I recently replaced an Insteon  6-button Keypad with one a just purchased and when I tried to add it to my system, I got the following message:

" The Following Devices could not be added: 3D 84 9C Unsupported Device :0.66 Device is not currently supported.

I tried to add it twice and got the same message.

Can any one explain?

Thanks

ISY99i or ISY994i?

What revision firmware are you running?

Newer revision modules are added to later firmware versions so older versions may not recognize the module. If it has a new type ID.

What's the hardware version and date code on the device you're trying add.

Try doing a factory reset on the device before you add it.

Use the manual drop down option and see if that works.

Also make sure it's a D and not a 0 and 8 not a B.

The device cat/subcat "0.66" is not the correct value for a 6 button KPL Dimmer.  It should be 1.66 [01.42].  Not sure if the initial post value was incorrectly typed or the device is providing the wrong value.

The following is from a 8 button dimmer 01.41  A 6 button should be 01.42  1.66 ; not 0.66

-  Cannot determine device link table address

on the box it came in calls it a Dimmer Keypad 6 Button model: 2334-232

Information on switch is

2334-232

Rev.7.7

4315

ISY info attached

I also did a factory reset before tying to add it again.

The hardware and firmware version of the Device is definitely compatible with the ISY firmware version you're running

As LeeG suggested, verify that the version of the admin console is also 4.3.26

I no longer have the screen shot of that error on my clip board.

let me see if I can duplicate the error.

OK, Just did a factory reset on the Keypad, try to add it to the system automatically, held in the set button until it beeped twice and when I got back to my PC, the ISY did not respond to the addition, like I never held the set button in.

I assume you confirmed in fact the MAC address is correct? The D is not a O/0? The 8 isn't a B? Also you may want to try upgrading to 4.4.1 following the upgrade instructions and try again.

It might be on a slight chance that models signature might be in there . . .

You used the Auto Discover Method or Start Linking method?

Start linking uses the hold set button on the new module. Auto Discover uses the Insteon six digit ID.

Teken,

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by checking the mac address.

"The device cat/subcat "0.66" is not the correct value for a 6 button KPL Dimmer.  It should be 1.66 [01.42]."

If what you are refering to is your quote above, I am 99.9% sure it was 0.66, not 1.66 but I no longer have the screen shot of that error.

I am positive on the letters vs numbers. see the attached.

Just as an idea... Start over, from the very beginning.

Delete this switch (KPL) from the ISY, and then cut power to the ISY.

Cut power to the switch for about 5 min.

Go to switch and with "fresh eyes" write down only the address.

Return power to ISY and let it reboot.

Then turn breaker back on for switch.

Then don't touch anything on the switch, period.

Go to the admin console, and just add the switch using the address you most recently wrote down. Let it autodiscover the device type and click the option for deleting all links.

I know this seems overly simple, but I've seen it work many times. It's the human equivalent of "reboot your machine", with some rebooting of Insteon/ISY hardware thrown in for good measure.
