Yes the cars are alarmed, but if the zone was alarmed as well, the ISY could turn on house lights, driveway lights, maybe even sound an alert, and that might save a smashed window. Security comes in many forms. Tom

Using cameras to record a video of my car being stolen really doesn't interest me. Although having one of me exercising my second amendment rights as I ask them to leave might be fun. Unless you are talking about using the cameras to detect motion, but I've read that is not very reliable. Tom

The 10 second programmed delay is a great idea for reducing the chance of false alarms. That alone justifies using two sensors. Tom

Hello all, We've had a disturbing number of car break-ins in our neighborhood lately, which got me thinking about using my Elk security system, or ISY to monitor them. One thing that came to mind was to use one or more PIR motion sensors aimed at the area, but the beam pattern is much to wide and would probably trigger a lot of false alarms. I suspect it would be possible to narrow the pattern by masking or refocusing the beam, but I haven't explored that area yet. I've also seen devices that create an RF field around the car, but those are intended to be used with the vehicle alarm. I suppose one could use a light beam to surround the area, but that would require a couple of very solid posts for the turning mirrors (and a way to shield them from the great outdoors). Any other thoughts? I'll be retiring soon and need another project to add to the list. Tom

I would like to use it to control a Z-Wave dimmer, but the node just appears to either on or off. Do I need to write a program to set the dimmer to a predetermined level and just trigger the program with the node? I did find a more complete owners manual for the IRLink, but as you said, there wasn't anything in it about it with an ISY. Tom

So I was able to create a node, and get it to turn on and off in response to the remote, but that's about it. I've had zero success in getting it to control any other devices . I could probably get this thing working if there was some documentation available, but all I can find is the quick-start guide that came with the device which is pretty much useless for anything but setting up the IRLink as a stand alone controller. Ok, so I clicked the "Start Linking" tab under Link Management, held the set button on the IRLink receiver and a device called 24.38.77.0 showed up on my list of devices. Now how do I use this device to activate a scene with a button press on the remote? Tom

I picked up an IRLinc 2411R with the thought of using it to dim the lighting around my entertainment center. The plan was to have it receive the signal form the entertainment center's universal remote and activate a scene through the ISYi-ZW to adjust the lighting, but after playing around with it, it looks as though the IRLinc is a stand alone controller and doesn't operate through the ISY. This is a problem for me, because the majority of my devices are Z-wave and the IRLinc doesn't recognize them. The ISYi-ZW does see the IRLink, but doesn't seem to communicate with it. Is there any way around this, or do I need to buy Insteon dimmers to use with this thing? Thanks, Tom

A magnetic vehicle sensor could be buried in front of the mailbox, to sense when the mail truck pulled up. That could in turn trigger an open/close sensor mounted to the rear of the mailbox enclosure. Tom

That fixed it! I thought about parenthesis and looked at the command, but couldn't figure out how to implement it. Now that I look at the user guide specifically for parenthesis, I see it's pretty well explained. Hello, new user here. I wrote a simple program to turn on a lamp when either of two entry doors are opened and would like to add a condition so it only works from sunset to sunrise the next day (no sense turning on the lamp during the day). I thought that simply adding a schedule to the if statement would do it, but no dice. The program acts as it did before, ignoring the schedule. What am I doing wrong?
