jmed999 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I bought an 8 scene toggle mini remote from Insteon. Can I change it to a 4 scene toggle? ie. I would like the A button to turn a light on and only blink green and the B button to turn it off and only blink red. How can this be done? Thanks!
LeeG Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 "Can I change it to a 4 scene toggle?" Yes. The ISY can set a mini remote to the three possible choices. "I would like the A button to turn a light on and only blink green and the B button to turn it off and only blink red." The right side button sends an On, the left side button sends an Off. No other choice.
jmed999 Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Does the right side only blink green and the left side only blink red?
jmed999 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 I bought the 8 scene version of this mini remote... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LIH2Y8/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Once I received it I realized I would rather use it as a 4 scene and should have bought this one instead... http://www.amazon.com/INSTEON-Mini-Remote-4-Scene/dp/B005LIH2QG/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1403981913&sr=1-1&keywords=insteon+mini+remote+4+scene So I then linked the mini remote using "Link Remotelinc 2" as a 4 scene remote hoping this would make it just like the one I should have bought. It didn't. In 4 scene mode, only buttons b, d, f, and h change status on the admin console. They alternate between on and off and the color of the LED alternates. Ie. If I press button "b", the LED blinks green and changes the status of "A-B" to "On". If I press button "b" again, the LED blinks red and changes the status of "A-B" to "off". Buttons a, c, e, and g do not change the status of anything in the admin console. Ie. if I press button "a", the LED blinks green but the status of "A-B" does not change. If I press button "a" again, the LED blinks red and the status of "A-B" does not change. Can I make this 8 scene mini remote a true 4 scene mini remote? If so, How? I'm I lining it corectly by linking it as a "Remotelinc 2"? Thanks for your help!
LeeG Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 I converted an 8 Scene to a 4 Scene to run the previous tests. Right side press sends an On command each time it is pressed. Left side button sends an Off command each time it is pressed. What level ISY Admin Console is being used?
jmed999 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 Thanks for testing yours Lee. I'm running 4.2.4.
LeeG Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 The hardware level of the first 8 Scene to 4 Scene is v1.1. Just did the same test on a second 8 Scene to 4 Scene, hardware v1.1C, firmware v.36. Same results as first, right side always sends On, left side always sends Off. Perhaps a factory reset will help.
jmed999 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 I updated the ISY to 4.2.5. My mini remote is a V1.5 and the ISY says it's an "8 scene v.37". It says 8 scene even though I have it set as 4 scene. I did a factory reset and now only button b changes the status of "A-B" but d, f, and h do not change the status of "C-D", "E-F, and "G-H".
LeeG Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Both of my 8 Scene devices show as an 8 Scene device even though the mode was changed. I'm charging my 4 Scene and expect it to show as 4 Scene regardless of mode selected. Now your button B toggles Scene 1; D,F,H do nothing; does C,E,G toggle Scene 2,3,4? Sounds like either the battery is low or the device is defective.
jmed999 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 Now your button B toggles Scene 1; D,F,H do nothing; does C,E,G toggle Scene 2,3,4? "Now your button B toggles Scene 1; D,F,H do nothing" Correct. "does C,E,G toggle Scene 2,3,4" No they do not toggle any scenes. The only button that toggles a scene is button B and it toggles scene 1. In 8 scene mode it works perfectly. All buttons toggle there respective scenes correctly in 8 scene mode.
LeeG Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 The native 4 Scene in default 4 Scene mode works the same as the 8 Scene in 4 Scene mode. Went through the current sales pages for both the 4 Scene and 8 Scene devices. Everything indicates your device is not working correctly.
LeeG Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Anytime. Meant to put this in the previous post, even the buttons on the 4 Scene model show the right side buttons are marked with an up arrow for On and the left side buttons are marked with a down arrow for Off. A little hard to see but the sales page for the 4 Scene shows the same buttons.
jshank Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I just purchased 2 of these (2342-222 v1.5s) 8-scene mini remotes. I tried to configure both of them for 4-scene mode and they will not change. Is the configuration done through ISY or through the 4 x hold set button, then tap set, then tap a? Tried both ways to no avail. ISY show remote.a-b, remote.c-d, etc but the a button controls the C-D functions and the b controls the A-B function. Toggle settings only.
stusviews Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I use the ISY to change the Mini Remote mode. The Mini Remote needs to be put in linking mode before the changes occur.
oberkc Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 When changing through this ISY, ensure there are no little green or red symbols next to the device name. This could indicate that there are updates to be written to the device.
jshank Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) I was finally able to get it by using the manual method to set it to 4-scene and then using the "b" button to set it to 4-scene mode. I think there's been a change in the firmware without any documentation or the ISY being updated. Edited November 8, 2014 by jshank
steve.s.sousa@gmail.com Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 followed the documentation using hold set repeat press "a" but same issue with 2342-222 but read your comment and tried "b" instead...now works as 4 scene!! thanks!!
stusviews Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 The manual for the 8-button Remotelinc 2 is confusing because the button letter and direction is based on a 4-button Remotelinc, so "a ^" actually means press the top button on the right side, "a v" is the top, left and "d v" is the left bottom button.
