I'm in the market for cameras and have been looking at both the Foscam and Insteon cameras. I have read that comparable models are the same or almost the same, Smarthome just re-brands Foscam units. Are they the same or is there a difference? Are the SD and HD indoor and outdoor SmartHome Insteon cameras strictly IP H.264 cameras and don't actually have any Insteon functions? Do they repeat Insteon RF signals? Can they be polled for their status via Insteon? Can they send Insteon commands when they sense motion? Can any of their functions be controlled by Insteon commands? My suspicion is that everyone (SmartHome, UD, etc) is controlling their cameras over the IP network. I do believe there are cameras that have Z-Wave functions integrated into them.

1. definitely on a budget 2. just want to know if someone I know is at the door 3. doesn't have to have good night vision, porch is always lit at night (automated, dimmed after 11 pm) My local Menard's store has the INSTEON 75790WH Wireless Security IP Camera with Pan, Tilt and Night Vision on sale for $59. Is that worth picking up to see how far it will get me for starters?

Stealthiness and size are not a concern Our front door has a large art glass pane in it and my wife would like to see who is there without going to the door. Thanks for your input, I'll look in to some of the PoE cameras

I am looking for recommendations for a camera to view people at my front door. Does not need to be weatherproof (large front porch, camera mounting location doesn't get wet, does get cold - Michigan) Motion detection Record on motion Would like to configure smart phone notifications on motion detection but only when ISY system is in designated states. i.e. Away or Nighttime Notifications via email or SMS or IFTTT Link in notification to live viewing on computer or mobile device ISY controller supports Insteon, X10, and Z-Wave Ranch house with full basement - can easily run wires if needed

Michael, if you don' t mind me asking, what was it about the Insteon 2441TH that you didn't like? I'm in the market for a thermostat and Smarthome.com has refurbed 2441TH units for $39. I have the Z-Wave module in my ISY so I know I have a lot of options but none are nearly as low cost as that. -- Jim
