morninglinc/milocks stopped working

Hi all something weird going on here ....

Out of the blue my milocks stopped working via insteon ... figured it might have been result of a poweroutage or something so

went through the setup .. numerous times .. so far one conclusion ... i can't figure it out :P

codes on doors work fine, keyfobs work fine, it seems to be the ISY994 not talking to the locks ... sorta ... cause the setup works ???

If i hit the S button on the milock, and then hit the on/off button via Mobilinc or the ISY Console .. i get the two-beep confirmation form the lock

that it has successfully added a new remote (in this case the morninglinc) .. but when i afterwards try the mobilinc or console on/off .. nothing happens except

the status changes in mobilinc/ console .. the locks don't respond

things tried;

-reset the morninglinc (remove from outlet, wait 10 secs plug back in with set button pressed)

-removed batteries from mylocks, wait 5 minutes

-reset the milocks (C button on lock)

-added the keyfobs (success)

-reset all codes, re-added (success)

Any suggestions ?

Thanks !!

Still the same :( .. i remove the morninglinc completely form the ISY ... then hit S on a lock, hit the set button on

morning linc .. back to the lock S again .. back to morninglinc Set again .. 'Beep Beep' from the locks .. so all should be fine .. right.

Set ISY in linking mode, keep existing links ,, press Set button .. it adds .. all fine .. BUT

no lock action when hitting the on/off in console or even when i hit the set switch on the morninglinc .....

im puzzled ....

If the MorningLinc Set button does not move the lockset independent of being linked to the ISY the MorningLinc is not linked (lockset link, not Insteon/ISY link) to the lockset. Once the MorningLinc has been linked to the lockset even a factory reset of the MorningLinc will not remove the MorningLinc/lockset link as that information is maintained in the lockset. Remember the MorningLinc has to be close to the lockset when linking those devices together for security reasons.

the locks are 19 and 18 ft away .. the morninglinc is in the middle .. it has worked for 5-6 months without problems.

i'll move the morninglinc closer to one and retry .. one thing i just remembered is that i added the smokebridge a while ago .. somewhere around the time

when the locks stopped working ... the smoke detector is hanging right above the morning link , the smokebridge is on the other side of the room.. i doubt that that would be a problem

figured i just point it out.

even with the morninglink 2ft away, still no dice .. it acknowledges the setup .. but when i try afterwards to

use the Set button to flip the locks .. no response

Check the instructions, using the MorningLinc to control the lockset is very different from linking the MorningLinc to the lockset. For security reasons they have to be close together when linking the MorningLinc to the lockset.

EDIT: If 2' does not work that is a MorningLinc issue. From the MorningLinc GS guide

Installation

When installing MorningLinc, use an outlet or extension cord to keep the unit within five feet of the door lock fixture. Once installation is complete, MorningLinc can be moved to another outlet (up to 30 feet away from the door lock fixture).

so are you saying the morninglinc is bad ?

i have one sitting next to the lock (less than 2 ft) .. go through the setup ... it beeps and does everything as expected

(although a little faster) .. but still not responding after i click on/off in console

Use the Set button on the MorningLinc as the test for whether the MorningLinc and the lockset have been successfully linked. If that does not work at 2' then the issue is between the MorningLinc and the lockset.

When using the Admin Console how the MorningLinc was linked to the ISY adds to the question. Only when the Set button on the MorningLinc changes the lockset should testing from the Admin Console be done. Again, using the 'keep existing links' option is critical. Without that the link record between the PLM and the MorningLinc (very different from the link between the MorningLinc and the Lockset) the ISY cannot control the MorningLinc and therefore cannot affect the lockset.

Ah yes ..so back to my original problem .. even without having it linked to the ISY (its completely removed atm)

i run through the setup, (hit S on Lock, beep, hit button on ML, lock says 'beep, beep') wait a minute or so ..

then try to lock/unlock by hitting the Set on the ML .. and nothing happens, so the problem is between the lock and the ML

how do i find out what the problem is ?

I would put new batteries in the lockset. I have two MorningLincs and have not had issues linking them to the locksets. I know of no tests that can be run. The beep results match what the Quick Start guide as expected result. I doubt the lockset folks want the comm between the MorningLinc and the lockset public information.

Might try putting the MorningLinc in a vertical position so the antenna is positioned as it normally would be. I had the lockset and the MorningLinc sitting on the same table when I linked mine together.

well ... i figured it out ...

strag though .. but makes sense somewhat .. maybe :P

i just hit the 'c' on the lock .. and then the ML set button .. over and over until i heard a tone that was slightly different.

then reset .. hit 's' on lock, hit 's' on ML .. all good now .. i guess i tried so many times that it got confused , and clearing all of them

from the ML memory .. fixed it ?

anyhow .. thanks for the help !!!!!

Thanks for the tips.  I had the same exact issue.  Out of nowhere the morninglinc couldn't talk to the deadbolt.  Though following the instructions to use S on the deadbolt and set on the ML was giving me 3 beeps. No documentation anywhere on the deadbolt and what 3 beeps means. Found this and hitting the C on the deadbolt then set on the ML reconnected them.  Had to redo the key fobs, but not having the automation was a real pain.
