  1. Thanks for the replies. I know this is pretty much a network reconfiguration issue.

I Recently Added an Orby mesh network in my home. If I keep the ISY plugged into my modem directly, everything works and I can see the admin console. However, if I plug the ISY Into my primary network that is after the Orbi, I lose the ability to access the admin console or to see the ISY through the portal.

I have a recent backup from the admin console that I can restore if and when I can figure out how to access the admin console with the ISY installed thru the mesh.

  2. Looking for some help.  A couple switches needed replacing and now I’m trying to update my programs in admin. My isy99i seems to be working fine since I can use the portal and the mobile app to control my lights. However, I cannot seem to see or login to the local admin console. I can ping my local IP for the ISY and it replies. If I try accessing the admin console from the Internet, it does not seem to accept my credentials. when I use the local Start Java applet it does not see the ISY. I’ve tried resetting the password, but I still did not see the ISY. Any advice?

  3. Finally got around to purchasing some I3 outlets from the insteon shop to replace some old insteon outlets that failed. I added the new outlet to my admin console (ISY 5.3.4) and it seems to only control the top outlet. Is that to be expected or is there a way i can also control the bottom outlet independently too using the admin console?

Thank you for the update. Good to see it is functioning OK.

This is from an I/OLinc Hardware Revision V2.3, firmware 41. If yours is newer it could be different.

On mine pushing the Set button to toggle the relay. Does not send a signal back to the ISY994i. So it will have no idea you used the local Set Button. To trigger any program.

I think you are correct about the i/oLinc. :( I am still considering how to set this up. I could also swap out the i/olinc with an Ecobee which i use in the rest my house. But i would prefer to have the heater function ON/OFF instead of using the thermostat function of the Ecobee.  I sort of want it to work like a bathroom fan timer (but with remote control ability).

  5. Got everything wired up and so far so good!  Thanks for the tips.  The ioLinc is controlling the Aube which is turning the electric heater on and off.

Now i can try use the ISY to create a program to operate the iOLinc. Specifically, i want the heater to automatically turn itself off after a period of time. My concern is that i forget i turned it on and it runs for days before i notice and has a huge electric bill. So, i am thinking of a program that just sends an OFF command to the iOlinc every 2-4 hours or so?

Right now you enter the garage and click the little 'set' button on the ioLink to turn the heater on (or tell Alexa to turn it on). So then the ISY program would turn it off on some repeating cycle. And if i am in there and still want the heater on, i just click the ioLinc again.  At least thats my idea....I also have an extra motionlinc so i suppose the OFF program could delay itself if it has senses motion?  Seems like a few ways to skin this cat....

just looked at the aube unit.  that has the 24volt transformer built in.  so you can use that themostat you quoted, and hook that between the iolinc and the aube.

Aube low voltage side (screw terminals) W to IOlinc Common,  IOlink NO  to thermostat W,  Thermostat R to aube R.

thermostat and heat active when the IOlinc is on

Then connect the heater to the 240 side of the aube as labled on the device

Thank you. That makes sense (in print at least). I shall see how it goes in practice! Cheers.

It is my understanding that your heater is a 240 electric heater.  so you will need a line voltage thermostat like https://www.homedepot.com/p/Cadet-Double-Pole-22-Amp-120-Volt-240-Volt-Wall-Mount-Mechanical-Non-programmable-Thermostat-in-White-T522-W/303733757

does the heater have a built in thermostat?  what is the model of your heater

It is a Farenheat Electric one. I bought the Aube thing since its a low voltage to 240 contactor (? might be getting terms confused). I believe i can simply wire the Aube direct to the i/o Linc (or an Ecobee for example). Basically the I/O link triggers the Aube which then turns on the heater.

If you connect the output of the contactor (controlled by iolinc)to the input of the thermostat (can be old school mechanical) and the output of the thermostat to the heater....

In order for the Heater to receive power,  1.  The contactor controlled by iolinc must be on.  AND  the room has to be below your set temperature.

This configuration will only apply power when you want it, and the room is actually cold enough to need heat

Makes sense. May i ask what type of thermostat you suggest? Do you mean any old one like this?

If you go the route of the iolink control, I would at least have an old school thermostat in line with the heater, set to your desired temperature.  save energy by not overheating the room, and if something failed and the iolink did not turn off at least the themostat would limit the room temperature to a nominal temp and not a runaway temperature.

    I like this thinking.

I understand most thermostats will kick on and start at a set base temp. However, i do not want this heater going on unless i tell it to go on. There will be many below freezing days that i do not want it to turn on. So i am not sure a thermostat can do that for me?

  10. So now i am waffling between connecting the AUBE to an Ecobee thermstat or connecting the Aube to an Insteon ioLinc.  My goal is to create a way that i can turn on the electric heater in the garage when i want to work in there (we currently use Alexa to control our insteon devices which is wonderful...so, saying something like "Alexa turn on the garage heater for an hour").

