    How did you determine that it was sourcing vs. sinking vs. source/sink? You can know if it source with a simple voltmeter, but it may also be able to sink. They way I'd test that is by using if you have an external 10v voltage source and resistance and can verify that the 2475da2, can draw current through that resistor and lower the voltage (sink current) when its output voltage is set to a value less the the external voltage source. I am using a 2475da2 now with a Mean Well Ballast and some LED lights, and that has worked fine. So either the Mean Well is a Sinking Ballast or the 2475DA2 has the capability of sinking current as well as sourcing. Someone just responded to my request for this ballast from this forum, and has sold me 3 of them. I'm just waiting for delivery. After I get one, I'll validate if it is source only or if it can both source and sink current. But either way, I expect it will work well for me with the Mean Well ballast I plan on using, since the same setup has worked well in the past. PS: if you don't mind external circuity and your dimmer/controller is a sourcing dimmer that does NOT also have 'sinking' capability, you can likely adapt it so that it will sink using just a few external components (NPN transistor, resistors, etc.). It might not draw down all the way to zero volts at the minimum dim level due to the transistor's Vbe (Voltage from base to emitter - typically around 0.7v), but it should otherwise work.

    OK. So after seeing apostolaskisl's response, I did a little research and now I see there are two standards for 0-10v dimming: one where the dimmer controller creates a voltage/current source that drives an input to a dimmer ballast that 'receives' that voltage to adjust how it drives its LED load. The dimmer ballast will also likely have a load resistor that will sink current from that controller source to ground. That is the 'theatrical' standard. And then there's a non-theatrical standard (which I will refer to as a building standard) where the dimmer ballast's input has a 10v reference voltage source with series resistance. The control node's voltage will be at 10v when it is open circuit and no current is being pulled from it. The voltage can be externally pulled down by a dimmer controller that sinks current from it with either variable resistance to ground or by actively driving it to a lower voltage with a current sink driver. i.e., the dimmer controller (e.g. 2475da2) sinks/pulls current from that source and pulls it down towards ground to effectively 'drive' the signal to the desired voltage by sinking current. So, now I see that there are different kinds of 0-10v dimmer controllers, and that they can operate in three possible ways: as a source dimmer controller (theatrical), as a sink dimmer controller (building standard), or as 'either' if it has the ability to source or sink current, thus driving the signal higher or lower in a 'push-pull' method. So my earlier assumption was that the 'theatrical' standard was how things worked. I wasn't aware of the other standard (IEC 60929 Annex E, apparently). But apostolaskisl says (and my reading indicates he's probably right) that most non-theatrical equipment assigns the 'source' functionality to the dimmer ballast and the 'sink' functionality to the controller. I'll probably validate that at the bench next time I get the chance - just to satisfy my curiosity - but for now, I'll trust that apostoaskisl is right. Thanks for clarifying this for me. Note: I tried looking at the 2475da2 and the Mean Well ballast specifications, and to me, those specs really weren't all that clear as to whether each of these devices could act as current source, sink, or source/sink. That would be a nice thing to include in the specs, in my opinion. But since neither of these are designed for 'theatrical' use, they're probably following the controller=sink and ballast=source standard.

    Yeah, the Insteon 10v dimmer just has a 0-10v output that is meant to drive the 0-10v input of a dimming ballast, such as for LEDs or fluourescent lights. The Leviton device, from what I understand, is meant to receive the 120v dimmed output signals from a normal triac-based dimmer, and convert those to a 0-10v output which is then suitable for driving the 0-10v input of a dimmable ballast. The Insteon, the Qubino, and the Leviton all create 0-10v outputs, which to me means they 'source' the 0-10v voltage which is then sent to a ballast which receives it (sinks it). The ballast uses the 0-10v input to create the proper dimmed voltage/current needed by the lights being driven (LED or Fluourescent). That being said, if you purchased an Insteon 2475DA2 0-10v dimmer that's still in good condition and you aren't using it, I know someone who might be willing to buy it. Me.

