Hi Folks, I have been using UD for a number of years and have over 100 Insteon devices in my home. I now run an eisy, and am looking to get into temperature sensors and possibly light switches that contain motion sensors. I'd like to avoid battery devices as much as possible as have more batteries to swap out than I care to going forward, but I am very open to all ideas battery-powered or not. What have you used and seen good luck with reliability, usefulness, and compatibility? I am also wondering if there are any advantages or disadvantages among the various Insteon PLM models where one might be faster or better than another. I am currently running a serial version and have adapted a headshell and connected to USB on the eisy. It works fine, but I am always looking for what works best. Thanks in advance for any expert guidance on these items. Dr. S

Thanks so much for the speedy reply! After trying this no less than 25 times, it finally worked! I cannot say that I did anything different the last time, but things finally happened and it connected via WiFi. Now, I am seeing that this whole routine was not needed as the RJ-45 port was not for my modem anyway. Ha! Make an assumption as they say... lol. I would have been happier to have something ask me on the order form if I planned to use an Insteon PLM and tell me to add it to the order so that I would not have to wait and pay shipping twice, but at least this is progress and I am learning. I will check out the USB conversion kit you mentioned. I am glad that I will not have to rely on Wifi for this. MUCH BETTER to be on Ethernet! Thanks again, Dr. S

Hi folks! Have there been any updates beyond what is in this thread for getting Wifi configured on an EISY using an iPhone? I was surprised to see there is only a single RJ-45 port on the EISY when it showed up today. I am an Insteon user and need a port for the PLM. I really hate the idea of using Wifi with this, but it looks like there is no other option. I have been trying for several hours to get this to work to no avail. Using the app, when I try to add a new system, it presents icons for ISY, Polisy, and EISY. In picking EISY, and choose Wi-Fi and then Continue, it seems to get stuck in a loop and goes back to having to tell it to add a new system over and over. If I uninstall the app, and reinstall it, it does get further in the process, but ends up erroring out and saying "UD Mobile could not connect to eisy's WiFi access point." It suggests connecting manually which also seems to get me no where. I have tried this on an iPad and an iPhone 13 Max running the current OS. The app version is the current one. I do not have an android phone to try. The only way I have been able to talk to it thus far is via ethernet cable. I have done factory resets on the unit as well. I tried using WebOS on my LG TV and its browser to enter the command after connecting to the access point mode and it did not work. What else can I do here? Is there any way to connect a keyboard and HDMI monitor and enter some commands at a LINUX command prompt? Thanks, Lee Silverman

Hi Folks! I had tried VoiceMonkey for this in the past and had some success, but was not wild about having to connect to yet another Alexa skill and they are now charging for the text-to-speech level of service. Today I found that I could get Alexa to speak custom messages based on the basic states of devices in ISY. It is amazingly simple and seems to work pretty well so far. No cryptic stings to send or anything beyond using menus in ISY Admin Console and the Alexa app, which in my case is on iOS. Here is an example: 1. In ISY admin console, I pick a device. Let's say a TriggerLinc v.43 sensor I have on my mailbox door. I go into the Notes for it, and set the Location and Spoken to be Mailbox Sensor. When I do this, Mobilinc has it immediately discovered as a new Alexa device. 2. I next go into the Alexa app for iOS, Routines, add a routine called Mailbox Announcement, set When This Happens > Smart Home > Mailbox Sensor> Open, and Add action > Alexa Says > Customized > Your Mailbox has just opened. > Choose Device > (whatever Echo should voice the announcement) > Save. Thats's it. Really simple. No sending strings, passwords, etc. Just simple, high-level settings letting conditions yield automatically-spoke notifications to Alexa. Unlike the NotifyMe skill, this one just speaks without you having to ask what the notification is. Am I late to the party and everyone else already knew this? Perhaps it works with the ISY Optimized for Smart Home skill as well? Cheers! Dr. Lee

Anyone using the Alexa Voice Monkey skill API with ISY?
leecast replied to leecast's topic in Amazon Echo
This is great! I will try it shortly. Thanks very much for sharing! I did get it working with IFTTT, but would much rather do this directly and have the possibility to sending an image to display on the echo show screen other than the Monkey. I had asked their support a couple questions and they are very slow to respond. Nice enough person, but I think it is mostly a hobby and nice that that they made this available. The voice quality is quite good. I did also learn that if you want the announcements to go across multiple Echo Show devices, you make an Alexa App routine for each one. I have a bunch of Echo Shows around my house and it is nice to have it on all of them. There is a little delay between them, but it is still pretty cool and it is free! :)- 8 replies

Thanks, as mentioned above, that was tried with Voice Monkey. The picture I included is of a successful connection using IFTTT.- 8 replies

Hello! I started playing with the Voice Monkey skill recently that allows sending specific spoken announcements to Amazon Echo devices. I have it working currently using IFTTT Webhooks with Voice Monkey and using ISY Network Resources to send strings to it. That actually works pretty well and I am able to use a single "Monkey" Alexa routine to receive this and send the text I want as a variable. Use multiple Network Resources entries with this, each being mostly the same but having different text strings. What I am not yet able to get working is sending from ISY Network Resources directly to the Voice Monkey API. I have tried using https with POST, GET, and PUT. I have used port 443. I have tried with and without Encode URL. I have the Timeout bumped up to 2,500. I have used C Escaped, URL Encoded, and Raw Text. I have tried with and without Use SNI. The errors vary based on configuration settings, but is is mostly "Request Failed" followed by "N/A." I reached out to their support and we continue to try things, but I wondered if anyone else might have gotten this working. Also, for those who might wish to use it with IFTTT, I have attached a redacted copy of the config that works with Webhooks from ISY Network Resources. The skill itself is pretty easy to set up and you do have to create an Alexa Routine for it in the app. Once it is all set, and IFTTT is in place, you can send whatever strings you want Alexa to speak through variables. In this case, here is what it says if my flood detector goes off. Thanks for any insights on getting things working directly from ISY to Voice Monkey API! Lee

I was seeing Error 1 when trying to add an Open/Close Sensor 2843-222. I have about 100 Insteon devices connected to my ISY. Paying the $30 to upgrade to the Pro version by purchasing the software module, installing, and rebooting solved my issue. Perhaps it is a bug in counting devices?

Hi Folks! Any updates on 2844-222 working with ISY? Thanks in advance, Lee
