Thermostat Recomendations - Insteon or Z-Wave
hedgehogfrenzy replied to hedgehogfrenzy's topic in ISY994
Sorry. Didn't have notifications turned on and didn't see the replies. Taken...its very dark gray....not black. And with colors in my home...looks a heck of a lot more attractive than a typical white thermostat. JetFan....You don't have to use the Nexia bridge. It's just a Z-Wave device on the back end and paired with my ISY in 3 seconds. Larry....not a rebadged Honeywell. While the interface has a couple of similarities...there are a lot of differences. 4 days in and right now I've impressed with this little thing. -
Thermostat Recomendations - Insteon or Z-Wave
hedgehogfrenzy replied to hedgehogfrenzy's topic in ISY994
Just to report back, ended up with a Trane XL624. Enrolled it in a snap, ton of settings, humidity sensor (if your into that kind of thing)...reports all settings and statuses...updates way faster than my Venstar EVER did. Thanks for pushing me towards a Z-Wave Thermostat...it was a good decisions. BTW...got mine from this listing on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201753611302?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Brand new, in box, took an "offer" of $50. That's less than half the price on Amazon if anyone is in the market for a Thermostat. -
Thermostat Recomendations - Insteon or Z-Wave
hedgehogfrenzy replied to hedgehogfrenzy's topic in ISY994
Thanks for all the input. It looks like a thermostat is going to be my first Z-Wave device...it may open the door to a whole 'nother world of devices. I've ready a lot of goor reviews about the Honeywells, but I honestly think they look ugly...we have a bunch of those same design (without Z-Wave) at my company and they are unnecessarily complicated. I'm leaning toward the Trane unit but we'll see.... -
Does anyone have any recommendations on thermostats? It's a surprisingly complicated topic given that all other Insteon products I have work really well 99% of the time. There just don't seem to be a ton of options. I've had a Venstar with the build in Insteon module for a few years now, but that thing has gone wonky...the backlight doesn't work anymore, LEDs are broken and worse...it won't poll correctly anymore and causes massive hangups on the ISY while it's waiting on it's status to execute...causing other programs to hang for 60+ seconds at a time. Looking at the following devices: 1) Smarthome Branded / Insteon Thermostat for Heat Pumps (I have a heat pump) 2) Interlogix CT-32 3) Trane XL-624 Anyone have anything positive to say about any of these? I have the Z-Wave module for the ISY but honestly I've never used it. I don't have any Z-Wave devices but the thermostat is only 8 feet from the ISY through one door/wall. Do I need more than one Z-Wave devices in my system for it to be reliable? Will a Z-Wave thermostat report temperature status and create events in the ISY on button presses just like an Insteon device does? Thanks.

Yeah, it's the non error blink that I don't like. I don't have error issues and don't see the red. I only see the green when I press a button, which as far as I'm concerned, I don't need an indicator that it worked ok. Overheard: "What's a light mean?" Answer: "that means it worked right."

Thanks for all the feedback. I posted this, then went traveling on business for a couple of weeks, and realized I never got back on here. So what I'm getting is that it looks like a new feature, that may be able to be adjusted when UDI updates ISY with new firmware features...or maybe this is now just the way it is. It's not a huge deal, but not all that elegant either. It's Insteon, I should have expected that they'd change something random as I build out my system.

I just installed a new Keypadlinc, and every time you press a button, the green LED flashes as a transmit indicator, or something similar. It's odd since none of my other keypads do it, plus it's kind of tacky. I searched the forum and inter-webs for about 20 minutes but couldn't find a solution. Anyone ever seen this or have any idea if it's a feature that's controllable...or if it's a permanent function of newer firmware? Thanks.

I see. There was a lot of excitement about it...I was kinda curious as this is my first device that has it included. Thanks.

Call me a rube...but I've searched the entire forum up and down to figure out exactly what the heartbeat function accomplishes and haven't seen a simple explanation. And of course, it's not documented by Smarthome. I know it sends a "I'm here" signal on it's set interval...but what does that do? I could see where it would be important for a leak sensor...because if it broke and you didn't know, you'd be boned. But is there anything else it accomplishes other than that? Thanks.

Went offline for a couple of days due to work. I like your implementation...I hadn't thought about the fact that I could use a variable to track light states and then program what the off button does depending on what's lit/happening. That is a good way to fix my "all off" situation since I'd only be turning off all lights if certain scenes were on. Thanks.
-
So a couple of things... 1) Doesn't sound like it's possible, so I'm going to let it slide unless someone else chimes in. 2) 13 colored lights...sounds trippy...like a fun *** room to hang out in. 3) How do you control 15 light scenes from one dimmer?
-
I'd like to use a Fast Off command as a way to enable a secondary scene to turn off multiple lights where there is a multi-button keypad across the room. I created a program that turns off all the scenes when you double tap off, and it does work. But the lights connected to that scene go down instantly (because of the double tap) while the rest of the lights in the scene fade down normally. Is there a way to program around the fast off command and make the lights that are connected to switch fade down, effectively turning the fast off into remote command only. Thanks.

What kind of logging are you guys doing?

It's interesting hanging out around here. I've got a good 35 programs or so, and I feel like I've just started, and figured I'd end up somewhere around 100. That being said, I didn't imagine having more than 5 or 10 when I bought this thing. I'm having a hard time figuring out what your 300+ programs all do....crazy.
