Using Cars Homelink button to trigger ISY?

Featured Replies

Posted

Both of our cars have the homelink buttons that are used to operate garage doors.

I want to also program them to turn on lights.

Something like this?

And an Insteon or Zwave iolink would work?

Then I would have an on/off signal I can use to trigger other events?

Both Chamberlain ans Liftmaster have (line voltage) switches that respond to Homelink buttons. The switch can be used to trigger a Micro Module. Another alternative is to link the Homelink button to an X10 switch.

I have nothing X10.

I do have Zwave and Insteon.

So I think an iolink that I already own should be better?

What about the trigger I shown?

I have nothing X10.

Do you not have an ISY?  If so, then you have something with X-10.  Triggering an ISY program from an X-10 command from a transceiver would be an option to consider.

You would need an X10  TM751 or RR501 X10 transceiver to receive the X10 RF command from the Homelink Buttons and send a X10 power line signal the ISY994i could process.

I looked at the Skylink 318TR web page and instruction manual.

It looks like it has a dry contact output. Normally connected across the original push button for the garage door.

A dry contact output should trigger an  I/OLinc's Sensor Input. If you decide to use it and not the Homelink buttons built into the car.

Since it simulates a manual button push. It will close the Sensor Input to send an On command then shortly send an Off when it opens. Your program or scene would have to handle the commands.

You can also link a universal garage door opener receiver such as one from Genie, Chamberlain, GTO or Liftmaster to a Homelink button and connect the receiver to the sense terminals of an I/O Linc.
