iMeter Solo and HVAC

Does the ISY support the stand alone Energy Display for the iMeter Solo?

I would like to be able to monitor the current draw on my HVAC system using the iMeter Solo with the free standing display to determine when the filter needs changing. The theory I'm using is that when the filter is dirty the variable speed furnace motor will work harder to maintain the air flow thus drawing more current.

Techman,

The ISY will show the Enery Display when you try to add it but it is not supported. You can however add the iMeter Solo and monitor the current draw. One note: the iMeter Solo does not handle inrush very well. I had one on an evaporative cooler and at high speed when you turn the load on it will blow out the IMeter Solo. My evaporative cooler has a 1/2 horse motor.

I would recommend you look at the RCS PMC40-ZW or PMC30-ZW, not sure if you have Z-Wave installed but it is worth it to add if you don't. Z-Wave is superior for energy monitoring and this relay with energy monitoring does the job really well.  It can be used with 120v loads or 240v loads and gives you accurate readout of energy usage with 1% accuracy. If you're using it to trigger the load on the condenser, make sure you use the PMC40 as it is rated for 40Amps.

Mike and Steve, thanks for the feedback. I believe my motor is 1/2 hp, it's an ECM motor so I'm not sure if it will be easier on the Imeter Solo than a regular 1/2 AC motor. The HVAC system draws 15 amps max.

I'll take a look the Z-wave options. I don't currently have the Z-wave module installed but it's certainly an option.
