  1. Got my Raspberry Pi up and running and save for a brain **** on the Harmony account information, ISYHelper is running. Thanks for the help. My next steps are to: 1. Setup ISYHelper to run at bootup 2. Remove control of the Harmony through the Amazon Echo/IFTTT/Harmony path 3. Learn the control of the Harmony through the Amazon Echo/ISY path It's been real fun re-kindling my Unix experience. Good for the brain
  2. Thanks for the added information Xathros and Jim. I'll start searching for the instructions from io_guy.
  3. Ok, thanks Jim. Like I said, I'm happy to learn. But I need to setup a Raspberry Pi, install ISYHelper and configure things. Is there a tutorial for that? Would make a great Youtube tutorial video Also, do I get better spoken words via ISYHelper? I think with Echo via the ISY portal, I can only say "Turn On" or "Turn Off". I'd like to be able to say things like "Change the channel to ..." or "Show me my record programs" (like off my DVR). I could actually use the Echo to Harmony directly with "Trigger CNN" or "Trigger Netflix". Or am I wrong on better syntax with ISYHelper?
  4. Since I've started to greatly expand my home automation, I feel lost in the realm of available ways to talk to the ISY and other smart devices. So, after starting with the basics of scenes and programs, I: 1. Graduated to controlling my devices via the Mobilinc app using the "ISY Series" as the host controller instead of the MobiLinc Connect controller as that was an extra cost. 2. I then added iBeacons and geolocations to my control via MobiLinc for smarter control of two garage doors. 3. While I started to use IFTTT for notifications about my home status, I switched over to Pushover which literally has no latency issues like IFTTT 4. Next I setup my ISY portal to use with the Amazon Echo and setup my spoken commands to control the home 5. I'm now working on integrating my Home Theater control via the Harmony Hub/IFTTT/Amazon Echo as a start, with the goal of bypassing IFTTT 6. To bypass IFTTT for the Harmony control, it appears I have to setup a Raspberry Pi and install ISYHelper (which will be a bit of a learning curve, here) In my quest to do more, I am now at the point that I don't know the advantages or disadvantages of MobiLinc Connect vs the ISY Portal. And do I need a Raspberry Pi to control the Harmony without the need for IFTTT? Is it me or does MobiLinc and ISY have overlap? It seems that I either use the ISY portal or the MobiLinc Connect. Why? And with Amazon adding features to Echo, it appears my decision process is muddied. Once I get past Home Theater control via Amazon Echo, I intend to integrate: 1. A new security system (Elk, being the only choice?) 2. SmartLocks 3. Thermostat control 4. Etc.... So I need to take a step back and make sure I've planned my base tools properly. Is there some sort of chart comparing the various ways of available command and control of my smarthome via apps, portals and Pi's? Should I use MobiLinc Connect instead of ISY Series? Do I need a Pi? Is ISY Helper there because ISY Portal is still ever evolving? I don't mind the time and effort to learn these things. Heck, if I did I would have gone for Apple's HomeKit route, but that is way limiting. I'm happy to challenge my brain.
  5. Ok. Good to know. Thanks. More learning
  6. Alas, I am on iOS, so ISY Helper is not for me. So far, this is working good (thanks Stu ). TV is not working as well as "television". Still playing around with spoken words. Also think I might use Echo->Harmony directly for channel selection since it would seem to be a bit more natural to say "Trigger CBS" as opposed to "Turn on CBS" if I go the ISY route.
