  1. Thanks very much for your insights, Techman! I replaced the Cat 6 cable to the PLM, restored it from the eISY, and things have been running well again for a week! Best, Lee
  2. Hi, folks. Sorry if this is not posted to the correct forum. I have around 100 Insteon devices connecting to my EISY and I recently have been having some strange things happen. I am wondering if someone might help me with things to try. Everything had been running great for many months if not over a year. Recently, some things started seeming to become temporarily inaccessible the the system and not responding as they should at times. I attached a photo of one recurring offender with a red !. Usually, doing a Query makes it come back for a while. This is happening to a few devices over and over. I have done factory resets on the switches/outlets in question. I have done "Restore Device" commands. I have reflashed the EISY to the current version of 5.8.4 and my PG3x is 3.2.27. I have run the Upgrade Packages command and rebooted the EISY. I have done a Restore Modem (PLM) command. I have done a main "Restore Devices" command. I even restored the EISY from a backup that was prior to the issues starting. I do also have a few Polyglots running and the USB > Z-wave adapter I got from UD. There are several Z-Wave devices connected, but not seem to have issues. I have not yet tried a factory reset on the PLM or swapping another one, and have not factory reset the EISY. I am just trying to figure out what is getting flakey here. Some of the misbehaving devices have clamed down, but others continue to get goofy. There are a number of switches and outlets that have had issues recently. Am I wrong in thinking the PLM might be having some communication issues? Any way I can get a better idea of how to pin point it or other things the experts here might suggest I try to do or do again? Thanks so much in advance! Lee
  3. Thanks very much, Dennis! Lee
  4. Hi folks, anyone have any insights on these errors? I log in to AC, immediately get the updated packages message (I have tried to update several times), then I am prompted to log in again, then a get a slew of the "Event Received For a Different Subscription; Restart!" errors. I have restarted IoX, rebooted, etc. Polyglot 3 is also not letting me in. TIA, Lee
  5. I am seeing this as well under 5.5.7.
  6. Got it and installed. Still playing around with things a good bit. Would you mind sharing how you have yours configured and any scene or program info with which you have had success? I am using this in a powder room in place of a Lutron occupancy sensor. I played with having it in manual mode and using the motion state to give a turn on command and timed turn off all from esy. I tried a scene with a related program. Moderate success, but not perfect at all. I then went back to occupancy mode on the Jasc switch, set a long timeout, and have a program doing a shut off based on time elapsed without motion. It works so-so. I see there seems to be two sets of motion sensors and switches reported through the Z-wave connection. Perhaps one logical and one physical? Again, still playing around. Limited documentation found so far. Thanks again! Lee
  7. Thanks, Shawn! I will check them out right away. Cheers, Lee
  8. What method did you use to update? I looked in the mobile app and see 5.5.6 available for my eisy.
  9. Yeah, it would be nice to see some additional, quality options for such an animal out there, but excited to get this one tomorrow and have something new with which to play!
  10. Thanks very much! I had look and this was the only option I found. Just ordered it. Lee
  11. Hi Folks! I just ordered a ZMatter USB dongle for my eisy and want to look at purchasing some compatible devices. Specifically, I am looking for items that three-prong power corded devices can be plugged into and turned on/off, temperature sensors, and possibly motion sensors. I am open to multi-function units as well. Can anyone suggest what specifications are best to look for when choosing things to work with the ZMatter USB unit? Any specific brands and models with which you have seen good results and ones to avoid? Thanks very much in advance, Lee
  12. Thanks so much again, MrBill! Very kind of you to spend the time and share your expertise. Much appreciated! I will try what you suggested today. Also, I feel the need to share this picture of our dog and her favorite toy. It actually says "Ohhh Nooo!" when squeezed!
