  1. It happened again. I have upgraded my ISY-99 to ver 2.6.4. When I got home I was trying to get a web page from it using my iPAQ. It would not respond. So I logged into my router and saw that it had been served an address by DHCP. My MEM/ERR lights were turning on and off every 10 seconds. I tried the http://www.universal-devices.com/27 link and it tried to bring up a page. It did show my devices in the tree. When I would log in, it would bring up the log in again and try to do it again. I unplugged the PLM and plugged it back in and everything is fine. I don't know if this is an issue with my iPAQ trying to get a page from it or not. I think I'll leave it alone and not try to use the iPAQ and see what happens. Or should I try and give it an IP address and continue to try and use the iPAQ and see what happens?
  2. IM, not problem. Your intentions were true and just. I have since decided to try one of the beta releases for the ISY-99, rev 2.6.4 So if I do have a problem in the future I will at least be able to have it serve me up a web page. Just in case I don't have the port number for my device. You how procrastination can affect those kind of things.
  3. IndyMike, thanks for the info. Just to clarify, I did not loose the Icon in My Network Places. It was there, it just gave me an error when I clicked on it. Something like this device has been removed or so and so. I don't really remember it exactly. The IP address of my ISY does change from time to time and I can't just type the IP address in if I don't remember which port it uses. My bad for not writing that down at some point. I'll do that right now. Then I can just go to the DHCP list in my router and go to the device that way. And thanks for info regarding the networking, but I am very fluent in networking, so I'm in good shape there. I still would like to hear from Michel about the procedure I should follow to find out why the ISY is not on the network. I have had this issue on two different occasions and he had said the same thing each time I post that I powered everything down to get it back on the network. Just please post a simple procedure to follow to troubleshoot why the ISY is not showing up on the network.
  4. Can you post the directions of what I should do if my ISY drops off the network again? I know that unplugging the PLM is not what I should do, but I have been waiting to see your description of what I should do to troubleshoot it.
  5. And the 15 minute grace period doesn't apply anyway. My ISY was not on the network at 5 pm or so. My schedule not working happened at 7:36 pm. Well outside the 15 minute window. When I first opted to change the schedule was at 5 when I couldn't see the ISY. It was 2 hours later that I noticed it should have been off and wasn't. I know that unplugging the PLM was not the right thing to do, but being able to find what to do from the UDI site or WIKI is a real challenge. And I understand you are working through that right now. Can you post in this topic what I should have done to find out what was going wrong? That way I can refer back to this one and do just that. My ISY is the 99 ir/Pro and it is still at 1.0 just like it was shipped with.
  6. I found some strange behavior from my ISY-99 today. My pool has needed a little extra care lately. I have a schedule that turns my pool pump on each day. Today I came home and cleaned the filter and added some chlorine to it. Since it was after 5 pm my pump was off. So I fired up the laptop and went to My Network Places to jump on to the ISY, but no My Lighting in the tree. I went upstairs to my desktop, and it was the same. I saw no activity on the ISY. So I unplugged the PLM and plugged it back in. Viola, activity on the ISY and it shows up in My Network Places. Back down to the laptop. Since it was after 5pm, I added an OR to my original schedule to make the pool pump run a little bit longer. If From 9:00:00AM To 5:00:00PM (same day) Or From 5:36:00PM on 2008/04/22 To 7:30:00PM on 2008/04/22 Then Set Scene 'Pool Pump Scene' On Else Set Scene 'Pool Pump Scene' Off Pretty simple, huh? Well, it didn't execute correctly. I looked at the clock and saw it was after 7:30 and the pump was still running. I fired the laptop up and opened My Network Places and jumped on the ISY, and the minute I logged into it the pump shut off. And that was 7:36pm. I have two programs in the ISY that I use to turn the light of a keypadlinc on and off to show what the pump is doing. I use it so that if the kids turn the light off on the keypad, then this program will wait 2 seconds and turn it back on. And I have one that does the same, but to turn the light off. Each of the three programs, my two light programs, and my schedule program all show an execution time of 7:36 pm. What gives?

