So i took your advice, found the pertinent Brian H post to test the PLM, and it appears my cable and PLM are working fine, sending and recieving communication as it should. My link tables are empty as it should be as ive factory reset and there does not appear to be any issue on the PLM side of things. I'll play around with a few more things and see whats up, but having a working PLM is at least a good thing. I actually just ordered the eisy and i'll just hope i have better luck there than the polisy.

Thanks Geddy. I used the pinout as listed on the serial PLM kit link (https://www.universal-devices.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Serial-to-RJ45-Connection-scaled-e1674170254984.jpg). Researching some numbers, this looks like DB9 ports 5, 3 and 2, which matches what you said. Other side seems to correlate as well. So the pinout seems ok. When i meant the cable i connected to my 994i, i meant the ethernet cable which is what i have from my 2416S to the DB9 from RB45 jack. I do'nt know if that cable matters, whether CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 but i used what came with the PLM kit so hopefully that is right. I will research how i can test the PLM and see if it got damaged in move or during initial resets somehow? Thanks for your help though.

Yeah, i might have to try to ol' 994i again, though i need to factory reset that because it's got old house info. I think i'll go with the eisy, if i am starting from scratch anyway and hope i have better luck with that.
-
Honestly i thought about that, but maybe my PLM became defective and i can't get a new one anyway? But i think in the end i'll order the eisy and give it a go.

So i moved, in my old house i had an ISY-994 and it was great. I bought a polisy about 6 months ago, but never got around to upgrading, then when i determined i was moving, i figured i'd start fresh in new house. I removed all my switches/devices from my old house and brought them with me for install in my new house. Now i want to start completely from scratch with the Policy and my PLM. EVERYTHING i read in all the documentation talks about restoring the PLM when using on a new system.... i do not want to restore anything. I would love to wipe the polisy and the PLM to factory defaults. The Polisy i reset through Telnet and remove/install pkg isy, but the PLM is my concern. I have a 2413S, which i bought the serial connection kit. I tried connecting to the DB9 jack directly, or through the USB port with that part of the serial connection kit. I did the factory reset on the PLM, Hold down the button, unplug, unplug the polisy, unplug the PLM from the polisy, plug back in the PLM while holding down the button, wait till the beep stops and let go, which should be a factory reset. Then i'll reconnect to the polisy, and plug the polisy back in. Get into Admin console, check the Insteon support box, save, reboot, restart admin console and check and PLM comes up not connected. Ive tried to restore, but that just gives me an endless busy loop, until i reset everything again and try again. I've tried delete PLM, then restore, still nothing. I've tried multiple cables including the one i used to connect to my old ISY-994, etc. One other note, the polisy is giving me errors with selecting my time zone and the sunrise/sunset is off. If i try to change my location, i'll get an error request failed, or sometimes i'll get a "could not open config file to read [blahblahblah/insteng.opt]" error box. Relevant? i'm not sure. All versions of ISY and Polygot are the latest, BIOS matches ISY version or IOX, sorry still call it ISY, 5.5.7. Ive been scouring the threads, and reading every wiki entry for about a week to try to work this out. I'm on to my last step of asking for help here. Any assistance would be great! I wanted to use the Polisy and not go back to my ISY-994i, but i'm almost at the point where i'll have to if i cant get this Polisy ISY to work.

I've been hesitant to go the polygot way as I was hoping I could do everything through ISY network resources without implementing another RPI program that is constantly checking for variables from my ISY. I see someone here posted how to load a specific file, THANK YOU, that is what I needed. Now with the play command, I should also be able to turn off repeat though correct, because I do not want my announcement playing over and over again.

No holding down the switch doesn't help. The switch thinks its at full brightness, and so does my ISY. I checked with a 2nd switchlinc 2 wire real quick without actually checking the brightness at the ISY or with the LEDs, maybe 1 of them is acting up and the other will allow it to get to full brightness. I will test again. Thanks for saving me a switch as I was about to go hot/neutral to my 2-wire, glad I asked first.