But i want to make it where the heater will always 'timeout' and turn itself off in case i forget to turn it off. Almost like putting it on a timer switch.  Basically if I or my wife forget to turn it off, i don't want it running endlessly and driving up huge electric bills.

So i suppose if i use the ioLinc then i can create a program in the ISY to check if its on every hour and if so then turn it off? Or something like that? But then there would be no thermostat. Which might be okay.

    Thoughts?

I use an Aube RC840T-240 hanging off the side of my electrical panel.  It can be controlled by any dry contact relay (such as an IOLinc) since it has a built-in 24V transformer to power it's contactor.

I will trying to install the Aube that you suggested on the Farenheat Electric Garage heater . I also like the idea of using the IOlink. I currently have one on the garage door opener that works well.

Can you provide any tips/tricks/directions for wiring the Aube - Heater - IO Linc? Seems like a winner.

  12. Not sure if this is a good place for this post but here goes....

Currently i am insulating and finishing off my detached 2 car garage. I am going to install a 240 volt electric space heater on the ceiling. My entire house and garage are already filled with Insteon Switches that i program and control with the ISY. Love it.

I would love some remote control ability of the garage heater so i can easily turn it on/off from inside the house. To warm up the garage workshop ahead of walking out to it.

I see there used to be an Insteon 240 load center. But its no longer available.Kind of clueless as to my options for this. Any ideas/suggestions?

  13. So right now i have the  ISY99i/IR (1030).   There is no power supply connected to it.  It is connected to the PLM and my switch directly.

Although i am not using IR much with it right now, I would like to try again when I get the new ISY (I also have a global cache setup on my system).

So I am looking at your UDI store for the ISY upgrade path.  This would be appropriate correct? ISY994i/IR PRO (UPGRADE) for $145?

    TIA.

  14. Hi there,

I have been using the ISY99i/IR for years now. With dark winter coming its my typical time of year to replace a bunch of my insteon dimmers that continue to have paddle-up issues and attempt some new programs (to drive my wife crazy). i have replaced these dimmers many times.  Most are v35 or newer (v38, v40, etc.)  O well...with an entire house full of Insteon, I have no alternative. I am in for life.  Anyway that's my problem not yours.

But i too just got the certificate error and luckily found this thread so i can access the admin console.  I would like to upgrade my ISY using the upgrade price. But I am confused as to which new ISY to get?  I would like to use my Harmony1 to trigger some scenes using IR if possible.

Can you direct me to the correct  product or products? Or do i simple choose between the 99$ and the 145$?  And finally, can you give me a coupon to lessen my pain? :)

Thanks. Still love my ISY after years!

  15. So I seem to be really missing the "link" with regards to getting a program to work with an insteon motion sensor for room occupancy (bad pun intended).

Can anyone give me some tips as to what jumpers to set on the motion sensor AND what options for the motion sensor to set in ISY (Night Mode, Sensor Mode, etc. none of this stuff is in wiki)?

I am trying to setup a basic room occupancy program for my bathroom (for testing really). There are two lights (ceiling light and mirror lights). I am trying to create a program like this:

If the motion sensor senses motion
    AND
both lights are currently OFF (or not ON I guess)
    AND
    it is nighttime

    THEN
    set mirror light to 50%

    THEN
turn off BOTH lights about 1 minute after a person leaves the room (or the motion sensor stops sensing motion)

Seems so simple but I am struggling! I had a hard time in Logic....

  16. Hi all,

So now I am trying to execute some basic REST control of my insteon devices from a web browser. I have upgraded to the latest ISY beta 2.8.4

My ISY has a static IP on my network.

I have the device ID of a test Insteon switchlinc device (12.5A.25).

Could you tell me in the simplest way how to try out a basic REST connection to turn the light ON/OFF?

I have been trying (in Chrome, FF, IE) this with no joy:

    http://admin:admin@MY ISY IP:MY ISY PORT/rest/nodes/12%205A%2025/cmd/DON

both with and without the %20 with no luck. I got a 404 error.

Any tips on just making sure i can execute a REST command?

  17. So I have had an ISY99 for awhile and am trying to interface it with the Irule Ipad app. I have been searching these forums about the REST interface and I wonder if the ISY99i/IR I have is capable of receiving the REST style commands from the Irule or do I need the ISY 'web server' upgrade or something? I am running 2.7.15

Is anyone using Irule by chance with their ISY? I would love it if someone could help me get it working.

    TIA.

    Sean

  18. I have a bunch of sonos equipment and the ISY99. I think i may be having some port issues. I set a static IP for my ISY. And I am forwarding TCP/UDP ports 443 to the ISY's static IP.

But I believe sonos also uses port 80 as does ISY for HTTP. Can I change the HTTP and HTTPS ports that ISY uses (I see that i can in the configure page). If so, are there some safe and recommended ports to use for the ISY that wouldnt conflict with other devices?