Michel, The only real difference that I know of between my first attempt at restoring the keypad and the second attempt was that the ISY and the PLM were unplugged and moved to a different outlet. Hence restarting both devices. If it happens at another time, I'll try unplugging both of them and plugging them back and try again. I have an ISY-99ir/Pro, and I have the new 2000 link PLM, so I was hoping most issues would have been resolved with this setup. (As far as Insteon PLM issues that is.)

No, I do not have any filterlincs. The operation was performed at very similar times. The computer is plugged into a UPS. TV's are LCD, and none of them were on. I tried it on the second attempt with basically the same situation as before, to the best of my recollection.

Michel, I have my computer on the second floor of my house. My ISY and PLM are plugged into an outlet not far from my computer. One of my access points is also installed near here, about 8 feet away. My bedroom is about 20 or 25 feet away. I unplugged the PLM and the ISY and moved them to an outlet underneath my keypadlinc in the bedroom. I stretched an Ethernet cable over to it and plugged it in. I performed a restore to the relay keypadlinc. It performed this with no problems. I moved everything back to exactly where stuff was to start with and performed a restore again. Once again, no problems. The only thing that looked different was the admin gui. Last night when I did this, the system busy dialog box popped up, but the cursor also turned into an hourglass. When I just did this, the system busy dialog showed up, but the cursor did not turn into an hourglass. Each time the progress bar made its way to 100% and started over. I don't remember exactly how far it got, but it completed on the second go round. Last night I remember the progress bar working across several times. Not sure if this makes any difference or not. Just as a side note, I don't have that many devices installed yet, and have never really had any trouble with things working properly. This problem I saw was new.

Yes, it still failed. I just tried the query from My Lighting and had no problems. And my laundry room program ran fine this morning. I tried it when I got home as well, and it worked then too. Yes, I have a long Ethernet cable. I will move the ISY and PLM to the outlet below my keypadlinc and see how it works. Presently they are only 20ft apart. Not saying that it is on the same phase, or it will be when I move it either. I have an access point in between them as well, by the way the crow flies.

Michel, you mentioned previously this "ISY does not show Fast On/Fast Off in the log. It just shows the status of the device. " So the log would not show the status of the fast on, correct? Let me give you some more info. I turn the kitchen lights on. Do all my normal stuff, then do a fast on from the switch while the lights are still on. So maybe this is why you don't see it in the log, because they are already at 100%. As far as the request failed goes. I have the 99irPro with code 1.0 and the keypadlinc that is not responding to the restore is a brand new relay style. Not sure if that makes a difference or not, but it could. I tried all of my switches from the keypadlinc this morning and everything worked perfectly, as did my laundry room stuff. And see, that is the thing, the laundry room only had a problem when I first started setting up my network. Once I got the ISY figured out then it seemed to be fine. I think this in only the second time I have seen this happen since I got my ISY setup correctly.

No Michel, there is nothing else in my system that triggers the Laundry Rm Virtual 3 Way On. They two switches are crosslinked to each other, and I have that one program that turns the laundry room scene on when the switch is turned fast on. That's it. I did just notice something strange, my B button on the keypadlinc in my bedroom was lit, but the kitchen was not on. I tried the B button, it is tied in with the virtual 3 way for my kitchen light, and the lights did not change state. So, I thought maybe something has gotten hosed in the link table in the devices. So I did a restore on my kitchen master and slave switches. That went OK, but there is no indication from the ISY that anything is happening, just the hourglass. Then I tried the MBR keypadlinc and it failed. I just tried it again and it takes about 3 minutes and I get a box back that says Error Request Failed. I just tried the switches and everything seems to be OK.

