ScottAvery Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 The Aeotec Siren (http://amzn.com/B00PKKM2HO) has been recommended often as the best repeater. I have 2 of the previous generation dedicated repeaters and 2 dedicated smart switch plug ins (gen 1) to try to mesh my ZWave network to support just two entry locks. Not always successful. I was wondering if anyone who has tested the sirens has also looked at these other Gen5 Plug-ins: http://amzn.com/B00XD80DMQ (Not convinced this one is current) http://amzn.com/B00VQISOCG I might try one siren, but I wouldn't want more than one. The Smart Switch 6 looks nice. Thoughts?
Scyto Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 i have terrible problems with locks through repeaters with the ISY (specifically schlage BE468) i gave up and used vera hub as primary as it exposes more features of the lock and better user code management - i still have ISY as secondary. Neither the Aeotec Siren, Repeater or smart strips in the rooms between the back door and the ISY helped (this was what i could get in feb). I will get two of these to try and let you know.
stusviews Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Z-Wave locks can be difficult to add to the ISY for security reasons. It's best to bring the lock close to the ISY when doing the initial installation. After that the lock can be brought to the installation location. Even at that, I found that the Aeotec Siren was needed for consistent results. Scyto: I await your findings.
blueman2 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 ...used vera hub as primary as it exposes more features of the lock and better user code management... Can you elaborate? What other features can you access, and what is better about the user code management? I am curious of any of these can be done through parameters (?)
Scyto Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Can you elaborate? What other features can you access, and what is better about the user code management? I am curious of any of these can be done through parameters (?) Ability to batch program multiple locks. Ability to remember what codes it programmed vs the ones i set via the keypad. And actually the ISY is better at getting to the options on the lock - i forgot that, this why i have vera and ISY as primary/secondary relationship - best of both worlds Remember because of whatever compatibility issue i have lock programming fails from the ISY (and yes i factory resetted the locks during my tests) so ding pincode stuff from ISY is just not an option for me. see screenshots.

Even when i had just the aeotec siren and repeater in the house i couldn't get that lock to what was needed, even though both the lock and the ISY both showed the repeaters as neighbours. I tried with 2 locks of same make and model - same issues. When i put on desk near the ISY everything was fine. It is a failure in the repeating, i don't believe it to be a general comms failure. (well not one caused by interference or distance)
Scyto Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Getting the new smartswitch6 didn't change the behavior of my locks, but they seem to work fine and a nice bit of kit!
