Troubleshooting Device

Recommended Posts

I recently received an ISY, and installed per instructions. I cannot get the device to appear in My Network Places and need some help with where to start troubleshooting.

I have another network file server attached to the same router that is visible on my network, so I know that I have something setup. The quick start guide has very little information on how to troubleshoot.

Has anyone run into the same situation? Where can I start?

from what i have read, dhcp (or the dynamic assignment thing) in your router must be enabled, i think the upnp (plug and play) might need to be enabled, the 'show icons' thing must be selected (under my network in xp)

might be a port assignment conflict in your router (or port forewarding) - not sure if that could be a problem but would not hurt to check it - i'd check the firewall on the pc also - it may give you a message that indicates a problem

plan b is to see if someone that knows this stuff answers :?

Thanks for the link. I didn't realize that the configuration was this complicated. It identified multiple things that needed to be reconfigured. I now have everything supposedly working except a couple router based items that I am struggling to troubleshoot. My router says UPNP is enabled. DHCP is enabled. My router even recognizes the ISY as being attached (ISY26-HOME-AUTO). Hopefully when the Universal Devices guys are back 'in the office', I can get some more help.

Hello All,

Apologies for not being available today. For the initial configuration you must have DHCP enabled; you can always revert back to static IP after the initial configuration.

The whole point of UPnP is to make configuration simpler and all it would take is to have UPnP enabled on your computer (i.e show icons for network UPnP devices). If that does not work, in all likelihood, you have a defective unit which we'll gladly replace.

Also, if you don't want to use UPnP, you do not have to! You could always go to http://www.universal-devices.com/MyInsteonISY . This URL does not require UPnP to be running. This said, however, if you have a firewall running, the firewall might ask you if you want to let Java to act as a server for port 1900 UDP (for local network).

As far as the router, you do not have to enable UPnP on the router if you don't wish to let ISY auto configure it for remote access.

In any case, if you have any issues with configurations, please do let us know as we would like to make it as easy as possible.

With regards,
