  25. No, there would be no loss in hops. To add more clarification to what Stu noted between the 2406H vs any dual band device. Any and all dual band device repeats and strengthens the Insteon signal. By rebroadcasting the original message. The 2406H simply passes the original message as is even if it's weak and offers no rebroadcast.