Sure, here is the code. It works day in and day out for me. If Control 'Kitchen High Hat Master' is switched Fast On Then Set Scene 'Laundry Rm Virtual 3 Way' On Wait 1 minute Set Scene 'Laundry Rm Virtual 3 Way' Off Run program 'Kitchen 2 Laundry Room' (Else Path) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') The problem I am trying to figure out from the log file is where was the action missed. Was it the fast on from the kitchen, or did the laundry room not get the signal. This is from the log file Kitchen High Hat Slave Status 100% 4/8/08 05:53 AM System Log Kitchen High Hat Master Status 100% 4/8/08 05:53 AM System Log MBR KPL B Status 100% 4/8/08 05:53 AM System Log Laundry Rm Master Status 100% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log Laundry Rm Slave Status 100% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log Laundry Rm Master Status 0% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log Laundry Rm Slave Status 0% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log Scene:Laundry Rm Virtual 3 Way On 255 4/8/08 06:16 AM Scheduler Log Laundry Rm Master Status 100% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log Laundry Rm Slave Status 100% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log Kitchen High Hat Slave Status 0% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log Kitchen High Hat Master Status 0% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log MBR KPL B Status 0% 4/8/08 06:16 AM System Log Scene:Laundry Rm Virtual 3 Way Off 0 4/8/08 06:17 AM Scheduler Log Laundry Rm Master Status 0% 4/8/08 06:17 AM System Log Laundry Rm Slave Status 0% 4/8/08 06:17 AM System Log So, to summarize, at 5:53 I turned on my Kitchen High Hat slave togglelinc that is crosslinked to the master. So at 5:53 the Kitchen High Hat master turned on as well. I have a button on the MBR keypad that is tied in to that same scene. And it turned on at 5:53. Next you see the Laundry Rm master and slave turning on and off. And that seems to be me turning the switch on. Next you see a Scene:Laundry Rm Virtual 3 Way On 255. This was from my program that was triggered by the fast on from the kitchen switch. The funny thing, you don't see the fast on from that switch in the log file. After the Scene, you see both Laundry Rm switches going to 100%. Then we see the Kitchen going to 0%, along with the MBR keypad button. This is me turning the kitchen light off. Then 1 minute later, just like the program calls for it, the Scene:Laundry Rm Virtual 3 way is turned off, and we see the master and slave switch going to 0%. One thing I am seeing is that the log file does not show fast on from the switch. So I can't really figure out where the failure is. I tried the fast on several times and nothing happened. So I tried one of the switches in the laundry room and they both worked together just like they should. After that worked, I tried the fast on from the kitchen switch again and the scene triggered in the laundry room just like it should. Seems to me that I won't be able to figure this out if the ISY does not log fast on from a switch.

