Replace 6 button KPL with 8 button

I've had a few KPLs that required replacement. The new models they are being replaced with required me to upgrade to 994i which has worked fine so far.

 

The issue I have is twice now, I've had to replace a 6 button older KPL. Since now the new dual band KPLs are the same price for 6 and 8 buttons, I've purchased 8 button replacements. However, when I use "Replace with" function in ISY to replace the old 6 button with the new 8 button, it converts the new 8 button into a 6 button and none of the scenes transfer over to the new KPL buttons. The button attributes DO transfer over (toggle mode, etc) but nothing else does. This has happened for both KPLs in different locations.

 

What am I doing wrong? For one of these, I ended up removing and re-adding the entire thing manually (the old laborious way) which worked, but renders the "replace with" function useless.

The number of buttons must match (6 replaces 6, 8 replaces 8 ) for the Group (Scene) numbers behind the buttons to function.  An original 8 button can be converted to 6 button but an actual 8 button KPL cannot Replace an actual 6 button (nor the other way) as the Group (Scene) numbers do not support moving the existing Scenes over.

Good to know, thanks Lee. I wonder why the isy programmers allow the 8 button to show up when using the "replace with" function on a 6 button device...that should probably be removed from the programming.

 

Last night, I did the "restore device" command and now all the functions are working on the 8 button
