I am sure the 'old hands' working with this app 'just know' where to find things

Right from here: upgrade discount eligibility and ordering instructions. which leads to: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Z-Wave:_Ordering/Assembly_Instructions I have looked trough all 4 pages and have not found any other download link Googling for "isy-994i software" gets me. as a first find to: https://www.universal-devices.com/smarthome/ no software link on that page Finally, on https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/25027-release-5014-beta-is-now-available/ finally, I see a link for 5.0.14 and once I found that link, I headed back to the 5.3.0 page and eventually found a link for 5.3.0, well hidden way down the page. Thank you for getting me to do a more thoroughly search for a link, though, I still think it ought to be easier to find in a more central location. Updated both the firmware & UI, but now I have a different issue. Will start a new thread for it.

I had assumed that when I choose my last update it ended up as the 'latest', but apparently not and now that I am actually looking for the 'latest', I am having issues finding it. When I search, I find a forum post, 4 pages long, which starts with an update for z-wave, which I don't have and it looks like it is intended for a 'paid' update. I suppose things have been going too well for me and I have lost touch with the upgrades. But IMO, it should be a bit easier to find out about such things. Seem for other software, it is much easier to find a 'download ' page, with all the details about what versions are available, which are free, or free for the current major version, .... For my ISY this seems to be quite different, and I have had no luck now that I have looked for it

Just upgraded my YSY-9994i UDI Admin console to Firmware 4.8.0 & UI 4.7.3. As part of my trying to work with the console to resolve some issues, I ended up looking around and found the Tools -> Floor Plan menu item. Clicking on it does nothing. Searching the forums, I found that this option had been inoperative for some time. So, why is it still part of the UI? Are there plans to revive it? if not, why is it still there???

Replacements for discontinued Smarthome devices
outsider replied to outsider's topic in INSTEON Communications Issues
@lilyoyo1 yes, it was, but every body has some favorites and usually for good reasons. In my case, the system pretty well consists only of lights and outlets, with one manual controller. The other controller(s) long ago bit the dust. Some of the lights are controlled by motion sensors, the others run on a time table. One or two I want to have manual control over so I can turn them on and off as needed, for instance the Christmas tree. A couple of circuits are set for 3-way control, where the original builders were too cheap to install them at the start. Nothing fancy and at this point it, I am hard pressed to pick one system over another. All have strengths and weak points. Reading the message boards helps a lot, but in the end it is still very hard to make useful trade offs, when many of the features discussed are of no interest to me. @Brian HHad a long read of the pages and pages of discussion in the link you provided. After looking through my 'rejects' pile, I found another dead 2413S, along with a likely still working 2413U. Thus, along with the 2 which I believe are still working (or maybe not!), and which are most likely reaching their drop dead date, I guess I will have to dig in and try to resurrect the ones I know are dead and then consider updating/fixing the other 2. The one connecting my ISY-994i to the power line is a is a 2413, v 2.1 installed Apr 2015 The other one, supposedly a phase coupler, is a 2443 V 2.A - no date of installation. The 2 defunct ones are one 2413U V1.5 the other a 2413S, also V1.5 I'll have to reread some of the comment in the '2413 Fixing' thread and look around what I can find in the way of replacement capacitors. It will take me some time, though I hope I can report back eventually. Big thanks to all of you folks who have worked on this 'fix' -
Replacements for discontinued Smarthome devices
outsider replied to outsider's topic in INSTEON Communications Issues
Yes, I do have one 2443 V 2.A AccessPoint that seems to be dead. When I plug it in,the LED stays off. I even had a look inside as it was used in place where it might have been bumped into, possibly causing some internal damage. Could not see anything obvious and without much in the way of schematic or other test setup, I just closed it up and marked it U/S. At this point, I am seriously considering moving away from Insteon, most likely to ZWave and either get a ZWave add-on to the ISY-994i or try to run both in parallel with ZWave hub (make to be sorted out yet) and gradually move away from Insteon as I have to replace modules. Any thoughts or known gotchas? -
Replacements for discontinued Smarthome devices
outsider replied to outsider's topic in INSTEON Communications Issues
Thank you for your thoughts and information, Brian. All in all, I think it is time for me to move on to something other than power line signaling. It seems the makers of Insteon gadgets have decided the same. I have no idea which way they might decide to go, but, it seems they are going .... So for me the question is more, which way can I go. Over the years, modules have died and had to be replaced. Initially it was all X10, now there is nothing of that left in my system, I think. Usually there was no longer a direct replacement, so gradually, my system moved to Insteon. My central controller is a ISY-994i and the only upgrade or expansion at this time for that seems to be a ZWave plugin. So it seems my only choice right now is to get that plugin and move to ZWave. Seems like the least expensive and least rework for my system. Another consideration: I have had reasonably good experience with the ISY-944 system, and with UD deciding to support ZWave with the plug-in, it sure seems they are leaning the same way. I assume they could have supported any one of a number of other protocols and they chose ZWave. I will have to look around for a bit, but with winter on the way, I'd rather get all the outside work done before it gets too cold. My current issue is with a switch controlling lights in an unheated garage, .... -
In trying to track down my problem with not being able to add a 2477D switch module to my ISY-994i/IRPro, I was looking to add some noise filters FilterLinc and Access Point/Range extenders 2443 but was told by my supplier in Canada (Aartech), neither of these were any longer available. Are there any (recommended) alternative devices or do I have to rethink and rewire my setup?

Thank you all, have been able to locate & order the connectors from Future Electronics

I am having the same problem. @Scottmichaelj can you please give more details on the end connectors of the test cord: Make and model? Ans possibly where one might be able to get some? TIA

It seems I had a fixed IP address with the earlier router, but it would surely be nice if one could set this option from the serial interface _directly_ Before reading jtara92101's post , I was trying to use the address I had reserved - that plus the unexpected case sensitivity of the Y/N reply - when commands are accepted in either case - really threw me for a loop. Using 0.0.0.0 then advised me that that was the way to set DHCP - not very intuitive But it is working now, so thank you all As well, I realized while looking at the telnet interface, that it has/had some DEBUG levels - which are not available in the serial interface

Thank you; I'll add this to my local FAQ
-
After realizing the my input is case sensitive for its y/n query, I finally got it to accept my data and ISY finder finally can find it. A bit of a nuisance since my user name & password are mixed case But thank both of you for your help

As far as I can tell/remember it was/is set for DHCP. However the router I have now is set for the subnet 192.168.1 Not being a LAN expert, I am a bit reluctant to mess to much with my setup. I'll have to see how far I get with this suggestion. As I mentioned in my earlier reply to PaulBates the serial interface implies the needed commands, but I have not been able to make them work