  13. OK, an update on all of this. I moved the water heater that has the powered blower on it to another outlet that is on another circuit. The issue persisted. I was in the basement this morning looking to see if the outlet was off as there was no hot water and eisy was showing the pump was on. It was actually not. I manually turned it on, and when the water heater happened to kick on while I was standing there, the outlet turned back off! It was still reporting being on with eisy. So, should I understand that there may be power line interference caused by the water heater kicking on that somehow makes the Insteon outlet believe it should turn off and not report back to eisy that it is off? I did order a 10-amp FilterLinc today on eBay. I will try plugging the water heater into the filtered outlet when it gets here. Also, I have another gremlin that turns the lights on in my balcony area periodically. There are about 8 switches associated with that scene. They do all come on when those lights turn on by themselves. Do you think it is possible power line noise could be causing that too? Thanks! Lee
  14. Awesome, thanks again! Lee
  15. Great thinking, thanks! I did just check and it looks like that outlet is on its own breaker. So only the water heater and water pump are on it. Without knowing the way the communications work, it surprises me that eisy would show the outlet for the water pump being on when it is not. I would be expecting it to have to receive some kind of acknowledgment message back from the outlet before it would say it was on, but I am novice in that aspect to Insteon. When I looked again, the outlet box is less than 1' away from the breaker box. Also, I can potentially move the water heater to another outlet. It is also nearby, but that would put it on another circuit. Think it is worth a shot? If I do want to try a noise filter, I am assuming I would be plugging it in between the water heater and to whatever outlet it is connected? Do you have a suggestion for a filter? Thanks again! I am excited to have new things to try. Lee
  16. Hi MrBill, and thanks so much for your time to respond and provide this info! To clarify, it works correctly about 90% of the time or better. The outlet is located about 2' away from the main breaker box for the house. The water pump is on the top outlet and gas water heater with blower is on the bottom one. HVAC is about 6' away from the outlet. In terms of other Insteon network devices in proximity, there are four switches, a couple of outdoor model outlets (that are indoors), another indoor outlet, and four older-model motion detectors that are all within about 20' of the outlet in question. That outlet might be the only think on that breaker, but I will have to check to be sure. I will endeavor to enable Event Viewer as you suggested. Any and all further thoughts are most welcome.
  17. Hi Folks! I have a long-standing issue on which I am hoping to gain some expert insights. I have an Insteon network with over 100 devices and had an issue occur periodically on an isy 994i that also happens on my new eisy. I am using a 2663-222 v4.4 outlet with a hot water circulation pump. I have the pump turn on by way of a when motion is detected in showers, the kitchen, etc. When scenes turn on in those areas, programs set state variables to be "1" for them. Another program looks for a value of "1" in any of those areas using OR conditions and turn on the pump while any are set to "1." Another program uses an AND condition to look for all of the areas to be set to "0," and once they all are, the pump turns off. I think all of that is working as it should. The issue is that eisy shows the switch as being on, and sometimes it is not actually on. The problem? Cold water while in the shower! Brrrrr! I have boosted the retries to "5" and even created an Amazon Echo command where I can turn it on by voice. My question is, has anyone experience Insteon outlets showing as being on in Administrative Console when they are not actually on at the outlet itself? Any suggestions of other things to try or data I might provide? Thanks very much in advance! This has been a long-standing gremlin. Best, Lee
  18. Hi Folks, I have been using UD for a number of years and have over 100 Insteon devices in my home. I now run an eisy, and am looking to get into temperature sensors and possibly light switches that contain motion sensors. I'd like to avoid battery devices as much as possible as have more batteries to swap out than I care to going forward, but I am very open to all ideas battery-powered or not. What have you used and seen good luck with reliability, usefulness, and compatibility? I am also wondering if there are any advantages or disadvantages among the various Insteon PLM models where one might be faster or better than another. I am currently running a serial version and have adapted a headshell and connected to USB on the eisy. It works fine, but I am always looking for what works best. Thanks in advance for any expert guidance on these items. Dr. S
