larryllix
A report spam/inappropriate box would be good for each post to assist moderators finding it. This has to be a massive job running things here and still getting anything else done. I hope those spammers get paid well, 'cause unrelated spam does nothing for me when I am reading Home Automation matters. Link to comment
Xathros
The red Exclamation point in the bottom right of every post is exactly that. Click it and choose your spam type and notification options. Of course, around here, you have to get up pretty early to find a spam post that hasn't "Already been reported" -Xathros Link to comment

Xathros
Time to add a captcha code during registration for an account. I don't think that will help as the spam we see here is likely posted by actual humans getting paid peanuts to post link spam anywhere they can. -Xathros Link to comment
elvisimprsntr
Suggestions. 1. Captcha code during registration. 2. Admin approval for new accounts or 24 hour waiting period. 3. Restrict first time posters from creating new topics or embed links in posts. Moderator approval of first post. 4. Automatic block of account once spam post is reported. Require admin approval to reactivate. Link to comment
Michel Kohanim
Hi elvisimprsntr, We already have all of those except the 24 hour wait period which would cause problems for new users. With kind regards, Michel Link to comment
Brian H
Michael, Unfortunately something didn't catch the large spam attach of messages I saw this morning. Makes it difficult to find the real help from the garbage. Link to comment
elvisimprsntr
It appears the spammers have ratcheted it up a notch. 1. How about IP address blocking? They all have to be coming from the same sweat shop or country. 2. Rate limit on posts. 3. Captcha code for users first 10 posts. Link to comment
elvisimprsntr
Ok this is just plain sad. Obviously if you have all the technical and administrative controls in place to thwart spam, they have found a vulnerability. I am starting to see similar spam on other forums which have never had a problem, but also have the tapatalk backend installed. Is it possible they have found a vulnerability that bypasses all the measures? Link to comment
Teken
Wow what is going on in this forum? I haven't see. This much garbage since 2003. This is out of control. Teken . . . Encrypted By: Phoenix Security Solutions Link to comment
G W
Maybe some of us trusted users could be given access to hide these messages until they can be reviewed and deleted by the admin staff. I can easily write the code to allow this. Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk Link to comment

elvisimprsntr
How about as soon as a post connected to an account is flagged as spam, the account and all posts are automatically removed so everyone doesn't have to waste their time flagging each post as spam. Link to comment

elvisimprsntr
These MFs are pissing me off now. Enough to make me want to head to the pub and drink. Anyone want to join in? Link to comment
Mark H
Thanks to the overnight spammers, all my watched topics generated emails and flooded my mail box. >. I had to trawl through at least 50 posts by just one stinking spammer, to see if the topics has any legitimate answers. Then 50 or so more by a combined handful of spammers. "Stop Forum Spam" no longer has a working plugin for phpBB it appears. Michel, please take a look at KeyCAPTCHA for phpBB: https://www.keycaptcha.com/phpbb-captcha/ It's what I use on my forum (though a different brand, not phpBB), and the one my company recommends for its clients with spam problems. If those stinking spammers have to complete that check before every post, they'll quit and go somewhere easier. I'll volunteer to help as well! Limited to post moderation permissions, whatever. And you may wish to look at a commercial (paid) solution for the entire forum. PM me if you'd like some details, I'd rather not clutter things up further. Thanks. Link to comment
Teken
I guess what really stands out is when a forum is run so well and the systems are locked down. These sorts of things are so very rare to the end users. I am sure things will get sorted out in due time. Its just shocking to see a one night of mayhem cause so much frustration to the members in trying to review monitored threads and those of interest. I guess we have all been pampered in not seeing such a high volume of spam in the forums! Teken . . . Link to comment
jdm5
I'll also volunteer to do "lite" moderation (quarantine stuff, let the full blown mods evaluate my decisions)...this is getting crazy! Link to comment
larryllix
There has been about 200 new accounts created in the last two days and more coming. New forum accounts need to be temporarily suspended until the situation can get under control. Link to comment
G W
I suggest that if a user is tagged as a spammed by 5 longtime users, all his messages are hidden and an admin must unflag the account to allow future posting. That has a built in safety protecting the alleged spammer. Again, I can modify the code. Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk Link to comment
DennisC
Is it possible to permit read only rights unless a new user has purchased an ISY? Dennis Link to comment
io_guy
Michel, I just did a test registration and didn't see any Captcha or questions to answer. Just email verification. There are also additional spam plugins available to phpBB that may help such as the Advanced Block Mod. https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/modi ... ti-spam-9/ Link to comment