I only have Excel 2000 on my home computer, so I can not use the built in log file from the ISY. I did open the text file from the temp directory. I would like to understand it a little bit better. I have a virtual 3 way switch in my laundry room that I have had trouble with a couple of times. I have a switch in my kitchen that I use "Fast On" to make a program run. Once the ISY sees that "Fast On" it will turn my laundry room virtual 3 way scene on. It will wait 1 minute and then turn it back off for me. It didn't work this morning. I tried it several times. What I had to do was to turn the laundry room switch on, and then off. Then when I used "Fast On" from the kitchen switch and it worked fine. I just don't understand what I am seeing in the log file to help determine where the failure was. All of the switches I am talking about are togglelinc relay switches.
  15. You know MikeB, that probably is a better way to do it. I could do just as you say, put both devices in the scene. Then have the schedule turn the scene on and off. That is one of the things that I did want to try and set up. In case the kids turn the button off. Using the scene could make that easier to accomplish. If the ISY sees that someone has turned off the keypad button, then it could rerun the scene to turn everything back on. I think doing it that way would make my setup much simpler.
  16. Yes I am just trying to have an indicator that the pool pump is running. I have a schedule in the ISY that turns the pool pump on and off everyday. My plan was to have the keypadlinc button as a responder so that it would only show the status of the pump. I don't want the kids playing with the button turning the pump on and off. I just wanted the keypad light to reflect the status. Why would you need to make the inlinelinc a controller since it really isn't? Well it isn't a controller any more than an appliance module is (since it has that button on the side)... I can use the status of any insteon device as part of a program... it doesn't need to be a controller. If 'somedevice' is 'ON' ('off' whatever) and the time is after sunset do .... Dave My plan was to have the two work together through a scene instead of a program. It seemed to me that since you have to control a keypad light through a scene, that it was the logical way to go. Since that didn't work, I just made a program that looked at the status of the inlinelinc and turned a scene on or off to update the light on the kepyadlinc.
  17. I just added an Inlinelinc to control my pool pump. In the My Lighting tree, it looks different than the other modules, it's text is in blue. Why is that? I also wanted to create a scene that would have the Inlincelinc and one of the buttons for a keypadlinc in it. What I wanted to do was to have the Inlinelinc as a controller, and one of the buttons from the keypadlinc as a responder. Except that when I drop the Inlinelinc into the scene, it won't allow that. It starts right away as making the Inlinelinc as a responder. I guess I could make a scene with just the keypad button in it, and then make a program that would turn the scene on and off based upon the Inlinelinc's status. Is there something I am missing here, or is this all correct. I have an ISY-99IRPro.
  18. Is this true for the ISY-99 as well? Or do we have to wait for an update from 1.0? I have a PocketPC that I use quite frequently, and it would be very handy at times to be able to pull up an interface with that.
  19. I am trying to understand this a little bit better. This is from the Smarthome site. ISY-99i IR supports up to 1024 devices and scenes and a maximum of 1000 programs. And this as well. Supporting up to 20 triggers and 6 conditions/responses per trigger. So, what this is saying is I could have for example 500 switches and 500 receptacles with room for 24 more devices. And I could have a scene for each switch to turn on each receptacle. Or would that mean a total of scenes and devices would be 1024. And it could have 1000 programs. So, that could mean that I could program 1000 time schedules to turn on each different switch at a different time. And it supports up to 20 triggers with 6 condition/responses per trigger. So that means something like, if I double tap a switch, I want this to happen. That would be using one of the triggers? Am I understanding this correctly? It just seems strange to me that with so much power, it could only handle 20 triggers. And, am I wrong in understanding that the PLM is really where the links for the scenes are stored, the ISY is just assisting in monitoring them and setting them up. Don't get me wrong, I think the device is great. And I am just getting started with mine. It's just that when I have been thinking about what I want to do, I can blow through what I interpret as 20 triggers in no time. I am understanding this incorrectly? Thanks for the guidance.
  20. I found the answer as to why the Excel sheet does not open for some people. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-2071526.php Apparently this is something new that was added starting with Office 2002. So when you try to use pre-Office2002, you can't open the Excel file that the ISY serves up. Here is another post about it. http://safari.oreilly.com/0789731290/ch23lev1sec10
  21. You can try here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/HP011195791033.aspx or here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/HP100969191033.aspx Here is an update for me. My home computer, Windows XP and Office 2000. The Excel file does not work. I get the error I posted above. My work laptop, Windows XP and Office 2007. The Excel file works fine.
  22. I got my replacement switch yesterday. I took some others recommendations and factory reset it while installing it. I created my virtual 3 way scene and dropped both switches in as controllers. Boy that sure was easier than the first time. As a side note. When I took my new switch out, the ground wire broke right off. This switch is just a virtual to the real switch, so I didn't worry too much. I rigged it a little bit to keep it in play. Kinda disappointing. You have a switch go bad, then the replacement switch has the ground break off. Darn it.
  23. Michel, My home computer has Office 2000. My work laptop has Office 2007 if you think there is a difference. I can't imagine there is. When is the report written to the Java temp directory?
  24. I have just gotten started with the ISY-99, and was wondering if I had something wrong. I have only migrated over 4 Insteon devices so far, so maybe I don't have the correct type of devices. I only have Togglelincs as of yet. If I open Tools -->Log (Excel) I get an error. The first thing it does is try to open an Excel spreadsheet, and it asks me if it's OK to run Macros. So I choose yes, and then VBA opens up with an error. Compile Error: Named Argument Not Found. The argument it's looking for is TrailingMinusNumbers: Is this a bug? I would think no matter what devices I have installed the spreadsheet shouldn't fail. I just decided to try some of the other stuff in the tools section, and they all seem to open the same spreadsheet and it fails each time.
  25. d_l and IndyMike, thanks for the clarification. I program energy management systems for a living, so I'm not new to this stuff, but I have only had my ISY in place for a few days. The documentation is a bit sparse at times, but that's understandable. I looked at your post, then looked at my ISY and noticed just what you had mentioned. I had wondered why it showed what it did. And you explained it. It seems that what you were doing is a good programming practice in the ISY. Thanks for the clarification.
