Note, Insteon does not advertise, suggest, or recommend their products be used as a security system or for life saving conditions. I just want to replace an existing wired device with a INSTEON device so I can monitor/control it just like my existing INSTEON light switches. I stated it because most people don't understand the difference and I wanted to call that out. There is nothing stopping you from installing the battery operated version and leaving the hardwired one in place. Obviously, you will need to contend with battery changes during the course of the years. You will need to realize RF may be limited and even if they offered a hardwired version its not going to help you when there's no power. Lots of people like to automate all facets of their home, life, what ever. What many fail to see, understand is that some things need to stay the way it is because it simply works. Insteon will never replace a real security system nor do they advertise as such. If you have a hardwired sensor in place with an existing alarm system keep it in place. If your alarm panel has dry contacts you can use a I/O linc to send information down to the Insten network. This would be the best method with out compromising your security. Maybe a plunger switch if the old one is inside the door frame or a magnetic switch if the old one is externally mounted. Triggering a I/OLinc.
