Most of the Insteon Developers Notes . That where in the Developers Download web site. Are now available for anyone to download.

http://www.insteon.com/developer/#devdocs

I rarely see them updated for the latest features. Though they should still give some of the curious added information.

Some documentation is not there yet and may or may not get there. Like the full Developers Manual.

I think this is great news for the general public who like to know more about the inner workings of the device. I always laugh at people who are concerned about *reverse engineering* a product or that they believe this will have some kind of negative impact on the product or otherwise.

People, this is why there are patents, laws, and blood sucking lawyers in the USA!

It actually amuses me to read people say this is a NDA topic so can't comment etc. There have been countless articles, images, and actual teachings about how to make a nuclear bomb.

Does anyone truly believe knowing how something operates is in the same ball part of how to build a nuclear bomb??? The reality is, the more people who are able to understand, implement, and create supporting devices, drivers, software, etc fosters growth and adoption of said product.

People spout off all the time how this and that will hurt the business and how it might also impact sales.

Really???

There are millions of people making Windows software to work with every iterations of WIndows OS! That has spurred on more sales, profits, and development for the original vendor. I liken this to the whole HL2 Software issue because smart money knows if you make it available (open source) and let others carry the torch it will help grow the market and spread the word.

Which thus, translates to more sales . . .

This was seen when Smartlabs removed the reliance on HL2 on working only on the dedicated USB PLM. At the end of the day this information isn't top secret, its not going to reinvent the wheel, and certainly will not make any Chinese vendor immediately copy this product.

Which on a tangent really surprises me because in the last 8 years I have been looking for a copy cat product and literally none exists!

Glad it helped.

It was a surprise to me as much of the documentation. That was on a web page that needed a membership ID and Password. Is now available to all.

I have seen a few pages indicating new changes are in the works.

I am glad I was an early SDK member as the present $249.99 for the kit with access. Would irritate me now that most of the documentation is free to download and for now the Developers Forums are gone.

I believe the whole developers forum was a complete joke from the on set. Based on several related threads and private discussions with those in the same boat as you. Many of them affirmed the forum was a complete waste land no meaningful information was provided or what couldn't be obtained in the wild.

What I find insulting to those who actually took the time to show their support and in paying for access and documentation is the lack of feed back, support, and guidance.

Some have expressed their views to me in private indicating it appeared the initial plan / goal was real. But, due to turn over of staff and piss poor management decisions to lead the market.

They (Management) simply let it die off and let the poor [censored] that paid linger alone in the side lines. The only reason you're seeing such a huge opening of the doors is the partnership of Microsoft / Apple.

Both of these companies are [censored] in their own right - But, all of them have well documented SOP's for Dev's. They lead the market in how information should be shared, provided, and released.

This is more than likely why Smartlabs has open the doors to finally allow what has been asked of for 10 freaking years. Its a small fish hoping to become a big fish in a large ocean.

They hope to finally shed the wall of silence in some aspects and open the gates so they don't lose relevance. The new fad is HA which is great for all of us in the long term. In the short term its a complete cluster because the market is being saturated with lots of POS toys and hardware that have no shelf life.

Only time will tell if some of these companies see value in staying in the HA space. To be fair the market was not ready for Energy Monitoring, Energy Management, and HA.

Fast forward ten years later it (appears) on the surface this might be the second coming of the wants and desires.

Not holding my breath this will last very long - But do hope a few break through's and advances come along the way. As much as I despise Apples locked in eco system they have proven to enter a space and stay in it for the most part for the long haul.

Microsoft not so much . . .

Google, same thing . . .

Samsung, well you never know about the Koreans they seem to invest in toilet paper to technology like its going out of style.

Amazon, not on your life . . .