I tried searching, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I have an older house, no neutral in most switches, so I've bought multiple 2-wire switchlincs. I know the 2-wire takes some juice from the circuit to power itself, but does it also affect the brightness of the light? This is a Halogen 150w bulb in a ceiling fan fixture. I have a fanlinc but wanted the light wired directly to a switch on the wall through a 2-wire switchlinc. Problem is once I hook up that 2-wire switchlinc the light is not as bright as when it is through a manual switch or hard wired, this normal? I tested it with 2 different 2-wire switchlincs and same thing. Also what would happen if I just wired a 2-wire switchlinc to a hot and a neutral as opposed to a hot/load? I ask because my other option is to use the fanlinc to control the light on the fan, then just have the switchlinc be the controller for the light portion of the fanlinc. But I would have to power the switchlinc 2 wire, can I do that by just running hot/neutral through the switch or do I have to get a standard 3 wire switchlinc to work in that way? Thanks in advance folks.

I'm a newbie to ISYs and home automation and all this fun stuff, but I have a physical question about space. Where I have my router setup is behind my entertainment center, where I then also set up my ISY and PLM due to access to my ethernet switch. Also here I have a syncronolinc for my TV, and I want to get a IRLinc as well, but these damn plug ins take up so much room! How are you guys doing it? I want to get a good power strip with wide spacing that can fit the syncronolinc and an IRlinc. My PLM is plugged directly into the outlet so I am not doing that. So first off is it ok to have components besides the PLM plugged into a power strip as opposed to directly into an outlet? And secondly, what power strips are you guys using if you have a bunch of different objects close by?

That is why I used "control is switched on" for your tv. It will only be true when the tv is switched from off to on (at least with a synchrolinc). I misunderstood on the light on/off, thought you wanted the light to turn on with the tv, not off. So swap on for off and vice-versa on the lights. Be aware, that for "if status is on" you might instead say "if status is not off" since "not off" encompasses all the dimmed states whereas "on" means 100% only. Thanks, yeah I use not off, but just simplified for the point of describing my situation.

Thanks LeeG, i'm going to try it this evening. Figured it had to be some setting to control just when a device is first switched on/off.

Maybe i'm not being clear, let me start over. My goal is to turn off my dining room light when I turn on my TV because i get a bad glare (plasma TV issue) as the dining room light is directly behind the TV. My devices are as follows: TV (using a synchrolinc) Dining Room Light Den Lamp Here is my program (the gist of it because i'm doing this off of memory): If: status TV= on AND status Dining Room Light = on Then: set status Dining Room Light = off set status Den Lamp = on $DR = 1 I then use the $DR variable to turn the light back on when the TV turns off in a different program, but that's not the issue. So when i turn on the TV my dining room light turns off, den light on, all is great in the world. BUT my issue is that while the TV is still on, say my wife needs to turn on the dining room light. When she turns that light on, it runs the program again because TV and Dining Room Light = on both become true again, and it turns it right off. So what I need is a way that when I turn on the TV it runs this program and turns off the dining room light, but if need be (say there is company over) that dining room light can be turned back on without the program then running again to turn it off. Thats why i was hoping I could find something instead of If: TV = on AND Dining Room Light = on There was something like if: TV status changes from off to on AND Dining Room Light = on That way it only runs the program when the TV is first turned on, then if the dining room light needs to be turned on while the TV is turned on, the program wont turn it back off again.

Actually think I found it in the Wiki I think I was trying the status node, but need to use the control node? i'll have to give it a shot tonight.

Thanks, but this is basically exactly what I have. My problem is the switched on/switched off commands. How do I do that? I use control TV "on" or control TV "off", so the entire time the TV is on it is running the program. I want the program to only be run 1 time when the TV is first turned on, then even while the TV is still on I can manipulate those lights anyway I want because the program ran and is done. So i want the program to only run when the TV is first switched on, not the entire time it is on, how do I do that?

Sorry this may be a newbie question, but I am a newbie to this automation fun stuff. My first program controls certain lights when I turn my TV on, including my dining room light. BUT I only want it to turn off that light when the TV first turns on, that way if that light is still actually needed (like there are guests there), it can be turned on by the physical switch. The current program I created checks if the TV is on and runs the program which turns off the light, and therefore keeps it off regardless of switch the entire time the TV is on. I want a way to run it only when the TV is turning on, not maintained the whole time it is on, can I do that? I am posting this from work, so I can't play with it right now (didn't turn on internet access yet), but the only thing I just thought about is disabling the program after the program runs, then when the TV is turned back off, reenabling the program. Is it possible to disable a program inside its own THEN statement? Thanks for the help, and I tried searching for this, but wasn't able to find the right commands to search for to get answers.
