Battery Operated Devices - Version Number??

I believe since the very beginning all battery operated devices never displayed the version number with in the ISY Series Controller. In a related thread I was trying to help out another fellow member and decided to take a spare MS I have on hand and try to enroll said device using the *Start Linking* process.

 

As the other member noted the ISY will not enroll the MS with this method. But, all the member wanted to do was to know what the device ID was.

 

As always, with the expert help of LeeG using the same *Start Linking* while monitoring the event trace will provide the device ID.

 

This is something I was trying to recall when asking the member to enroll the MS this way.

 

Regardless, as noted I tried to enroll the new MS and was surprised to see that the battery operated MS does indeed show a version number?

 

Has something changed in the ISY firmware to allow this? If so I believe I will (moving forward) remove a few battery operated devices to allow me to track the version of firmware I have for some of the equipment in my Insteon network.

I always use Auto Discover (after manually putting device into linking mode) which does show device firmware level on line 2. The device firmware level is part of the device response when working with an I2CS device which may be where the device firmware level became stable.

What I find interesting is that these MS's are all older 2420 models and not the newer 2842-222 models. I have to believe either there is a over lap when I2CS was launched or the simple fact the ISY Firmware can simply query more information from the battery operated device(s).

 

As noted, these MS are quite a number of years old so this has me very curious.
