Fireplace Control Workaround?

Featured Replies

I currently have a paddle switch in place for my fake log fireplace. It completes the circuit from the thermocouple to the gas valve.

Obviously we're talking about millivolts which are generated from the pilot light so I believe the easiest way to integrate this switch into the Insteon systme is to use a relay coupled to a SWR. Does Smarthome sell this relay or a SWR that completes a circuit independent of the load? Should I find something at Radio Shack and just wire it up in the box?

Yes they do. A couple different versions. There is a cheaper 1 input 1 output version coming out soon (that means whenever it gets here in Smarthome time). Other than that, here's one currently available:

Now, you could build your own as you said with a Switchlink Relay (I wouldnt use a dimmer...just because) and your own little relay that you get from radio shack.

Thanks Ulrick. I think at that price I'll just use that SWR I had lying around and buy a relay. Thanks for the help!

I agree with you. As far as home control stuff goes, Insteon is a cheap solution....but when you get right down to it 50 bucks is still 50 bucks!

I had an idea to make my own IOLinc and someday I will give it a try. A few relays, some solder and a keypadlinc should do the trick! My problem is the way I solder it will likely be 3 or 4 keypadlincs, several bandaids and a roll of solder before I get done screwing them up! Maybe I'll just buy the EZIO once they are stable with ISY!