  7. Awesome, thanks.
  8. Just got my Harmony Companion and Hub all setup. Going to start with using IFTTT with the Echo and ISY fully aware of latency with IFTTT. I will graduate to restful-harmony when I get time to learn "all that stuff". Right now, just trying to do something quick. I do have a few questions with the IFTTT path I am taking. I have currently setup the following: 1. Added Harmony channel to IFTTT, linking to my Harmony account 2. Setup network resources on the ISY to send "WatchTV" or "TurnOffTV" activities 3. Setup recipes with Maker to receive ISY network resource commands and control Harmony activities 4. Setup programs to call the network resources (for ISY portal / Amazon Echo) So, my issue is the spoken words for something as simple as "turn on tv/turn off tv". 1. The Harmony has a WatchTV activity and a Power Off AV activity. 2. I want to be able to say "Alexa, turn on TV" or "Alexa, turn off TV". 3. So, the spoken word is "tv" but with two separate actions. 4. How do I add that to the echo list in the ISY portal? I was wanting to use a program, but don't know how on and off are handled in a single program. Or is that the wrong way? Sorry if this was a bit winded, but I think I'm missing something pretty obvious. Thanks, Amro
  9. Thanks for the replies. Tried to reply sooner but I couldn't get to this forum earlier. Michael, thanks for the explanation. I learned something new. Amro
  10. My router (Asus RT-AC68U) has UPnP enabled. However, I setup a Port Forward as follows: Service Name: ISY PortRange: 443 Local IP: ISY IP address (ISY is setup as DHCP, but in the router, I manually assign an IP address to the ISY) Local Port: 443 Protocol: TCP
  11. I'm starting to get more into my ISY, the ISY Portal, Amazon Echo and IFTTT and having a lot of fun with it. I'm now to the point of reading the error log and trying to understand the errors to see if I need to fix anything. I got the ISY last May and just now looked at my error log. I dumped it to the computer and cleared it out because it was huge. So, as of yesterday, I have this: Wed 2016/02/03 12:07:23 AM System -110012 /CONF/INSTENG.OPT Wed 2016/02/03 12:07:24 AM System -170001 [Network] Established Wed 2016/02/03 12:59:26 AM System -5006 uuid:26 Wed 2016/02/03 07:09:49 AM System -5012 35 Wed 2016/02/03 07:14:43 AM System -5012 37 Wed 2016/02/03 09:40:59 AM System -5012 41 Wed 2016/02/03 09:53:41 AM System -5012 42 Wed 2016/02/03 12:07:23 PM System -100 [DHCP] state=RENEW Wed 2016/02/03 04:19:14 PM System -5012 51 Wed 2016/02/03 04:21:19 PM System -5012 52 Wed 2016/02/03 05:07:29 PM System -5012 53 Wed 2016/02/03 05:46:07 PM System -5012 55 Wed 2016/02/03 05:46:24 PM System -5006 uuid:56 Wed 2016/02/03 05:47:24 PM System -5012 57 Wed 2016/02/03 05:48:07 PM System -5012 58 Wed 2016/02/03 05:51:13 PM System -5006 uuid:59 Wed 2016/02/03 07:35:16 PM System -170001 [HTTP:0-28-5] 192.168.1.30:54923->80 Wed 2016/02/03 07:35:16 PM System -170001 [HTTP:0-28]: POST[1]-->/services Wed 2016/02/03 07:35:16 PM System -170001 <s:Envelope><s:Body><u:SetDebugLevel xmlns:u="u Wed 2016/02/03 07:37:48 PM System -5006 uuid:64 Wed 2016/02/03 07:37:53 PM System -5006 uuid:65 Wed 2016/02/03 07:39:32 PM System -5012 66 Wed 2016/02/03 07:45:36 PM System -5006 uuid:67 Wed 2016/02/03 07:46:13 PM System -5006 uuid:69 Wed 2016/02/03 07:46:18 PM System -5006 uuid:70 Wed 2016/02/03 07:48:20 PM System -5006 uuid:71 Wed 2016/02/03 07:48:25 PM System -170001 [uDSockets] RSub:27 error:6 Wed 2016/02/03 07:48:30 PM System -170001 [uDSockets] RSub:27 error:6 Wed 2016/02/03 07:48:35 PM System -170001 [uDSockets] RSub:27 error:6 I read the manual so I know that 5012 says "UPNP subscriber didn't reply to the event:couldn't write header". But what does this mean and what do I do to debug/fix it? 5006 says "UPNP SUBSCRIPTION NOT FOUND FOR CANCELATION". Again, what do I do to debug/fix this. 170001 I understand to be informational and not an error except that the last 3 are saying the same thing with an error code. I don't know if this has anything to do with the ISY portal, IFTTT or Amazon Echo. Would like some guidance on interpreting and fixing this. Thanks, Amro
