  1. Orbit sells a nice system of "smart" controllers. The 12-zone and 16 zone total $330 from Amazon. Getting the equivalent from OpenSprinkler is $465. (yes, there'd be lots of extra zones that I don't need). But what's going through my head is: Orbit may be 30% less, but saving money on something that fails to meet my expectations (independence from 3rd -party* servers) is not really a savings at all. (because, really, I could retain my dumb controllers for zero spend) *third-party doesn't bother me because of the data breach/security risks. Instead I am rather tired of my perfectly good systems dying when the provider retires the backend services.
  2. Exactly. the wires terminate in the garage (for the front yard) and the shed (backyard). I did consider one controller and a RPi (OSPI), as a remote, but adding the costs for the RPi and an enclosure only saves about $25. And convenience of matching systems is worth a little extra cost. I'll wait a week to see if others have suggestions before pulling the trigger.
  3. I read through the docs for OpenSprinkler. Looks nearly ideal. I was especially pleased to see the inclusion of wunderground for weather parameters. The 16 station is must have for me (front yard is 12 stations; backyard is 16 due to poor water pressure here) Haven't yet placed my order - the price is at the high end of my budget. (controller+expansion+ethernet x 2 = ~$500)
  4. I was originally attracted to the Orbit controllers, but there seems to be no comments here about compatibilty. https://www.orbitonline.com/products/b-hyve-xr-smart-indoor-outdoor-sprinkler-timer?variant=36386483896488
  5. I see current comments about supporting older sprinkler control systems. And, I see recommendations (from 2020!) for ISY-compatible sprinkler controllers. I am particularly interested in a controller that works with (hacks are OK) my Polisy. I am actively avoiding manufacturers which require use of their servers for communications. I am intrigued with the RainMachine but they no longer sell products (all are discontinued) https://www.rainmachine.com/products/ Any recommendations for 2024?
  6. Resolved. When setting up my new router I switched the default DNS to 1.1.1.1. This DNS provider is known to be faster and secure. switching back to my ISP as the default DNS restored the ISYPortal functions. Note to UDI: This was seriously hard to troubleshoot because the Admin Portal fails to show all the DHCP settings (see screenshots above). For example I had to use packet sniffing to see which DNS server ISY was using. Eventually determined that ISY would not use new DHCP settings unless uplugged first - rebooting did not consistently update DNS PS: though I installed firmware 4.7 during troubleshooting, it was not (that I know of) relevant for the resolution
  7. Paul, the last step was to install firmware version 4.7 - which is not available online. Have you a link to the file?
  8. With the ISY safely back on the router ISYPortal is dead again. What needs to be done to restore the ISYPortal? Note: I still have the original router - no ports and no firewall rules appear to have been used for ISY, and it worked.
  9. scary bad, but this works. I connected the ISY directly to my ISP modem. Now it is completely vulnerable to the world, but ISYPortal works It is really weird that DCHP still is blank for mandatory fields (thus my conclusion this isn't relevant to my issue)
  10. I seem to have symptoms very similar to jgcharlotte All seemed fine (accept a ghost program) before the router was replaced (due to significant NAT limitation of a Netgear 3700) with a Ubiquity ER-X. With the ISY plugged into the router, NTP won't sync, DNS won't resolve (error in log) my.isy.io. The DHCP section seems blank (irrelevant - see later), but using static values makes no improvement. Other devices on the same subnet successfully resolve NTP and DNS (yes, to my.isy.io) The portals tab shows offline and registered. How to restore ISYPortal ?
