thomas Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Hello. I have had an Insteon network for years and everything has been perfect in regards to communications. Recently scene commands have stopped working. Shortly thereafter my PLM died. I purchased a new one and restored it from ISY but still the scenes do not work. The PLM is plugged directly into the wall (no power strip, etc. in the middle). It is in the same location is always has been. I can control devices directly but not via scenes (likely due to the retry attempts). In reading the forums this would possibly indicate a network quality issue, however nothing significant has changed on the electrical system or the Insteon network. The only possible thing I could think is that we recently replaced our built-in refrigerator with a new one. No CFLs have been installed or other non-standard items. The network is probably 20 switches, some battery operated devices, a couple outdoor modules, and some IO lincs and 2 keypad lincs. My detailed technical knowledge on Insteon/ISY is limited although I am a technical guy in general so more than happy to dive into any details/configs/logs as needed. Looking for any suggestions that may be able to help me get the scenes up and running again. I should note that scenes work just fine when using the KeypadLinc button that is programmed to a scene - so this feels like a PLM/ISY contained issue.

thomas Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Yes. And the new PLM is working, less scenes. Seems to be functioning the same as the old (now dead) PLM before it died. The old one worked for years though. I can try the PLM replacement procedures again if you think it would help? I have tried creating a brand new scene (thinking there may be some type of corruption with old scenes) and that has not worked either.
LeeG Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 With the new Scene not working I suspect the Wiki sequence was not followed. If the ISY is not powered after the new PLM is connected the ISY is not aware of the new PLM information. Could do a Show Device Links Table for the devices in the new Scene to see if the new PLM information is being used.

LeeG Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Neither device has a link record with the new PLM. The first device would have the new PLM address if the ISY was aware of the new PLM. Also the second device has several bad links. 0 : 0FF8 : A2 00 00.00.00 FE 1C 01 1 : 0FF0 : E2 01 00.00.00 FF 1F 01 2 : 0FE8 : A2 11 00.00.00 FF 1F 01 Was a Delete Modem (PLM) command issued during the change of PLM? The 00.00.00 is where the PLM address should be. I suggest repeating the Wiki steps for replacing a PLM. If a Delete Modem (PLM) was issued restore an ISY backup that is current followed by a Restore Modem (PLM). Never issue a Delete Modem (PLM) in your situation. This command is done when removing the PLM from the Insteon installion.
thomas Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 I did not do a delete modem for sure. Should I reset PLM back to factory default and then do a restore following the wiki procedures? It's possible I missed a step or didn't wait long enough for the power sequence of PLM then ISY.

bfish Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Very frustrated here... I have the EXACT same issue as Thomas and with a very similar network. BUT... I just factory reset the PLM as he did and still scenes not working. Yes, I followed the PLM replacement process explicitly and NO I did not delete the modem. What's my next step? Thanks!
bfish Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 OK, in an act of desperation I restored an ISY back from a few days prior to my failing PLM, did a factory reset on the PLM, then followed the update procedure verbatim. Now scenes work. Sounds to my like the new PLM procedure needs to be updated with a first step of "perform a factory reset on PLM" then follow existing steps.
