ISY 26 Notifications not working!

I am also having problems with notifications. I have a test program for notifications, but it is not working. Also, I tried typing TM from the telnet prompt. If I answer Send Message with a capital Y, I am echoed a message that says failed to send. If I type a lower case y, I am not echoed at all. For either case I do not receive an email. I am using default SMTP settings with ISY-99i firmware 2.6.7.

Apologies for a tardy reply. Please do not use the default since, in all likelihood, we have already gone beyond our limit for this month. You might want to try a gmail account as follows:

server - smtp.gmail.com

port - 587

userid - your gmail address

password - ...

Use TLS - checked

Hi keribi,

 

Release 2.6.8 should be out shortly ( although it's been quite a long time). In the meantime, would you be kind enough to check your logs and let me know if you see any errors. And, if so, could you provide me with the error numbers?

I cannot get any notifs to work tried my ISP, google and no luck! Any fixes?

I've followed all the instructions, set my gmail account appropriately, but never received an email.

 

I realize there is a "From" field now; exactly what goes in that field?

Hi Joe,

 

In the from field, please put your "sender's email address". It's always best to use your own gmail account for the from.

 

Please check the log and see if you see any -5000x in there. Also, try the Test button. Do you get anything?

Hello Joe,

 

My pleasure and apologies for a tardy reply (on the road again).

 

The problem is DNS: ISY is trying to resolve universal-devices.com (it should be smtp.gmail.com) but it fails.

Have you assigned a static IP address for ISY? If so, what did you use as your DNS server? If not, then in all likelihood ISY is not getting the DNS server from your router. You can always test by:

1. Assign a static IP address for ISY

2. For DNS, please use the same IP address as you find in the status page of your router.

1. Have you assigned a static IP address for ISY?
I have a static IP thru my ISP and the Router has assigned 192.168.1.110 but it does not show in the status table.

 

2. For DNS, please use the same IP address as you find in the status page of your router.
Where am I assigning the DNS? (Which would be 192.168.1.110)

Hi Joe,

 

The main question is if your ISY (not your router) has a static IP address. To check, please:

1. Telnet to your ISY (telnet your.isy.ip.address)

2. Issue CT on the command line: if you get 0.0.0.0 then you are on DHCP if not you have a static IP address

3. If you have a static IP address, keep pressing the Enter button on your keyboard till you get to the DNS

Yes, I do have a static IP and it is 192.168.1.110. I "entered" my way down to the DNS Server entry in the telnet and put in 192.168.1.110. The telnet then asked me the Y/N questions and I answered Y to all and the ISY rebooted.

 

Tried the email again and no joy. ("Request Failed") Do I have to close all browsers and clear the Java Cache?

 

I DID go ahead and checked my gmail account just in case...no email there.

You want to input your router's IP address for the DNS server, not your ISY's IP address. Chances are you want to use 192.168.1.1.

Joe, this wiki article describes assigning ISY a static IP address. The Gateway is almost always the IP address of your router. Your router's IP address will certainly begin with 192.168.1 (based on the IP address it is giving your ISY), and the last byte may be 1 as MikeB indicated, depending on your router. It will be the IP address that you use to log on to your router. If you are not sure, let us know the make and model of your router.

 

As indicated, the Netmask is usually 255.255.255.0, but should be the same as the Netmask in your router. Likewise, the DNS Server is usually the IP address of your router (same as Gateway), but may also be set to the DNS Server address in your router. What Michel is suggesting is the latter (the DNS Server address in your router). Try it both ways. Again, if you're having trouble locating these addresses in your router, let us know the make and model.

Another thing you could do is:

 

- from a PC on your LAN, open a command prompt / DOS box

- type in: IPCONFIG /ALL

 

Find your LAN connection in the text that follows. You should see your "Default Gateway" and "DNS Servers" there. Use those same values when setting the static IP on your ISY.

Mike I tried your suggestions; didnt work.

 

I've had some other issues with this ISY for several months. I don't want to get into it on this forum, but Michel and I have been trying to work through several issues (communications, memory mapping, wierd things happening with programming, and program execution) and I have a feeling that this is related.

As MikeB indicated, ipconfig /all will give you your gateway address. If the DNS Server address it shows is the same as the gateway address, then it is not the actual DNS Server address the router uses. To find that address, you must log on to your router. Do so by typing the Gateway IP Address into your browser's address bar. Once in the router, find your actual DNS Server address. If you need help, post your router make and model.
