My rationale for using scenes is that most of my switches are 3-way. Your comment about the difference between switches and scenes is something else I was troubleshooting today - why one of my switches didn't turn off when the scene turned off, and isy said it was off. Now it makes sense...so thanks for clarifying that issue! What is the preferred approach for having two insteon switches controlling a single light, if not scenes? I am also interested in being able to turn off all of my upstairs lights via an Alexa command. If you have another approach than Scenes, I am very interested. And lastly, can you give any hints how you'd write a program to interface isy with your wifi switches?

Thanks. I had tried that originally without success. I logged off the isy portal, and back in, and they are all now seen. Now I am finding that if I tell Alexa to discover devices, she finds the scenes that I've added in isy portal, but if I tell her to turn on or off the scene, she says it is not recognized. Similarly I don't see any scenes under devices in the Alexa app. I know I can do this with routines, but I would really like to control the scenes as I've created them in isy. Is this a known issue, or is there some easy work-around?

I created a new scene in the Admin UI, but I don't see it in the portal. I imagine there is some program that runs periodically to synch the two. Is there some way to manually force the update; or is there a known time frame for this update to happen? I've waited about 15 minutes and haven't seen it yet. Thanks, Eric

Thanks. I don't see any insteon devices available in Alexa. Is there some work-around that a motion detector vs light switch provides in Alexa? I do realize that if I keep this outside of isy, then I do lose some control, but was just more curious if there was a way to get this to work via the isy integrations with Alexa. I guess my current issue is not being able to see both the insteon hardware in the same place as the Amazon plug.

I am trying to control wifi devices (ie Amazon plug) via my insteon switches, and ultimately my Ring Doorbell 3. I found the following post that suggests using an alexa routine: https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/26568-how-do-i-use-wifi-plugs/, but I can't figure out how to create a routine around one of my Insteon devices, though I do have two switches already controllable via Alexa voice commands; and the following post suggesting to click on Smarthome >> Devices, but again I can't find this path in the Alexa app: https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/24751-using-isy-devices-as-triggers-with-alexa-routines/. I also can't figure out how to add anything Amazon-related into the isy admin console, is this doable, or does everything need to stay in isy portal, And Alexa app, and the only thing in isy Admin console is Insteon & Z-Wave? I am fairly technical, and have been using isy for years, but am brand new to the isy portal capabilities. Can anyone point me to documentation that might list step by step how to do this with the skill "ISY Optimized for Smart Home V3" on ios? While I have many things I'd like to do, for now, I will keep a fairly simple use case - I would like to use an insteon switch to turn on/off the Amazon Smart Plug. Thanks, Eric

The UI is currently at 4.2.18, it is the underlying firmware that I was referring to at 4.0.5. I only have two other programs, one turns on my hot water heater at 7AM, and the other turns it off at 11PM, and neither have anything to do with this light. As far as the program, I was told that this was the only way to get my KPL to update when I remotely turned on/off the vanity light. If there is another way to do this, please let me know. Also, is there a different way that I should check the state of the light and turn off? For example, if it is greater than 90% then turn on the KPL; or perhaps I am best to remove the dimmer and go with a switch. We have not had this problem since this one time, and hopefully it never happens again, but I'd love to figure out why it happened.

Yes this is a dimmer. The firmware is 4.0.5. I don't disagree with your comments; but how can I find out what else may have triggered this odd behavior? My biggest fear is that something similar happens when we are out of town, or my wife says that this platform is too unstable, and insists that we revert back to traditional light switches

If Status 'Master Bath - Vanity Light' is 100% Then Set Scene 'Master Bath - Vanity' On Else Set Scene 'Master Bath - Vanity' Off

I experienced an issue a couple weeks ago where I was out of town, and my wife called me to tell me that our bathroom lights were turning on and off, giving a strobe light effect. She said that the light switch would turn on and off and on and off, and it did this for over an hour until I told her to unplug and plug back in the isy994i unit, which solved the issue. Just now I thought I'd go back and see if I could find anything in the log, and sure enough, for the hour I found that every second the scene would turn on and off. What really concerns me about this situation is that if we were out of town for a long weekend, we could potentially have lights doing this for a prolonged period. Has anyone seen this? Is this a known issue with scenes. Are there any more detail logs that I might look at to identify the root cause? When this happened, I could not access the isy device remotely via Mobilinc. The purpose of the scene is just to keep the KPL in synch with the light switch. I was planning to setup other scenes to keep switches in synch with KPLs, but am now a little concerned. Here is an extract from the log file. Perhaps there needs to be a delay between the scene and the swicthing of the light switch? Thanks...it works perfectly, as you described. One final question on this subject. If I want to create a program to check once a day if everything is in synch, are there any tricks for this? If not, I will create multiple programs (one for each pair), and then set them all to run at 3AM, for example.
-
Thank you for all of the great information! Your assumption is correct, that I am using Mobilinc on my android (and soon to be ipad). I will plan to use Scenes rather individual controllers in the future. gweempose, you mention writing a program. Can you please give an example, as I was under the impression that programs did not work with the individual buttons on the KPL. EricK - Can you give an example of this monitoring program that you are referring to?

Thank you...I was turning the SwitchLinc on/off, and not the scene. Is there some way to configure the KPLs so that they will turn on/off depending on the state of the SwitchLinc? Also is there a possibility to create some program that I can run hourly to check the state of all KPLs to make sure that they are in synch with the relevant SwitchLincs?

I am in the process of changing from Vera to ISY994, and thus far am extremely impressed, but have a few issues I'm trying to work out. What I thought should be a very simple task, just doesn't seem to be. Before I get too creative, I want to be able to turn on/off a SwitchLinc (2477D) via my phone, and have the associated KPL (2486D) stay in synch. Currently the two are linked fine, so if I turn on the light via the SwitchLinc, the KPL (button C) turns on, and vice versa. But if I turn on the SwitchLinc with the phone, the KPL doesn't change state. I've read on many forums that it is not possible to use a program, which is too bad because it would then be a very easy solution. I did read that the only solution is to create a scene. I have tried all of the following without success. Perhaps there is some additional step that I need? SwitchLinc as controller, KPL as responder SwitchLinc as controller, KPL as controller SwitchLinch as responder, KPL as responder Thanks for any help that can be provided.
