CongdonHill
Brand new EZSnsRF from SmartHome, and new Dakota alert 3000's both the indoor and out door models. Indoor works great. Connecting Outdoor 3000 PIR is not working. Do I add all the PIR at the same time? Each PIR has unique code. When I deleted the outdoor PIR from Devices, it deleted the Indoor. I think I have them linked. How many Dakota 3000 can be added to the EZSnsRF? How many EZSnsRF can be on a ISY network? Are the SmartHome PIRs Independent of the EZSnsRF? All devices are new. ISY9441 Pro Ir with Insteon_UD944 v 4.0.5 firmware. Thanks! Langdon
LeeG
The EZSnsRF supports 20 Dakota Alert devices as does the ISY. Check the labels on the Outdoor units. There was a case not too many weeks ago where 3000 series motion sensors were ordered and 2500 series external devices were ordered. Of course the 2500 series devices will not work with the EZSnsRF. When EZSnsRF nodes are deleted and readded it is possible to get the information in the EZSnsRF out of sync with the information in the ISY. Recommend deleting all the EZSnsRF nodes, factory reset the EZSnsRF, start with the external unit positioned inside so range is not in question (after verifying outdoor unit is 3000 series). The EZSnsRF can be used with the Simplehomenet Utility Suite (free download from Smartenit web site). A PLM is needed for the SHN Utility to interface with the powerline and EZSnsRF. The last Dakota Alert code received by the EZSnsRF can be displayed by the SHN Utility Suite to confirm it is receiving the outdoor device code. It is not necessary to add any nodes to the ISY. Simply create the action that causes the outdoor unit to send its code and display the last code read by the EZSnsRF. If it does not match the code of the outdoor unit it could be out of range or not a 3000 series device. The 3000 series and 2500 series look the same but operate on different frequencies. CongdonHill
LeeG , thank you. Good suggestion. I actually think I had it working - despite some of the node searching messages. I noticed on my smart phone, that I was actually getting email alerts from both sensors. Unfortunately, I had deleted the devices and I was going to re-load the devices. How is it best to reset the memory ? I have been holding the button on the devices when i plug them in. Any other hard wipe of the programs? I am using the ISY with the UD ISY interface. The thing that has thrown me off a bit is the Status in the interface showing false on the Status menu. Are devices better to set up by entering their address or using the auto? LeeG
It is best to refer to the User Guide for the specific device but in general holding the Set button in while plugging in the device and holding the Set button in for 10 seconds will initiate a factory reset. That clears the options to default and resets the link database to zeros. I prefer to use New INSTEON Device where I can enter a specific Device Name. Using Start Linking and pressing a device Set button adds the device nodes under the Insteon address which is not very meaningful to me. However, whatever method is used should not make any difference to the Status of a device. There are devices that are Controller Only. RemoteLinc, RemoteLinc2, ControLinc, EZSnsRF, EZX10RF, Motion Sensor, TriggerLinc are just a few. They have no inherent On/Off status being Controller Only devices. The ISY uses the last command sent by the node as Status. Until a command is sent no Status is presented.
CongdonHill
Ah that explains why the status. I have been trying to re-build the links I had before. I am still having difficulty getting the OutDoor PIR 3000 to connect. I do get the EZSnsRF to Blink slowly, then I get it to blink quickly. However It is not showing up in the devices? I am using the UD interface and I am selecting the add sensor to connect. Now its still in discovering Nodes. One observation - to get the EZSnsRF to add sensors, I have to press the button one time for 10 seconds. Then when I press it the second time, it will begin to blink slowly. No matter how long I hold it during the first"press" it does not begin to blink. Is this an issue with line noise? I have tried all morning to re-configure as I had it yesterday, but its not sticking. I'd like to reset everything and start again. I have to check water tanks - I will be back to this forum in about 5 hours. Thanks. Langdon
LeeG
I suspect the 10 second press of the Set button is putting the device into linking mode or it is completing something from before. That should not be necessary and I think it is interferring with what is a very sensitive sequence of events. Be sure to watch the System Busy flag in the lower left corner. If the steps following the click Ok are started before the System Busy flag goes back to Ready the sequence cannot complete correcly. The Event Viewer has to be run at LEVEL 3 to show the command flow.
CongdonHill
That was my mistake, I did not see the system "busy" in the lower left hand corner. I got it working. It was pressing the button while the system was busy was the trick. I don't understand why the units don't go into linking mode with just one "3-5" second press, it seems that they have to be pressed once, then the second time. At least that is the case it seems with the EZSnsRF. Thanks. Langdon
Brian H
The Smartenit {Simplehomenet} devices sometimes use Set Button Sequences that a standard Insteon device may not use. That maybe what you are running into or not familiar with.