    I was looking at that Leviton e300-Dow as another 'alternative' if I couldn't find a 2475DA2. It's certainly something to consider, but its on the lower end of my list of preferences due to cost and due to adding another layer of complexity. Std Triac Insteon Dimmer---> Leviton E300 ---> (10v) ---> 0-10v LED Dimmable Ballast ---> LED assembly However, unless someone has a horror story about it, or if I just can't get it, I'll probably go with the Qubino thing. It's smaller and cheaper. But it's got additional complexity as well, since it doesn't run on 120vac ---->120vacto24vdc PS---->Qubino--\ / \ (0-10v dim signal) 120v --/--------------------------------->LED Dimmable Ballast(0-10v)--->LED Assembly Still hoping someone comes up with an 2475DA2 they have laying around and would be willing to sell.

    Hi MrBill Thank you for pointing me to those. Yes, I saw them. I sent a query to the guy to ask if he wanted $250 for five of them or if it was $250 each. The answer was $250 each. Yikes! While I really want one of these, that is just too much for me. So far, I have roughly 50 Insteon devices and perhaps 12 older X10 based devices, and I've been sticking with that for years, avoiding transitioning to Z-wave or Zigbee. But now, I'm starting to think this might be the time to start the transition to Z-wave. I LOVE the built-in 'scene' capabilities of Insteon (and older SmartHome X10 products surprisingly) where switches can be programmed with scenes and you don't have to depend on a controller to implement the scenes. From what I can see, neither Z-wave nor Zigbee support that - or if they do, it is not as easily managed as it is with the ISY. Program your scenes with ISY, and then the ISY is not required in many cases. If the ISY goes down (which has not yet happened to me), the scenes would still work. (Yes I do have some specialty scenes that use ISY programs, but most of my house uses the Insteon built-in scene capability, and the ISY primarily provides 'programming' functionality.) Anyway, if nobody has a spare 2475DA2 they'd be willing to sell for an affordable price within the next week or two, my plan is to add the Z-wave Plus module and use something like a Qubino Z-Wave Plus 0-10 V Dimmer ZMNHVD3 . I'll probably spend $150 on that stuff, including a power supply for the Qubino, but then I'll be ready for additional Z-Wave devices. I'll try to keep the Insteon components where I have lots of scenes. Luckily this LED project doesn't need to be part of any multi-dimmer scenes, so Z-wave should work just fine for that. Still looking for a 2475DA2 if anyone has one at an affordable price, but I have my backup plan as well. Thanks!

    I'll apologize in advance if this is against the rules to ask if something is for sale on here. I can't find the posting rules for this forum. But considering how hard it is to get products from Smarthome these days, this forum seems like a potentially good place for folks who need Smarthome products to ask around and see if anyone has spares for sale. I need a 2475DA2 - a 0-10v ballast dimmer for controlling fluourescent or LED dimmable ballasts/drivers. I set up a custom dimmable LED device in the past using one of these, and it worked great. Now I'm trying to create another dimmable LED project. I had it all planned out with lots of components already purchased. Thought I'd just buy me a 2475DA2 to control it. But nope. There aren't any. And it seems doubtful that Smarthome will make them again. So, do any of you HA fans out there have any 'spares' of the 2475DA2 you'd be willing to sell? Thank you much in advance.

