diggler Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Gonna be building custom garage door. Looking to use a li ear actuator to open and close. Is itpossible to use my current insteon garage setup or would i have to use a different control module for actuator?
Xathros Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Would need a lot more info on the actuator before answering that question. -Xathros
diggler Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 Looking at this one or one similar. http://m.ebay.com/itm/391040048482?cmd=VIDESC&gxo=true

Xathros Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Neither of those are directly usable with your existing garage kit. The first one has a controller but it does not appear that it has any inputs aside from the remote and it has separate momentary direction control buttons. A regular GDO would move the door from limit to limit with a single input and monitor it's safety switches and halt and/or reverse direction if any safety sensors were triggered. These do not have any safety or limit controls unless you plan on building all of that yourself. While I am no expert on the subject, I highly suspect your local building codes would not permit this. Not sure how your doors open and close that a 6" or 12" stroke would be sufficient. If pinned to a door near the hinge, these may not be strong enough to push or pull against the leverage even a light breeze will have when looking at the square footage of an entire door. -Xathros
diggler Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 The doors are gonna be 2 48" wide doors that swing like a reg door would on hinges. Making carriage doors. Is there a module that insteon makes that would work?
diggler Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 scrapping this idea. found this while searching. need the ceiling clearence because of a lift being installed in garage. If I use 2 openers one for each door keeping pivot points on door in same location but move the opener inline with door jamb, would it work? thx drew
Xathros Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Dependin on the current draw of the actuators you could make it work with 2 IOLincs or my preference wiuld be one DIN Relay plus the ISYNetwork module. One relay used to control direction the other to apply/remove power. Do the actuators have built in limit switches? -Xathros Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
diggler Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Reading up on the actuators, i would get the ones with limit switches. I dont mind using 2 iolincs, one for each actuator if it makes the insyall easier. What would the network module do for me?
stusviews Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 There are gate openers specifically designed for doors such as yours. The actuators work in unison, so only one I/O Linc is needed. I use GTO Access. Just search for gate, not door operators.

Found this gate opener on ebay, says gto. would this work http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mighty-Mule-FM200-Automatic-Gate-Opener-Single-Gates-Up-to-12-Feet-or-300-Pounds/301552119282?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D28772%26meid%3Dcd42774ea8dd4eee8806a3a63f002a8d%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D261380075432&rt=nc then I found this http://www.smarthome.com/skylink-dm-100-swing-door-opener-with-magnetic-lock.html only thing is I might exceed the weight limit. 1 wood door might weigh around 150 lbs
stusviews Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 A dual arm gate operator is what you need. Both door swing open or closed concurrently. A solution is a GTO 2002 XLS Dual Arm Gate Opener. The GTO control panel allows using a push button to control the operators. I ran a pair of wires to an I/O Linc. GTO is the manufacturer of Mighty Mule, so there's probably a dual-arm Mighty Mule gate operator.
