PhanTomiZ Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Now that I've got 4 KPLs installed, my node list is getting disorganized and I have 3 more KPLs yet to install... What is the best way to organize the node list with labeling for devices, scenes and programs? Please post examples of how you have setup your node list. Thanks PhanTomiZ
LeeG Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Do not use the same name for a Device and Scene. Creates issues with some Program commands such as Adjust Scene. Programs are displayed separately so those names are not in conflict with Devices/Scenes. Try using Group Devices (right click on KPL button) on one of the KPLs to cluster the KPL button names together. That tends to help with KPLs and other devices that have multiple nodes. Integer and State Variables should be IDed with i_xxx and s_yyy to make the variable type self describing. I'm sure others have their own style.

PhanTomiZ Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Ok, How about a couple of examples of how you label your KPL Scene buttons? Do you use both location of the KPL button and name of controlled scene?
LeeG Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I do not include the Scene name in the button node name. That information is available in the Admin Console display of the button. Use a node name that provides the information that is important to you.
PhanTomiZ Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 At the moment, I have the device address in the name along with a few abbreviations. Not enough space to have it all. Still somewhat confusing, but it helps decipher the event viewer as it only reports addresses. I want to move on to your naming scheme soon... Thanks
LeeG Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Click on My Lighting/ISY to display a list on all nodes with the various information. Click on Address heading to sort by Insteon address. That should help relate Insteon address to node name without taking up space in the node name itself.
PhanTomiZ Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 Yep, that does help a little. Once I get rid of the address in my labels, I can cross reference the devices there to get the address. Thanks