    So, there may be a fly in the ointment of my 'workaround', listed earlier in this thread. It may work well for some situations, but not for others. Here's my interpretations of what I've heard from Lee and Michel and from what I've been seeing with my 2477SA1. Perhaps Lee or Michel can chime in if they think I've got it wrong. It turns out that when you first link the ISY to the 2477SA1 in i2 mode, it writes link #0, which is very important. Later in the initial linking sequence, a NACK occurs that shouldn't occur. This causes the overall linking process to fail, but that first link is in place, which is good because it's needed later. Later, after you do the i1 restore mentioned in my workaround above, you can put the ISY back in i2 mode and successfully communicate with the 2477SA1, because that first link is in place. You can add the 2477SA1 to scenes, and update the links in i2 mode. This will often work out well. However, if you add the 2477SA1 to some other scenes, and the ISY decides to rearrange the links in the link list, you may be in trouble. Apparently Link #0 cannot be re-written without removing the 2477SA1 from the ISY and re-linking it. So as long as your ISY scenes always leave the link #0 intact in the first link position, you're OK. But if it moves that link to another position in the list, you are in trouble. When Link #0 is created when you first link a 2477SA1 to an ISY, the ISY's PLM will always be the first link. You can verify this by looking at your Device Links before adding the device to any scenes. But as you add the 2477SA1 to other scenes, the ISY apparently may choose to rearrange the order links. I'm not sure why. If order isn't important, perhaps they can change the code so that link #0 never moves. Anyway, attached is a screen shot of my ISY and Device links for my 2477SA1. This is from after adding the 2477SA1 to a couple of scenes on a Keypadlinc. My ISY's PLM is 13.21.82, while the Keypadlinc is 1C,8B.20. Notice how link #0 on the left is linking the 2477SA1 to the Keypadlinc (1C.8B.20). However, over on the right side there is a record mismatch in that first position. Link #0 on the right shows a link to the ISY's PLM (13.21.82). That is the original link that was created when the 2477SA1 was first linked to the ISY. You can see the same line at link #3. The ISY apparently rearranged the links and moved what was originally at Link #0 to Link #3. But the 2477SA1 wouldn't overwrite the old Link #0 with the new Link #0 for 1C.8B.20. So control was lost, and I now get errors when trying to communicate with the 2477SA1. . . . It seems to me that if linking Insteon controllers to the 2477SA1 were this problematic in general, Smarthome would never get away with a bug like this. It does seem to be a bug, but perhaps the Smarthome folks know a workaround in the way they do the linking to THEIR controllers that avoids this bug. And perhaps the ISY guys aren't privy to the SmartHome workaround. I'm sure what ISY is doing *SHOULD* work if the 2477SA1 bug wasn't there, but a few of us have found that it doesn't. I'm wondering if it might be worthwhile for the ISY folks to 'reverse engineer' what the SmartHome controllers (such as a SmartLinc or HouseLinc) do when they link to a 2477SA1. Perhaps doing things in a different order or responding to ACKs and NAKs in a different way might provide a software workaround to the problem. I'm hoping for the best, but at this point, I'm thinking about returning all of the 2477SA1s, or possibly using them in X10 mode. I was trying to get away from that. But I've only got a couple of weeks left to return them before I get stuck with them. Any thoughts or comments appreciated! ---- PS: after 'previewing' the above before clicking "Submit", I saw that Michel had responded to my previous post before I could get this one out.     Remove power by pulling set button. Wait 10 seconds or so. Push button back in and hold until switch beeps. Hold another couple of seconds and release. The load turns on full bright. I haven't gone in and queried the links after doing so. Perhaps I should do that to make sure they're being wiped out. Thanks!

    Any chance you or Michel could get SmartHome to review these findings and fix it? Alternatively, can you recommend a Smarthome technical contact I can talk to get them to do something to fix this? And do you think there's any chance Smarthome will swap out my 'bad' 2477SA1 at no cost in a few months after they've fixed the firmware bug, while letting me keep the bad 2477SA1 now? Even though I've figured out a workaround, I'd really rather have a unit without the bug in it. Same goes for those 2486D units I've been talking about in another thread if they turn out to have a bug as well. Note: I'm going to go ahead and send back the second 2477SA1 I got, which is the one that was used for the above troubleshooting. I got it to replace the 'bad' first unit, but it was just as 'bad' as the first unit. Thanks!

    Thanks Lee, You may recall way back in this thread that I said that I originally got the KPL to work correctly for my scene (Not the test scene as requested by Michel, but the original working scene needed for this house). The buttons would all turn on the load as intended. There were two other Switchlincs on each scene, for a total of 3 responders. I had not yet added in the other KPL buttons as responders to each scene, so all the buttons would stay lit. But at least the load could be controlled. I think there were 38 total links on the KPL after setting it that way. Next, I did add each of the other KPL buttons as responders to each scene so that I could get them to turn off when I pressed a Scene button. That's when things broke for that KPL, and I've never been able to get them working again. There were 63 device links in that case. My theory is that the KPL will work OK until you've either got too many links or until you set other KPL buttons as responders to a KPL controller button. Given that SmartHome was trying to resolve an issue with turning off all buttons except the pressed button om mutually exclusive scene buttons with multiple separate controllers, I wouldn't be too surprised if they accidentally sneaked in a bug to turn off the load as well as the other buttons. In this quest to get these KPLs working, I've now got 3 KPLs that won't control the load to any ON level from buttons B-H. No amount of factory resetting, removing from ISY and readding, or even creating completely new scenes to add it to helps. I've got one more brand new KPL in a box, but I hesitate to 'load it up' and break it like I've now broken 3 others. Thanks!

