Hi again- Turning on a 6-lamp chandelier with "dimmable" LED A19s. (New thread started to try to find actual dimmable A19s.) Incandescents dim fine. What else would I try to do with it that may not work? thx Andrew

Hi Paul! I tried both connection message. I'm not receiving any message from the ISY. Load... ah, not sure how to answer that, other than it's 120V, with Line, Load, Neutral, and Group. Switch turned on? Yes... Turned off & retried.. BINGO! Not sure why that would matter, but now I know. Thanks! Andrew

Hi, I installed a SmartHome 2466D switch and it works as expected manually; however, I can't seem to get my ISY to recognize it. I've added other Insteon devices without any issues. Any suggestions? Thanks, Andrew
-
Hey everyone, Did a factory reset before linking to the ISY, and I didn't change its setting after that.
-
Thanks! I really need to read up on this.

Trying to figure out, given: -8-scene Mini Remote -LampLinc Smart Plug how I can use the same button on the Mini Remote to turn a lamp on and off. Can that be done? thanks, Andrew

Bingo. (dots between.) Thanks guys.

Press and hold the Set Button at the base of the RemoteLinc2 until the LED starts flashing green (takes about 3 seconds) The Insteon address is on a sticker on the back of the RemoteLinc2. After the nodes are added to the ISY press the set button on the RL2 twice to quit linking mode. There is something missing here, but I assume it would just be telling us to enter the address, without dashes, because with dashes, as printed, it returns an error that the address is not formatted correctly; nonetheless, I enter the address, and nothing happens. Further, after pressing the set button twice, the green light only flashes differently; it doesn't seem to quit linking mode.

Hi All- Brian - yes, correct.

Hi all- I've searched high and low and followed different procedures, but cannot seem to link up my remote: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LIH2Y8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I've followed the directions found here. And here. I am able to control my Insteon switches directly, using the remote, without any issues. So... what am I missing? Probably something easy, but you never know...
-
Ah yes - Ok, thanks. I know that our house has at least 2 - our wiring is weird - but now I know what you mean. I do plan on expanding (one thing at a time... see comment regarding remote!) but it's very helpful to know that. thanks.
-
Update... tried linking remote directly to dimmer plug - worked fine.
-
Ok, thanks... trying it now. Gotta say - should be plug and play at this point. "Bridging power legs"... not sure what that is, so hopefully what should be a smooth install won't spin out of control here... Will let you know how it goes! [edit] Step 1... ok, that worked perfectly! Now, to see if I can get the remote added... [edit 2] No luck with the remote. I've followed the directions found here. And here. cheers Andrew

lol... well, that makes me feel better. Thanks.

Ok... following up. Got the 2413S, though I'm not home Read the instructions which say: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Ensure PowerLinc Modem is not plugged into your computer 2) Plug PowerLinc Modem into an AC wall outlet 3) Plug clear end of included DB-9 serial cable into PowerLinc Modem’s interface port 4) Plug black end of cable into an available serial port on your PC PowerLinc Modem is now ready ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question is this: #4 says plug into available serial port on PC... ?? Then later, under tips: "If computer’s serial port is shared with another hardware device (scanner, PDA, etc.) be sure to turn off that device’s program on the PC. If left running, the home automation software will not be able to communicate with PowerLinc Modem." WTF? PDA?? Might be easier if I were there, but I'm simply not following this. Am I missing something here?

Everything else has been Z-wave! : ) Never had any Insteon devices before receiving them yesterday.
-
Ok, maybe that's the problem - I assumed the ISY would cover this... I don't have that. So, off to buy a a 2413S PLM... I suppose. Looks like it's getting pretty poor reviews.

Hi everyone, Just received 3 things: 1) Insteon Outdoor Smart Plug, On/Off 2) LampLinc Smart Plug 3) Mini Remote Control Keypad, 8-Scene I've followed what instructions I could find (including entering the Insteon device ID), and various drop-down menu items, but can't seem to get anything to happen (except beeping from the plug)... I must be doing something wrong, but it's not working... setting up Z-wave stuff is instantaneous. Any help appreciated. thx Andrew

Thanks guys - sounds good. Quick follow up - I saw this in the review for this remote: "I purchased this to control the brick-like proportioned fan controller recently released (2475F). It does a great job in general, however it's documentation is very poor. I re-read it 3 times to confirm my disbelief in just how unhelpful it was. There are features to it that make no sense, and when you combine it with attempting to integrate controlling devices with it and a ISY-99i, things just get stranger. It can run in two modes, I just wanted it to be a simple assignment of each button to each function I wanted it to perform. However in the mode you have to run it in, it tells the ISY that the particular button you're using is either on or off according to the ISY and it's status monitoring. For example: I have it set-up where button A is light off, and button B is light on. Well, button A and button b have on and off status of their own, so when you look at the status of the switch in something like mobil linc, it tells you that status. That's no good when trying to figure out what's on or off in your house. Instead you have to look at the device itself being controlled and it's status. The other complexity this introduces, is you have to design your programs to be switch status agnostic. In other words, button press A = light off, no matter the actual switch status." Can anyone comment on this? Seems a bit more complicated than I would expect.

Thanks - will do.

Good morning people, Just realized: I posted this in the Insteon forum. I have the Universal Devices ISY994i ZW INSTEON/Z-Wave Automation Controller. I also have the Insteon 2413S PowerLinc Modem INSTEON Dual-Band Serial Interface... But, so far, I've only been using the Z-wave functionality, and only have Z-wave devices installed. Can I use this remote to control the Z-wave stuff? Thanks again! Andrew

Thanks Teken! Should have mentioned... no cords allowed Hang on - is this it?

Hi all! I'm looking for a wall-mounted remote to be used for the purpose of shutting off a number of lights I have set to go on when we're out in the evening. Ideally, I'd like to be able to activate this program with the switch, so for example, we can just start the program when we're leaving instead of at sundown or whatever. Any recommendations? Thank you! Andrew

Ok, duh... finally solved by calling in. IP in port forwarding was off by 1 digit and I wasn't looking carefully. (slinks away)

Thanks Larry- I have the "s" in there but still no dice. Regarding camera - are you saying to use something other than 443 (or I assume 80 or 8080 and whatever other "not recommended" ports there are) for this stuff? If so - goes back to my question about how to select the "best" ports to use.
