Skripo Posted March 17, 2014 Share Posted March 17, 2014 My 2413s recently started acting flakey, intermittently dying on me when it finally gave up the ghost for good. I tried all the reset procedures and the little green light refused to light. I looked high and low for a solution but all I could find were complaints that these things had a 2 to 2.5 year lifespan. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I opened up the unit to look for bulging caps or some other visible sign of damage and found none. What I DID see however was board rot. It is a whitish substance that builds up and can sometimes short traces or cause other issues. 1st gen PS3s were famous for this. I fully dissembled the unit and separated the boards and separated them. I then dipped a toothbrush in some pure acetone and scrubbed vigorously until everything was shiny clean. I let the unit sit overnight to ensure the memory was fully cleared and the acetone evaporated. I then plugged it in with the reset pushed (as I had done a dozen times before) and after about 15 minutes the light came on and I could connect. I am not sure this is a universal fix but it doesn't cost you to try and only takes about 20 minutes. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