    Continued from above post STEP 9 - Make a Scene and add a Controller - Create a scene, and add the 2477SA1 device and a controller to that scene. That will create additional links for the 2477SA1, and will overwrite the bad link. It seems that its OK to add links in i2 mode. The only thing required for i1 mode is Restoring and re-writing the program for the whole device. In my case, I had a scene with 7 controllers on a single keypadlinc, and I added the 2477SA1 to that scene. I then set the device to "OFF" for buttons B, D, F, and H, and left it at "ON" for C, E, and G. I didn't have "Automatically Write Changes" turned on when I made these edits to the scene. I turned that on after making all the edits so that it would update the device. Right click on the device and selecting Diagnostics -> Show Device Link Table. The ISY will query the device in i2 mode, and get back the list of links that have been programmed. Then, to see how well the links match what the ISY thinks they should be, click on 'Compare' at the bottom of the links table that popped up. At this point, you should show additional links, and if it works the way it did for me, they should all be valid links (indicated as "Identical").     Technical Details - and steps to get around this problem if you find yourself with the same problem Based on all of Lee's and Michel's great comments, I've learned some things. There are still some things I don't know about WHY things don't work right. But I have got a workaround figured out, and I would expect it would work for others. STEP 1) Factory Reset - Start out by factory resetting the 2477SA1. One thing I figured out is that factory reset for the latest versions of the 2477SA1 do NOT match what is in the manual. The manual says: However, on my 2477SA1, you've got to replace Step 5 with: Continue to hold down the Set button until the unit quits beeping. This could be 10 seconds or more. STEP 2 - Set for Automatic i2 Insteon messaging - In the ISY console, the Insteon command set can be set to either "Automatic", "Device Reported", or "i1 Only". See Link Management -> Advanced Options. Set it to Automatic or Device Reported for this set, and be sure to put it back to this setting when all is done. STEP 3 - Program normally in i2 mode - Add the device as you would any other device using the New Insteon Device or Start Linking options. You may want to have the Event Viewer up at Level 3 to watch what happens (and compare to the log below). If your 2477SA1 has the same problem as mine, this effort will fail. The Event Log will show "NACK" errors (Negative acknowledgement) towards the end. However, good things have been happening anyway. The commands sent have been programming a valid link into the 2477SA1 so that it can communicate with the ISY. It just won't communicate yet, because of the NACK error. A failure to communicate popup will pop up, and then the device will have a big red exclamation point next to it. The device won't communicate. Event Viewer, if its up, should show a lot of commands being sent to the device. Most of them are i1 commands, but for some reason, there are some i2cs commands mixed in as well. You may even see a NAK or two. But in most cases this will work, and the big red exclamation point should go away. If it doesn't, try again. with On/Off commands from the ISY. Try it out. STEP 6 - Set back to Automatic i2 Insteon messaging - Set Link Management -> Advanced Options. to Automatic or Device Reported. STEP 7 - Query Device Links - At this point, your device may be programmed completely correctly, or it may have a link error on it. Check it out by right clicking on the device and selecting Diagnostics -> Show Device Link Table. The ISY will query the device in i2 mode, and get back the list of links that have been programmed. Then, to see how well the links match what the ISY thinks they should be, click on 'Compare' at the bottom of the links table that popped up. At this point, there really should only be 1 link, followed by a link row of all zeroes. But in my case that wasn't the case. Below is a screen grab of my device links table after the compare that shows a 'bad' link labeled as "Record Mismatch" at 0x0FF0.     Hi Lee, Yes, I understand that 'on/off' type devices, such as relay switches and LED buttons have no ramp rate. I was just trying to show the symptoms and to indicate that they seemed strange. I'm wondering if anyone knows why either A) the ISY, or the KPL shows the ramp rate as 9 minutes? What is the point in that? And it's only 9 minutes for the active controller button. All of the 'responder' buttons for that controller group have their ramp rate set to .1 sec. It doesn't bother me particularly that the ramp rate shows as 9 minutes, because in reality the button doesn't ramp - it switches immediately. However, if software in the ISY or in the 2486D is setting that byte incorrectly, and that is causing another unexpected problem elsewhere, then it is of concern. So since it was 'strange', I thought it would be good to report it. Sometimes little quirks like that can provide an 'aha' moment to a programmer, when they realize that perhaps the wrong byte was set in some location. Maybe that ramp rate byte getting set to 0x00 should not be happening, and when it happens, it is causing something else to not work right. Thanks for trying to reproduce this and help me out!
