  1. Would that also then allow me to connect to the ISY using REST over https? I'm a little fuzzy on what the UDI Portal would do for me other than remove the need for port forwarding.
  2. Thanks MrBill. So if I do that then I don't have to deal with certificates? I'm in! lol All the other stuff that I have working will continue to work? REST, IR, ZWAVE all of that remains the same?
  3. Hi, I wanted to start using https with my ISY994i and self-signed certificated sounded like the first baby step. I don't know about everybody else but that is one hell of a baby step for me. LOL I looked at the UDI pdf that goed over using certs but my head just spins uncontrollably. Any hand holding would be hugely appreciated. I'll need to access the ISY remotely, currently to do that I've got the home network there using DDNS, and I use the DDNS name to access the ISY over http As far as the instructions for using a self signed cert. I go into the ISY dashboard and get up to the point where I fill out the SSL Certificates Mangement fields and click the 'Self Signed' button. After I click the button I get the prompt that the ISY will reboot. Now I have no idea what to do next.... Is it supposed to now work with https? Cause it doesn't for me. For the host name in the certificate information, does that need to be the ip address of the ISY or the DDNS name for the home network? Or something else entirely. Any help would be really, really appreciated. Thanks! I've read a bunch of threads that say self-signed isn't as safe as using CA. I can understand that, I just want to start using https and don't think I can handle something even more complicated right now. lol
  4. Unfortunately, yes I am sure. I originally though I could just replace the controller in the fan canopy with the fanlinc and be off an running but after quite a bit of googling it seems a lot of the fans that are sold by lowes and home depot are now DC motors. Here's the link to my fan on the lowes site http://www.lowes.com/pd/Harbor-Breeze-Platinum-Kingsbury-70-in-Oil-Rubbed-Bronze-Downrod-Mount-Indoor-Ceiling-Fan-with-Light-Kit-and-Remote-ENERGY-STAR/50057203. Under Specifications it had Motor Type listed as DC.
  5. Hi, I'm in the US, the fan is from Lowes. It's the Harbor Breeze Kingsbury 70-in Ceiling Fan with Light Kit and Remote I was really hoping there would be a solution where I didn't have to Mcgyver things to get it to work.
  6. I have a harbor breeze ceiling fan that has a DC motor and a RF remote control to control the light and fan. I had purchased a fanlinc with the 6 button keypad without realizing that the fan's motor was DC. After looking at a few threads about controlling DC fans with a fanlinc is seems that will not be an option for me. Is there something that does IP to RF? Something that could learn the remote's commands and then be controlled with the ISY using the network module. Just throwing it out there, it seems the trend in ceiling fans is to have proprietary remotes and controllers. Making it practically impossible to incorporate into any home automation. Something that would be able to learn the commands from the remote would be the smoothest way to control the fan in my opinion. Hopefully someone has an elegant solution. Steve
  7. I figured it out. I was having a hard time figuring out that the rest command that was being sent was actually setting the variable. I was also not understanding that the 37 in the rest command (/rest/vars/set/1/37/1) was the Id for the variable that you create. All this stuff that's probably pretty easy for you guys was making my head spin. lol This all works like a charm thanks for sharing this info, it goes without saying that if you didn't have it here there is noooo way I would have ever figured out how to do this. Thanks a ton!
  8. Can anybody offer more details or screen caps to help me out? I'd love to get this to work for me but I'm not familiar enough with the product to get it done. Any guidance would be REALLY appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Hi! This is exactly what I'm looking for, I've got a rental house that is in another state and I use the ISY to control the thermostats. It works great but occasionally the house's cable modem conks out. I've got all the pieces I need to have the ISY reboot the cable modem when the internet is no longer available, I've got an insteon power outlet with the cable modem plugged into it, I purchased the network module for the ISY and the ISY is reachable by dns name,. I guess the problem I have is that I'm not well versed enough in the network module to figure out what goes where in the posts. I think I correctly setup the InternetTest resource (see screenshot) but now I don't know how to do the rest. Would it be possible to get screenshots of the different pieces that need to be configured for this to work? Or maybe more of a description of which piece goes where for us newbie? Thanks in advance this is exactly what I'd like to do. Regards, Stephan
  10. oh I didn't remove the thermostat from the ISY, I just created a new scene and added an existing thermostat to it. I'll try that when I go back up this weekend, and if that doesn't work I'll call tech support. Thanks for everyone's help!
  11. ok I'm now using the same version on both the admin and the firmware. I created a new test scene but it still doesn't work - when I requery the thermostat the setpoint changes back to what it was before I turned the new test scene on.
  12. I upgraded the firmware on my ISY to 3.3.10 and I upgraded my UI to 3.3.9 (LOVE the new interface BTW) but unfortunately none of the upgrades helped with my scene correctly turning on thermostats.
  13. Thanks Xathros, Good idea, I do have a PC I can remote and I'm tempted to but just in case I'll wait until tonight when I get to the house.
  14. ok I'll update it when I head over there this weekend. I'll keep you posted!
  15. Ok great, I'll give it a try. Is this something that wouldn't be a problem if I do remotely? Or would you recommend I do this while physically at the house? Thanks
  16. Thanks Michel, this is a brand new install I bought the ISY a couple of weeks ago. Just to make sure I did help about in the admin console and it says firmware v.3.2.6 and the UI says v.3.2.6 as well. Is that what you are referring to?
  17. Hi Michel, Yes I can set the setpoints on all the thermostats without a problem, the program that I created also sets the setpoints without a problem. When I use the scenes however they don't set the setpoint. If I look at the individual thermostats in the admin console they reflect the scene's setpoint immediately, but if I right click on the thermostat and click query it refreshes and shows me the original setpoint. So the admin page thinks that it changed the setpoint but in actuallity it didn't. When I run the program that sets the setpoint it gets set correctly, also if I click on the individual thermostats and increase/decrease the setpoint there it also works correctly. It also works if I go to the web page and click the up/down arrows on that site. As far as I can tell, the scenes are the only thing that doesn't seem to work for me. BTW - on a side note, when I originally setup the thermostats to work with the ISY, the only way I could get them to work correctly with it was to do the right mouse click | Diagnostics | Query Insteon Engine - then they communicated with the ISY without a problem. I don't know if that's something that is normal but it was something I needed to do for the first set of thermostats I installed, then I did it with every thermostat and they all were able to communicate with the ISY without a problem... well aside from this scene thing.
  18. I have 16 thermostats installed (Venstar 1 day thermostats connecting to a ISY994i) they control the electric baseboard heaters throughout the house. I setup two scenes, one for turning them on when I am coming to the house and one for turning them off when I leave the house. When I trigger the scene the thermostats in the admin console will all show the setpoint as having been changed but when I right click and query the thermostat (or go over to the thermostat and look at it) the setpoint never changed. I ended up creating a program that will set the mode of all the thermostats to Heat and then setpoint to every thermostat to what I want it to be. When I right click the program and 'Run Then' the thermostat setpoints are set correctly. Having it work one way or the other is already a great thing - but ultimately having the ability to just turn on the scene and have it work would be ideal. Scenes are less clunky on the web page on a phone. Thanks in advance for your help. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stephan