  19. Thanks very much for the speedy reply and education! Dr. S
  20. Thanks so much for the speedy reply! After trying this no less than 25 times, it finally worked! I cannot say that I did anything different the last time, but things finally happened and it connected via WiFi. Now, I am seeing that this whole routine was not needed as the RJ-45 port was not for my modem anyway. Ha! Make an assumption as they say... lol. I would have been happier to have something ask me on the order form if I planned to use an Insteon PLM and tell me to add it to the order so that I would not have to wait and pay shipping twice, but at least this is progress and I am learning. I will check out the USB conversion kit you mentioned. I am glad that I will not have to rely on Wifi for this. MUCH BETTER to be on Ethernet! Thanks again, Dr. S
  21. Hi folks! Have there been any updates beyond what is in this thread for getting Wifi configured on an EISY using an iPhone? I was surprised to see there is only a single RJ-45 port on the EISY when it showed up today. I am an Insteon user and need a port for the PLM. I really hate the idea of using Wifi with this, but it looks like there is no other option. I have been trying for several hours to get this to work to no avail. Using the app, when I try to add a new system, it presents icons for ISY, Polisy, and EISY. In picking EISY, and choose Wi-Fi and then Continue, it seems to get stuck in a loop and goes back to having to tell it to add a new system over and over. If I uninstall the app, and reinstall it, it does get further in the process, but ends up erroring out and saying "UD Mobile could not connect to eisy's WiFi access point." It suggests connecting manually which also seems to get me no where. I have tried this on an iPad and an iPhone 13 Max running the current OS. The app version is the current one. I do not have an android phone to try. The only way I have been able to talk to it thus far is via ethernet cable. I have done factory resets on the unit as well. I tried using WebOS on my LG TV and its browser to enter the command after connecting to the access point mode and it did not work. What else can I do here? Is there any way to connect a keyboard and HDMI monitor and enter some commands at a LINUX command prompt? Thanks, Lee Silverman
  22. Hi Folks! I had tried VoiceMonkey for this in the past and had some success, but was not wild about having to connect to yet another Alexa skill and they are now charging for the text-to-speech level of service. Today I found that I could get Alexa to speak custom messages based on the basic states of devices in ISY. It is amazingly simple and seems to work pretty well so far. No cryptic stings to send or anything beyond using menus in ISY Admin Console and the Alexa app, which in my case is on iOS. Here is an example: 1. In ISY admin console, I pick a device. Let's say a TriggerLinc v.43 sensor I have on my mailbox door. I go into the Notes for it, and set the Location and Spoken to be Mailbox Sensor. When I do this, Mobilinc has it immediately discovered as a new Alexa device. 2. I next go into the Alexa app for iOS, Routines, add a routine called Mailbox Announcement, set When This Happens > Smart Home > Mailbox Sensor> Open, and Add action > Alexa Says > Customized > Your Mailbox has just opened. > Choose Device > (whatever Echo should voice the announcement) > Save. Thats's it. Really simple. No sending strings, passwords, etc. Just simple, high-level settings letting conditions yield automatically-spoke notifications to Alexa. Unlike the NotifyMe skill, this one just speaks without you having to ask what the notification is. Am I late to the party and everyone else already knew this? Perhaps it works with the ISY Optimized for Smart Home skill as well? Cheers! Dr. Lee
  23. This is great! I will try it shortly. Thanks very much for sharing! I did get it working with IFTTT, but would much rather do this directly and have the possibility to sending an image to display on the echo show screen other than the Monkey. I had asked their support a couple questions and they are very slow to respond. Nice enough person, but I think it is mostly a hobby and nice that that they made this available. The voice quality is quite good. I did also learn that if you want the announcements to go across multiple Echo Show devices, you make an Alexa App routine for each one. I have a bunch of Echo Shows around my house and it is nice to have it on all of them. There is a little delay between them, but it is still pretty cool and it is free! :)
