Sorry, using the names identified earlier in the posting. I suppose I use the word wire where I should use cable. 

Oops, my error, I didn't review.

 

As oberkc indicated, one of cable 2 or 3 is line. the other is load. It is imperative that you determine which is which. Use a voltmeter. Even the least expensive meter is OK. A voltage indicator is not adequate. Make the corrections in the fixture box and follow oberkc's instructions.
