Replace Insteon Keypads with ELK KPs for ISY Program Control

Does anyone know if the individual buttons on the ELK keypads can be addressed by ISY? The context of my question is, the EKL KPs have many more buttons than insteon KPs. I would love to use these to control my ISY programs. This would be especially useful for AV related control using this KP, which has LCD and direction control:

 

 

 

 

What I am asking is if I have ELK and ISY, can use the ELK KPs as generic KPs for general ISY HA controls (not to arm/disarm the ELK)? Can that be done? If so, can I go one step further and combine this with text being displayed on the KP LCD? If so, I could for example have a button run a series of programs to turn on and switch my Onlyo AVR to play DVD, turn on the TV screen, dim lights and have the KP display "Play Movie in Living Room"

 

For other uses this KP would be far more virsitile that the 6-8 button Insteon alternative...

Yes. You can write programs on the Elk that will "press" a Function key. That means for behaviors that you want the ISY to do on the Elk that aren't available in programs instead can be programmed locally on the Elk to an F key and then have the ISY "press" that F key. Of course, you're limited on F keys on your keypad.

Is that the bottom line: only function keys, not all keys. If so my intended use won't work

You can detect keypad press with ISY and trigger events including writing text to the keypad. However, that only includes special keys and not the numeric keys.

 

You'll see your options in the ISY itself by looking at the drop down options under Conditions->Elk->Keypad
