Liftmaster 8500 integration. Has anyone accomplished this yet?

Looking for the ability to monitor, open, close, the garage door motor I just installed. 

 

It is the elite 8500 model. It has the MyQ system built in. So I can use the liftmaster system to open and close it, and monitor but it is just another system for me to look over. Would rather have it all setup through the ISY.

The iolinc won't control a MyQ door without some hackery, if you have the button in your garage with the LCD. Status is fine with the kit though, as long as you get the correct relay and do not use 'trigger reverse'.

 

I'm going to be installing one of these in a couple of weeks, and plan to get an extra wireless controller to wire to the iolinc (well, actually I'll be using my Elk M1... But same concept).

 

There is also an API, but its not friendly to the ISY. You have to call an authorization URL first to get an access token, then you call a different API to perform actions using the token. The token is only valid for a few minutes though...

 

Edit: by 'not control' I mean the iolinc controlling the door power cycles the button controller because of the way it shorts the wires together to cause the door to operate. This normally wouldn't be an issue, but with MyQ doors it is apparently.

Have you used this before?  Just wondering if it works well or not. 

 

I have a similar system as yours minus the MyQ and online hub. All of the other parts are exactly the same and was called the Liftmaster 3800 jack shaft back in the day.

 

I have been using the Insteon garage IO kit for more then five years without any issues. The wires that come from the IO simply install in parallel into the actual GDO main board.

I just installed the 8500 Elite this weekend.  Great unit. Really is.  

 

Anyway, it is MyQ enabled.  So I would need to wire another push button switch, if I have the button that has the LCD on it? The controller I have on the wall is controlled with two wires.  Here is a link to the wall unit controller I have:

I don't see any LCD at all.

I've not used it yet - but there are plenty of reported issues with the 'smart' wall buttons. Simply shorting the wires causes them to reset.

 

YMMV. Personally, I'd start with a quick test by momentarily shorting the two wires (at the motor) to simulate what the iolinc does. The door will operate - but watch your button. Does it reset/beep/freak out? If not, you should be fine with the stock iolinc wired as the instructions say.

Again, two wires and I know the iolinc messes this one up. I'm planning to have to work around issues with that one.

Yeah mine does NOT come with that one.  How many wires are needed to be installed for that wall unit?

Just 2. Power is supplied down the two wires from the motor and the unit communicates back to the motor wirelessly (MyQ is a two way protocol). The iolinc shorting the wires does not harm this directly (its a high impedance power supply), but it does interrupt power to the controller, causing all kinds of issues apparently.

Some people have taken the button apart and wired directly to the push button, others have done the same to a secondary wireless button (as I plan to do).

I have two MyQ units and just started looking at how they communicate. I'm not sure but I think these could be modified to work locally and when used with a node server, let the ISY have full control.

My door openers are Wayne Dalton which use multi button RF only door controls.  Had to do the same attachment you are considering.  Has worked for years with Insteon control of detached garage doors.  I have experience with small low wattage soldering iron so did the work myself.  If you have a usual assortment of neighbors very likely at least one will have the needed soldering iron and experience using it.  Using caution the wires can be attached with no damage to door controller.

I'm planning on putting in a new opener with MyQ system so have been doing a good bit of reading.  I think my solution is goign to be to get an extra normal wireless remote and wire an IOlink to "press" the button on it.  I also plan to hardwire power to it.  Should work smoothly with no ill effects.
