  1. is there a link that explains how to go through the global cache to harmony…or can you outline how to do that.
  2. When I go into Link management then Start Linking, nothing happens. no error message. nothing. is there something i have to do on the control end? i thought that since my ps3 (via ethernet) and my tv & Fios box (via the gc100) were connected to the network that they would show up automatically. Am i missing a step?
  3. Trying to connect my ps3, tv, fits box and Visio amp to my isy. As I understand the go-ire/irl is needed to connect my gc100 to my isy, as it does not have the built in serial to digital like the newer itach models.
  4. I am trying to set up the gc-100 with my isy. And somehow i missed the need to have a gc-ire or gc-irl in addition to the gc-100. Is there a way to work around this extra piece of hardware? Can I not use the ethernet slot on the gc-100 to communicate with my system? (the gc-100 is showing up on my network via ethernet). maybe an android app…or using my harmony ultimate hub? Also, is this hardware only needed for setup?, or will i need it to use the device, and thus have only 1 available serial port available? if i do need the hardware, would you recommend buying the gc-ire or the gc-irl? I am looking for Any way to avoid waiting another week to spend more money to order more stuff I did not know i needed? sorry, I am just a bit frustrated at continually discovering new ways that I am ignorant on all things tech.
  5. This is what happened when i did a diagnostic on the PLM
  6. Michel, I registered the isy994izs/ir at your direction. I am using url http://192.168.1.111, based on the static ip i set.
  7. fyi: I am VERY new to the isy When I open device manager I see three columns. my devices, my scenes, my folders. when i click the configurations icon, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong. Devices I expected to have conectability: FIOS box connected to global cache. PS3 connected to modem via ethernet Logitech Harmony Hub

    newbie product list

can i use any serial wire with the gc or do i need special ones? I recall seeing something about smart wires...but dont have a clue what they are.also is the gc-100-12 different from the gc-100-18 other than in the size? is that just so it is uniform with a rack? and can i add rack mounts later if i want?

    newbie product list

Thank you both for your quick responses. I can tell that I have a whole new language to speak. Steigs: does this mean i have to purchase global cache devices, if so which kind and how many? I was under the impression that the hub had ir, bluetooth, rf, and wifi built into it. but maybe my understanding is still so minimal that I am imagining that to mean something other than it actually does.
  10. being new to isy, I am wondering what the possibility is of the system being hacked to create security, identity concerns.

    high tech laundry

tell me if this is a pipe dream or could become reality. I have a dream to fully automate the laundry system in my house, sans the folding & ironing (unless someone has an idea for that) I would like for laundry to automatically go into the washing machine from the chute. whites & colors separately. When the load becomes a designated size for the detergent & softener to be added, and for the load to wash...then dry...then empty itself into a clean laundry pile, with the system ready for the next load. All unmanned. i cant imagine folding and ironing are possible without some elaborate machinery, but I am certainly open to ideas. Am I out of the realm of do-ability?
  12. I am hoping to have a fully automated home...eventually. 30+ outlets 16+ light switches HVAC/thermostat (are these one in the same to turn automated?) smart power grid 2 refridgerators 1 stove 1 dish washer 1 garbage disposal 3 toilets (if possible to automate) 2 shower (if possible to automate) plumbing (if possible to automate) irrigation system 2tvs ps3 blue ray player FIOS box 2 smartphones 3 ipads 1 macbook pro 21 windows (security and automated blinds) 5 external doors (locks & security) 1 garage door functionality & security washer/dryer 2 fireplaces heated floors not including install 6 fire alarms 1 carbon monoxide alarm install voice operation install full house speakers

    New windows

I am having replacement windows installed to overcome the heating bills that result from single pane glass during a pittsburgh winter. Eventually I would like to have automated blinds, and window security on every window. Is there anything that I should get done along with the window installation in order to same time/money down the line?
  14. I am as wet behind the ears as the isy user gets. I just purchased an isy994iz/ir. it has not arrived yet. I also purchased the dual-band modem. I plan on starting slowly and building over time...although I can already tell that this will likely become a bit of an obsession for me, if it is/can do all that I have read on it. Is there anything else I need to get started? First I plan on using the isy as a universal remote for my AV system. I have verizon FIOS with a cable modem/router and a nexus router to augment the signal. I have a Pioneer non-smart Kuro TV, a Ps3 for blueray and Netflix, and, theoretically, gaming. I have a non-hd set top box for Verizon FIOS. I have three ipads, 1 macbook pro, and two Motorola Droid Razr Maxx phones that I would like to incorporate into the system. Can someone give me a list of items I will need to purchase to get the capability of a universal remote for this system? Also, how much time should I anticipate it to take for initial setup? I have no computer programming knowledge, but learn almost anything quickly? have i bitten off more than I chew?
