More Insteon/Smarthome BS!! (Keypadlinc Buttons - 2401BT50)

Featured Replies

Not sure if everyone was aware of this already, but Insteon/Smarthome are using a NEW supplier for their Keypadlinc 50 Button keypad set (2401BT50).  Normally you wouldn't think that to be a problem since a NORMAL company would actually receive the product, test it out and then release it to their customers after ensuring it met certain standards.   Apparently this was NOT the case with Insteon/Smarthome!

To start off I have a few Keypadlinc's spread throughout my home and since I finally ditched both of those piece of garbage hubs and got an ISY994i, I finally have started to fully utilize my system.  That being said I also wanted to ensure everything was labeled properly so I ordered a 50 button keypad set.  Upon receiving the buttons I started installing them and noticed that the keys were pretty dull (light wise) when toggled. For a minute I thought it was a problem with the light coming from the Keypadlinc but I realized that the buttons themselves are not as transparent as the original ones and appear quite dull when lit.

This is a problem for a few reasons, but most notably:

#1 - The new buttons do NOT match the old buttons at all (this includes the larger main On/Off buttons) when it comes to toggled brightness as well as all smaller buttons.

#2 - It is EXTREMELY hard to see the status of a button when there is any kind of light source.  I have one of my Keypad's in the entry way and when my entry light is on I can barely tell that status of other buttons/rooms.

I have in fact reported this to Insteon/Smarthome and they are "aware of the issue" but aren't doing anything about it.  The genius team sent me a new 50 button set thinking I got a bad one and then realized later that this problem exists and that I should basically go pound sand... nice response Smarthome!

Why Insteon/Smarthome was not smarter when sourcing these things is beyond me??? If anyone knows of a source with OLD buttons please PM me.

The images show the same abnormality I responded to on the other forum.

All buttons purchased from 2401BT50 kit's at different times.  One from a 50 piece kit a year ago and one from a 50 piece kit a month ago.  As you can see even the OFFICE buttons are different.

Once again, I responded on the other forum.

The more dim button is from the kit purchased this month.  The other office button which is bright lit and matches all of the other buttons is from a year ago.
