Creating a scene to keep KPL in synch with SwitchLinc

I am in the process of changing from Vera to ISY994, and thus far am extremely impressed, but have a few issues I'm trying to work out.

 

What I thought should be a very simple task, just doesn't seem to be.  Before I get too creative, I want to be able to turn on/off a SwitchLinc (2477D) via my phone, and have the associated KPL (2486D) stay in synch.  Currently the two are linked fine, so if I turn on the light via the SwitchLinc, the KPL (button C) turns on, and vice versa.  But if I turn on the SwitchLinc with the phone, the KPL doesn't change state.  I've read on many forums that it is not possible to use a program, which is too bad because it would then be a very easy solution.

 

I did read that the only solution is to create a scene.  I have tried all of the following without success.  Perhaps there is some additional step that I need?

 

SwitchLinc as controller, KPL as responder

SwitchLinc as controller, KPL as controller

SwitchLinch as responder, KPL as responder

Welcome.  Create a scene.  Add both devices to the scene as controllers.  If you added the device as a responder, then remove it from the scene then re-add it as a controller.  A device can only be a controller of one scene.  If the device is already set as a controller of a scene, then remove it from that scene first.

What are you using to control the light from your phone.  Whatever you are using, make sure you are turning the scene you created on and off, not just the individual device.

Thank you...I was turning the SwitchLinc on/off, and not the scene.  Is there some way to configure the KPLs so that they will turn on/off depending on the state of the SwitchLinc?  Also is there a possibility to create some program that I can run hourly to check the state of all KPLs to make sure that they are in synch with the relevant SwitchLincs?

If you stick with scenes then everything should stay in sync.

However, sometime things do get out of sync. This can be due to a communication issue. Sometimes a kpl button is used to turn on a scene but then one scene member is turned off and the kpl button remains on. Monitoring programs can be used to check for this and turn the kpl off.

I assume you are using MobiLinc to control your devices. As others have already pointed out, you have to turn the devices on and off via the scene if you want the switches and KPLs to stay in sync. If you want to directly control the device itself from MobiLinc and still have the KPL button stay in sync, you will indeed have to write a program.

Thank you for all of the great information!  Your assumption is correct, that I am using Mobilinc on my android (and soon to be ipad).  I will plan to use Scenes rather individual controllers in the future.  

 

gweempose, you mention writing a program.  Can you please give an example, as I was under the impression that programs did not work with the individual buttons on the KPL.

Check the link I posted.

You cannot directly control a kpl button. You have to create a scene with the kpl button as a responder. You then turn the scene on or off in order to get the button to turn on or off.

 

Example, if the switch is turned off then the corresponding kpl button turns off.

If

status switchlinc is off

 

Then

Set scene kpl button off

 

Use scenes whenever possible so you don't have a bunch of programs constantly running unnecessarily.

Thanks...it works perfectly, as you described.  One final question on this subject.  If I want to create a program to check once a day if everything is in synch, are there any tricks for this?  If not, I will create multiple programs (one for each pair), and then set them all to run at 3AM, for example.

I think the isy runs maintenance at 3am so that would not be a good time to run some programs. I would wait until you see any problems before you start trying to fix them. If your system is working properly with good communications then devices should remain in sync. Monitoring programs like in the linc I posted can be used to show the status of a scene.

If you have specific issue I would post them so you can get programming help.
