Voice Remote for Amazon Echo

In stock on May 1, 2016

$29.95 is a good price though.  Seems I saw the remote listed before it ran out of stock for around $50?  Odd though because the Voice remote that comes with Fire TV works with Echo and the bundle is only $49.99

Actually, $30 was the original price, but when they were no longer available some sellers asked for $50 or even more.

Shame it's only possible to link one remote to Echo.  These are good in the bedroom where light or lack of can be a problem fumbling with buttons.  I was in on the $99 introductory offer and received a remote with the purchase but didn't really make good use of it until the ISY Skill / Connected Home published.

Can you speak to / control the Echo from the phone app?

Not yet, but I saw a link to a tweet on Reddit the other day that strongly implied this was coming.

If they enable this feature, then a remote like this seems like kind of a waste of money. Once you can control the Echo from your phone, it will essentially give you full home voice control with a single Echo. The only reason I can see Amazon not wanting this is that it would potentially cannibalize sales of the new Echo Dot.

I still want a Dot in every room or an Echo remote.

With a phone, you're going to have to whip it out, unlock it, open the app and then do whatever.

And what about people visiting your house? Or your kids that don't have iPhones yet?

I think I'll end up putting a Dot in almost every room, though I wish it were a little cheaper. The remote would be perfect if you didn't have to hit a button first.

Don't get me wrong, I think a Dot in every room would be awesome. I was just saying that this remote doesn't seem like it would be quite as useful if/when they allow voice control via the app.

When I'm at my computer, the Echo is behind me. The microphone allows me to avoid spinning around to issue commands. One of the Dots I ordered should alleviate that need B)

If they released Alexa for Fire devices (tablet/phone) they might get new customers for those gadgets.  The Fire phone was underwhelming on release, perhaps a second generation will compete.
